1. Sounds like you need to have a look at your mids. The neck pickup is collecting a tone that has far fewer mids than the bridge pickup will produce. Try boosting them on the amp first. If that doesn't work try any EQ pedal with mid controls, maybe with a sweepable mid frequency. You could look at the nifty little EWS BMC (bass mid control). Very simple tiny pedal with sweepable mid frequency and boost/cut control.
2. If you're in Glasgow as your location states you could get in contact with Chris McIntyre in Edinburgh. He is excelent. He's done quite a bit of work on some of my basses and it is done to a high degree of prefection. Chris can do custom builds to any shape, just depends if you can afford the price. http://www.mcintyreguitars.com

4. Didn't seem to get my PM either.
5. I left the jazz band i've been involved with for 13 years just before christmas. Much the same reasons as you left the Tuesday Club Lozz. The day I made the decision I simply asked myself one question; "what's stopping me from telling them I'm leaving"? There was nothing that came to mind so the phone calls were made. No regrets on my part for all the reasons that have been stated.
6. On the E line of the staff with the flat sign beside it.
7. I'd love to hear what the Uberhorn sounds like.
8. This might help. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxGz6IZ9BFI
9. 40 grit = very course. 1000 grit = very fine You can buy sheets of different grades of grit on ebay. Have a search on youtube as well. there's lots of videos showing you how to do the job.

Cort GB4

I'm another Cort fan. I recently bought an Action V DLX. A supper bass even though it hasn't seen an ounce of quilt maple it looks like.
11. If you want to go new, have a look at ESP LTD or Cort. Really good quality for the price
12. Wooden necked Status basses seem to fetch anywhere from £350-500 depending on condition and who is willing to buy them. My Electro 2 cost me £461 on ebay in A1 condition. Might give you an idea. Hope that helps.
13. It's all just a phallusy.
14.
We have a gear porn forum for this very thing
...and the fretless porn thread, which is even better because the basses are completely naked.
15.
+1. I suspect the lady who responded on your blog is defensive about everything. I'd simply pity her husband/partner/significant other.
You asume she has a husband/partner/significant other. Who would live with that attitude?
16. Just a thought, why not take it to a luthier who might be able to remove the damaged wood with a router. An extra area around the damaged area could be routed and a new piece of wood stuck in flush with the face. Whether or not that is refinished is up to you. I'm sure a competent luthier could do that. Cost might be off putting though.
17. Get a sponge and wedge it between the legs of the bridge. Then stick a microphone in that. If there is a PA at the venue they might have a spare mic. Put that through your bass amp. Probably the cheapest way.
18. Brings to mind my self imposed rule of "if you can't say anything positive then don't say it".
19. Why not upload to something like Soundcloud and then post the link on here.
20. Somebody once said to me "there's a lot more freedom in the sound of a fretless". Your not constrained by the frets. The note can move either way a little before it sounds out of tune. You can get that lovely vibrato as well. Somehow vibrato on a fretted never sounds quite as good. IMHO of course.
21. Mwahahaha...the fretless god has you in his grasp. There is no escape. Corts are actually really good basses for the money. I have been exclusively fretless for years now until a couple of weeks ago when I bought a Cort Action V fretted. Not giving up fretless of course but it's the first fretted bass I have really enjoyed playing for years. If you like flats on your fretless why not try a set of halfwounds on it. They really bring out a lot of tone in a fretless.
22. CH Guitars sell lots of bits on eBay. Crimson Guitars sell some tools too. Guitarwoodsupplies are based in Portugal and sell through eBay.
23. Forgot to add that there are variations between the same kind of string too. Flats generally have quite a high tension due to there being more metal in them. But, then there are Thomastik Jazz Flats which are quite low tension. then there's all the different gauges. Confused? You will be.
24. Roundwound = lots of top end and zing (when new) and a rougher feel Half/preasure/ground wound = the feel of a flat with some of the tone of a roundwound Flatwound = not a lot of top end to the tone and no zing and a smooth feel Whenever this question is asked the same answer always comes out. It is down to personal taste. Don't let anyone tell you that you should use this string or that string. It has to be what you want. What kind of tone do you like on records? What kind of music do you want to play? What kind of feel do you want in a string? All things to consider. Really if you don't know you have to experiment. That means buying different sets and playing them until you find what your ear likes best.
25. Andy McKee does that without any help and with a lot more style. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddn4MGaS3N4
