  1. Why would anyone want a twelve step program with bass guitars? Cannot compute.
  2. And while you two get a room I'll just reach in and grab the bass.
  3. Utterly, utterly splendid! Lovely bits of wood that Alan has used there. Third picture down just makes me want to reach in and grab it.
  4. loved that. The drummer is in the wrong band though. He should have been in this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DVbt5W-DNc Well it hasn't been posted for a while, has it.
  5. Just had Nick's EHX Pulsar delivered. Another easy transaction. Two days (actually 39 hours to be exact) to pay/dispatch/deliver. Job done. Great pedal. Deal with confidence. Thanks Nick.
  6. Have a look at this. Best viewed on mobile device and move the device around. Isn't technology wonderful. http://youtu.be/4Or6RDxzUt4
  7. If your teacher is at all negative I'm not sure they will be much good as a teacher. The best way to teach is accentuate the positive. At least I think that's what some said. Enjoy the new life.
  8. This sound cloud link might help. I had the same dilemma a few years ago while doing the rebuild of my SGC Nanyo. It only gives examples for the bridge pickup which is the critical tone for me. Status - 10mm from bridge ESP - 25mm from bridge Jazz - 55mm from bridge Status and ESP are humbuckers, Jazz is single coil https://soundcloud.com/bassbus/status-esp-jazz-back-pickups
  9. If you are considering a fiver ESP, bare in mind that string spacing is quite close. The nut on my fiver is only a couple of mm wider than my Strat.
  10. ESP LTD basses are some of the best value basses on the market. I liked them so much I bought two fretless Bs, 4 & 5 string. I really can't fault them for the price. They are not a match for custom basses but they will never be for their price. Necks are lovely. Good tone from them. My fretless four will be up for sale soon.
  11. Lot of good advice. One other important thing. Arrive at the venue with plenty of time to spare before the gig starts. That way you will be more relaxed and have your gear set up in plenty of time.
  12. Go to the guy in Belfast. I got one from him a few years ago. Arrived quickly with no hassle. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gotoh-201-Bass-Bridge-Black-Chrome-fits-Fender-bass-/351404460873?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item51d1568b49
  13. There seem to be loads on eBay if that's of any use.

More pics will come , eventually [/quote]
  15. Blimey! two bands I've enjoyed this year. That guy can fairly work an audience.

Have to admit I did like them a lot.
  17. Don't know if it helps but Status Graphite ship their new basses with UK Mail. They are worth a lot more than £1000.
  18. I have only used passive pups with J and U-Retros. These pre amps are so powerful on their own that I'm not sure of any advantage with active pups.
  19. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I did it for ten out of thirteen years in a band playing tunes from the 30s and 40s and I replaced a guy who played electric. Try telling Steve Swallow he's wrong. He's a monster talent on electric in jazz. Try using a semi-hollow with piezos in the bridge. Might temper some nae sayers.
  20. Come on people, let's not allow this to go the way of so many threads. Lots of good advice and that is what the OP asked for.
  21. Maybe Marcus Bell could chip in, he's one of the players.
  22. And don't forget they are good for metal too. Sorry, [duck]
  23. I'd say don't use slides too much. They are a bit naff to my ear. Listen to Gary Willis. He has some very good pointers on YouTube. Keep your touch quite light. That will let you get the most out of the instrument. Gives you greater dynamics as well.
