1. I went with a lined ebony board and E-C tuning. I've never really liked a low B string and can use a C string much more. Bit of a Janek Gwizdala fan and all that. I'm looking forward to the finish on the Redwood face as well. Of all the bits of wood Chris showed me that just stood out most. With spirits wiped over it the figuring really leapt out.
2. Lots of progress this week. Facing wood glued to the head. Trus rod and carbon rod channels routed. Beginning to look like a proper bass. And a shot of the Black Walnut that is most of the body. Martin is hoping to have all the woodworking finished by the end of the month. Coming on leaps and bounds.
3. Wooden necked Status basses are some of the best value basses on the used market. Looks good.
4. Check the neck. I tried the Cort version in a shop some time ago and the action was higher than the Tyne Bridge. They adjusted it which was better. Back in there some weeks later and the action was way up again. Might just have been one bad neck, as happens from time to time, but worth looking at. Nice little basses whatever.
5. I'm a bit late to this one. Like the specs on the bass. The therapist in me looks at the facing wood and wants to ask the question; "what picture do you see in that"?
6. If it is passive it might be the SB301.
7. Wow! Martin ain't hanging around on this then. The top is going to look fantastic with the finish on it. How's your ramp RK?
8. Face book-matched and body and neck glued up.
9. For those who might just be interested. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/78081-how-about-a-spector-thread/page__view__findpost__p__1216389
10. £40 might seem expensive but you won't regret buying it in the long run. I bought an 'expensive' leather strap in the 80s and it is still in good working order to this day.
11. Ah yes, I remember watching that one. Still enjoying it? Probably a silly question.
12. Are you buying one as well RK? Great bunch of guys and so easy to talk to. Spoilt for choice when it comes to facing woods.
13. Once upon a time there was a little boy. One day he went to a big city for the day. When he got there he found there was a big toy factory. When he went in he met a very nice man called Chris. Chris said he would love to make a new toy for the little boy. So Chris took the little boy to his special cupboard and showed the little boy his wood stock. The little boy chose a piece with lots of wavey bits in it and a lovely red colour. The rest Black walnut body Figured red wood facing maple neck 16.5mm string spacing Lined fretless ebony fingerboard 33" scale pickups in SDS position Satin finish
14. There's only one guy to go to. Chris McIntyre has his workshop right beside Hibs football stadium. Brilliant work and honest. Nationally renouned too. http://www.mcintyreguitars.com
15. This makes it a bit clearer from the man himself http://youtu.be/MS02YaLw1uM
16. I couldn't give the exact gauge it would have come with originally but in my experience most basses come with 45s (105-45). You can put any gauge you want on a bass. You might have to alter the setup with some lighter gauge strings, or heavier for that matter. I have 95-35 on my Hohner B2a at the moment and I did have to do a setup on it for those. It is essentially the same bass as the Jack but without the body.
17.
I have pictures of the wood I choose. I am sure no one wants to see though
I would be very, very unhappy if you showed your wood. As unhappy as i am with my Finn that i haven't stopped playing since it arrived last week. Know what I mean, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no mowah.
18. Nice job. I've just started using one of these on an ACG and getting to grips with it quite quickly. Some good tones from it.
19. I should be adding a Scott Devine model to these pages sometime in May/June. Fretless ebony fingerboard and figured redwood face.
20. I bought a used iPad on ebay and it has been great. Fraction of the original price too. Lots of add-ons available too. I'm going to look at the Alesis iDock II when it's available. It has all the ins and outs you need and you just slide the iPad into it and it is connected. Software is affordable too.
21.
But, speak to the man, not the customer Peter
The customer will only tell you how brilliant the basses are. I just emailed Alan today and he replied within 2 hours.
22. You won't go wrong with one of these. Another fan here.
23. I just bought Adam's beautiful ACG Finn single cut. Transaction sorted within an hour and the bass was shipped out quickly. Very well packed and no problems whatsoever. Many thanks Adam.
