WOW! That bootifool. [drool]
2. There are different densities of Rosewood so the softer ones will mark more easily. Some have found little or no problems with rounds on Rosewood. Coatings can help but that might change the sound of the bass. Some have used superglue to coat the board. Other than that what has been said above. Flats, rounds and half rounds all have their plusses and minusses. Flats have a duller tone with lots of thump. Rounds the opposite. On a wooden board they have a sharp attack and a very bright clear decay to the tone. I don't think you can beat the tone of rounds with the decay part of the tone. However, I don't like that sharp attack they have. Halfwounds/rounds do it for me. They have about three quarters of the brightness of a round string to begin with but with a much softer attack to the tone. They can be a bit sticky to begin with but after a few days they become very slippery. More than a round. They keep a great tone for much longer than a round would, IME.
3. I use the 40-95 with a 30 C string. When i've used 100 Es before I can't really say I notice much difference from a 105. It's only .005 of an inch after all.
4. D'addario do a set of nickel half rounds. I have a set on my Overwater and they are lovely strings. Strings direct sell them. Status halfs are stainless steel. There have been a number of reports on here, including me, that have had experience of dud E strings. They replace them when asked but it shouldn't happen in the first place.
5. I've always wondered what was inside my head. Human evolution has moved on further though. It miniturised it all long before this ever appeared.
6. I'm trying to think of something clever to say in reply, Bilbo. But I can't other than; wise words.
7. Nice one. Wooden necked Status basses are some of the best value basses out there.
8. Fantastic basses!!! I've always felt that Scott Devine video didn't do the bass justice. They are so easy to play.
9.
I wonder if another certain make that daren`t be mentioned is copied so ruthlessly.
No, the body on a Rickenbaker is too thin and would not support more than one book. Ooops!
10. Will you ever want to post on a humble forum like this again? Have a great time.
11. Yeh, and I'm just listening to Horace Silver who died last month. Two greats of jazz even if they aren't everyone's cup of tea.
12. But it does have a genuine Levi's strap and new battery. That must account for nearly £1600.
13. It really depends what kind of tone you are after. Sparkly bright or dull and life less. There is no doubt you get what you pay for in life so it goes that a cheap bass might come with cheaper strings. There is more to it than just strings. If the bass is shop bought it might be worth your while taking it to a local luthier for a professional setup. He/she would probably recomend new strings anyway. Factory setups a usually a compromise so having a luthier set it up to your requirements will make a big difference.
14. I suppose it depends also on what you want to use it for. I like to play tunes on the bass and I don't like the sound of a low B. If you want to play chords then a C string opens up possibilities for clearer sounding chords. The lower you play chords on a four string the muddier they become.
15. The B string sounds quite good on the Fender.
16. Nut width 43mm. Used to have one, very nice neck.
17. Another recommendation for the neck from me. Never be put off by the idea of the asymmetric neck. When you first play one it feels odd for about 15 minutes. Then you suddenly realise you don't notice it. Very comfortable to play and as said very flexible.
18. As all of the above. I had a break from bass for seven years at one point. Came back to it 13 years ago and never regreted a minute. I'm also on a break from band playing at the moment, my heart just isn't into it right now, but still playing bass most days and learning lots about music theory. Don't look on it as a negative. Sometimes you need time out. You go away do other things that are more important at the time and if you are going to come back to bass you will. Only you can decide whether you have to sell your gear.
19. For those of you not subscribed to Scott Devine in any way here is an interview he has done with a man who apparently makes basses. http://youtu.be/7_VdyJ9OnwU
20. By saying guitarists must behave themselves, does that mean no Stairway to Heaven, Paranoid and Smoke on the Water? Or is that just those over 45?
21. Oh my goodness! I've just gone all wobbly.
22. I looked at the stagepas range for a band I used to be in. I was advised that they were not that great for band use. The power rating that is advertised is nowhere near what they put out. We eventually went with QTX individual powered speakers. They have their own amp in each speaker. They are rated at 150W and put out every bit of that. It turned out to be a good choice.
23. I had similar done last year on a wrecked Bass Collection bass. Top 6mm was planed off and new face glued on. You could have the same done and route out cavities before putting the new face on. No problem for any decent luthier.
