1.
Robert Plant...
Is that not the guy who did some backing vocals for Alison Kraus recently.
2. Different kind of tears.
3.
You know who that is, right?
You'll have to tel me.
4. What do you think of this? I think it is just the best version I have heard. Even brings a tear to one man's eyes. Go to 4.00 for the start. Watch without prejudice. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms7yD5SJ5RY
5. I can vouch for ESP basses. I bought a fretless 204 and it is one of the best basses I have. You will not go wrong with an ESP. Sorry I can't help with measurements as mine is fretless and four string.
6. I would look at the angle of your wrist. Make sure it is as straight as possible. You could try dropping the height of the bass too. That might with the angle of your wrist. Might also be worth your while speaking to an osteopath. They can give you advice on how the muscle groups work together which might help.
7. This has been going on since time began. The only difference is maybe that it is being made professional. Our jazz band do an annual 'at home' gig as a fund raiser, we've played at private parties in 'front rooms' too. It is another way to help professional musicians though.
8. Here's the evidence. http://www.wunjoguitars.com/uk/wunjos-brand-new-bass-centre
9.
I do like a challenge. (anyone wanting a five pickup bass with all bells and whistles can F...R....O.. ).
I do like the way marketing has gone these days.
10. They are things of beauty. I love the idea of the fingerboard going all the way to the pickup.
11. I'm very happy with Basschat as a whole. I wouldn't want to be a Mod or Admin. Never an easy job. You can't please all of the people all of the time. As has been said, I am very happy to pay my £20 for a year's selling. How many thousand members are there here now? How many moaners are there? I would not be unhappy if Off Topic was removed, it's getting a bit Facebook these days. Please keep up the good work Admin and Mods.
12.
You gotta feel sorry for drummers!
Why? They made their choice.
13. Gary Willis plays that way a lot when seated. It fits his picking style and puts his right hand in the right place. I've tried this too. It is easier and more comfortable with some basses than others for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFcDGR9q85I
14. Lucky guy. He told his entire fan bass to blah bla and got away with it.
15. ...across the Topographic Ocean to Xanadu, decreed by Kubla Khan.
16. Some players like to get down below the bottom E, so a fiver fits there. Others like to get up into guitar territory or play chords, so a sixer fits there. Some others don't want the low B but like the idea of chords and notes above a G, so a fiver tuned EADGC fits there.
17.
Oh and yes five is better usually played by better players
Oh no they're not. Uh oh, here we go.
18. But you're only playing along to music you like. Back in the 1980s (I know, I'm old ) I used to put on my bass, a pair of headphones and listen to the Radio 1 chart show on a Sunday. Played along to most of the songs and that's what made me such a bad player these days. That really was shuffle.
19. Oh yes. I can see the conductor stopping the whole orchestra halfway through a Beethoven symphony, looking at the second violin and say "you made a mistake there, we'll start the whole thing again" I once saw Level 42 at Whitley Bay Ice Rink. Part way through one song Mike Lindup took a piano solo. He played a really bum note that ended up getting a huge cheer from the crowd. Take from that what you will.
20. I've seen that guitar before. It used to belong to Dr. Dre.
21. Photobucket, and jolly sharpish! Congratulations, can't wait to see it.
22. Ah!
23. Emperor's new clothes.
24. I tried a set of the Rotosounds recently and for me, they were no different to rounds. They are the right strings as they have the same silk ends as on the website. I use them on fretless and these ones damage the board just as much as rounds. Status supply their Hot Wires halfwounds. I bought a set of these recently and the E is very dead, as it was on the set I bought a year or two ago. You can get them through their website. D'Addario half rounds are pretty good. Stringbusters.com and Stringsdirect supply them.
25. You will pay anything up to 25-30% on top of the total price plus postage. That covers VAT and any customs charges. Have a look around on the Royal Mail web site. There is a page that explains it very clearly.
