1. I would take the nut down to a point that the open string just holds a piece of paper under it. Status fretless basses have the strings coming out of the nut right onto the end of the finger board. Don't forget to look at the rest of the setup as well. That's just as important.
2. Another fine addition to the family.
3. A fretless bass in an instrument shop? Go for it. You might never see a fretless in a shop again. Rare things off the shelf.
4. You can put lots of notes in if you want but that doesn't mean they will be right for the song. You can use a walking bass which will work on some tunes but I'd say KISS (keep it simple stupid). Listen to Johnny Cash. The lines may be simple but they are what is right for that music.
5. I think the guy's name was Ty Garner. Bass player arrived 40 minutes late, the band were woefully under rehearsed and there were only 10-15 of us there in a theatre of 360 seats. Only one of two concerts I have walked out on at half time. Shame as he was billed as a great artist.
6. zawinal, you want inspiration... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w0JZpaHDz4
7.
... and there I was waiting to mention the ukulele
There's always the tea chest bass as well. Just the one string.
8.
maybe its me... I'm just not feeling very innovative right now.... right more pedals....
Ah. That's a different matter. Maybe it's just where you are at the moment. Couple of years ago I became fed up with playing in bands and sessions. That wasn't inspiring me so I packed in the folk session and jazz band I had been involved with for many years each. Two years on and I have found a new direction and very happy with where I am now. Plenty of inspiration. Perhaps just keep looking and when the time is right something will come your way.
9. Alright, alright! Point taken.
10. If we all stuck to playing bass lines on a four string then nothing would happen. Mind you, having said that, Michael Mannring does do quite a lot with a four string. Open your horizons. And as JapanAxe said.
11.
This is great stuff! Is there some sort of "shimmer" or octave-up in this? It sounds like some of the longer revrebs/sustains have this...?
No it doesn't have a shimmer. If you want that you might be better to go for something like the Neunaber Wet reverb. Plenty of YouTube vids on that. Or even the Strymon Bigsky, if you can afford it.
12. I use TC Hall of Fame. Lovely warm tone and goes on for ages if you want it to. Video below has it at various lengths on the mod model. http://youtu.be/TJ7_V4V6eeo
13. At the risk of being a time waster, it might help the sale if you posted the videos here (edit-beat me to it). I'd be interested to see them anyway even if I am not in the market for a new bass. I adore the neck profile though.
14. Thank you muchly, Sir.
15. Without wanting to high jack the thread (but I will briefly), can anyone tell me if the BIAS effects are audiobus compatible?
16. This might be worth looking at. Not mine but still worth looking at http://basschat.co.uk/topic/271975-tc-electronic-g-major-2-effects-rack-oh-yes-pics-added/
17.
Never liked Single Cuts. Never liked 6 String basses. I think I do now. That's incredible
I used to be the same but Alan makes some of the prettiest single cuts on the market. Just seems to get all the proportions right. This is one of the best he has done.
18. Hasn't that turned out well. Mr. Cringean excels again.
19. That takes a lot of courage to admit to problems like that. But what power you have in you, Pete, to do so. Keep up the good work and best of luck for the future.
20. Thanks ambient, good coming from a fellow ambient fan. I would, love to do more but it just depends on my fingers landing on the right places on the neck. I sent this to an elderly friend of mine. She tells me she wants it played at her funeral. You can imagine the emotions now attached to it. Gulp!
21.
(I'm still waiting for the drums to come in, though... )
Drums? Just so yesterday lunch time. Thanks for the comments.
22. This is my first attempt at something with a bit of ambient to it. I'd appreciate a bit of feedback on it, constructive of course. Is it worth it? Should I pursue it? I like the way it has turned out but as always beauty is in the eye (or ear) of the beholder. This recording lark is also an ongoing learning process and there is a lot to be said for a bit of compression. Forgive the poor sound quality towards the end. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ7_V4V6eeo
23. I take it you mean EHX360? RC-1 has 12 minutes of recording with no memory. EHX360 has max six minutes recording with 11 memory slots. RC-1 is stereo, EHX mono. For what you want might be best to go for the Boss.
24. What are you actually looking for? You have thrown out some very good basses there. What is it about ESPs you don't like. You certainly won't get a chunky Fender style neck with them. They are very good basses for the price though. Why not consider a passive and use an outboard preamp?
