This is interesting listening back to it again. I feel it is still a bit quiet. I feel there are times you could use the headroom a bit more so that some parts almost assault the ears. This would bring a lot more colour in to it. At present it is maybe a bit flat. Bringing some quieter parts up would bring more clarity to it. Just my observations from recent listening to more ambient pieces. I do like the way you have used the stereo spectrum. That works well. This is as valid a form of 'music' as any other. Without more avant garde music things might not move on at all. Think back to early Pink Floyd which had a strong ambient flavour to it, not that it was called ambient at the time. Look how they developed though.

Yeh, great musician and he even inspired Janek Gwizdala to raise the playing action on his bass.

Nice playing all of you. Only thing I would change is bringing the rhythm guitar a little more towards the centre of the stereo spectrum. But that's just nit picking cause that is all good stuff. Keep up the good work. You clearly enjoy it.

GarageBand is probably a good place to start. If you get on OK with that, as you have, then you can always purchase a more comprehensive DAW later. There are a few available for iPad these days.

I can only say what I use. I record into Cubasis on the iPad with very good results. Cost me £35 in the app store. Endless tracks you can record onto. Onboard effects as well drums and basic synths and samples. I put everything through an Alesis iodock as an interface but others are available such as the mentioned Aogee. You then have loads of effects apps you can use in conjunction with Audiobus.
That's more like it! I usually like singlecuts, but the BTB looked ugly to me. This is nice.
What this man said. That is very pretty indeed. Jus a pity Ibanez necks are a couple of mm too thin for me. It is tempting though.

Can't believe Chris would take this long to build a bass. He does his own spraying too. Perplexed.

I have not used in a live context so cannot comment on that. The tracking is very good indeed. You might have to check your technique a bit but not by much. If you are using the models in it then you will have no trouble with tracking at all. I put the hex pickup on a cheapish Cort bass and it was very easy to install, as easy as the guitar. You just have to find a place on the bass to put the 'pod'. There is always the opotion of the new SY-300. I have no experience of that but does not use a hex pickup, just plug straight in.

The tow bar is the clincher for me.

I have the Boss RC-50 and I thought that needed a degree to operate. The RC-300 looks a lot more straightforward. Simple start/stop and record switches for the three tracks and an all stop switch. I do like the look of the Boomerang 3. Seems to be lots you can do with it and doesn't seem too complicated. Plus there is the opotion of the add on section. I'd be interested in others' opinions too.

You could try looking at the series of videos Fodera put up recently about setting up a bass. This one is for intonation which will definitely need to be checked. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jvm_DT0GHIM

I don't think it's a genuine Gibson though.

Are they still so clever and classless and free?

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the guys in Genesis and Pink Floyd started their working lives down the pit. -
Scott Devine (obviously), Janek Gwizdala, Tony Gray, amongst others

When you get to Statii.com have a look at the top of the page and click on 'Catalogues & more'. Lots of info on all Status basses there.

Scott Devine has some really good advice regarding GAS
The main message I took away from the clip..which some people seem not to have received.. is that a high end bass, or one especially made for you, is not going to make you a better player.
Very good point. However, I'll put it from another perspective. My Mother used to have a colleague who's son has progressed through the Orchestral music profession very successfully. In the 80s when he was a young man he entered a music competition playing his oboe. Without being arrogant he knew from his performance that he was good enough to win. He came second and was gutted. The judges took him aside afterwards and told him they were making a special award to him of £2000 towards the cost of a new instrument. They knew he was of a higher class than the other contestants but felt the quality of his instrument let him down. -

If a P bass and that sound were all that was available that would cure my gas straight away. Not to my taste. I know I am in a minority there though. I do see his point. Much as I would not be without my Status and Overwater basses I also have a Cort bass that cost a tenth of the expensive ones and it is great to play. Wonderful neck. Fretwork needed a lot of attention though. -
Thanks GF. The second run through used the ME-70 with slow gear, harmonist (1st & 3rd) and Chorus & delay. The Micro POG came in for the third run through
-
There's also Overwater. They build jazz basses in 4 or 5 different sizes.

It does sound like a plausible explanation. It's only two out of 13 videos. But if there are people out there trying to fleece money from large companies it fits there will be some taking advantage of unknowns on YouTube.

I uploaded a video to YouTube a few days ago. I found today it had been "challenged" with a copyright infringement complaint. Strange as Silent Night was written nearly 200 years ago so well in the public domain. I arranged, played and recorded the whole thing so not using anyone else's backing music. The complaint informed me I didn't have to do anything but the "complainant" could put ads in front of it. I lodged a challenge to this and within seconds the following appeared in my email inbox: "Good news! Your dispute wasn't reviewed within 30 days, so the copyright claim on your YouTube video has now been released". This is the second time this has happened with public domain material in videos I have uploaded. Is this YouTube finding any excuse to put ads in front of videos? Discuss.

Pink Floyd's Animals album. That's it. The sound of the bass just caught my ear and I bought one that summer. Still my favourite Floyd album

Confusing! Body shape and head say ESP LTD but pickups, controls and bridge pieces are not like any ESP I have seen, and I own two of them. What does it say on the head? I wonder if it has had a new face put on it?

Interesting comparison. I have the micro pog and love it. It's the more natural tone of the sub and +1 that I like. I can see why you prefer the more synth like tone of the others though.
