1.
There is some info regarding pickup positions that I stumbled across on the web, its such a fascinating subject to research. Jas
I've seen some stuff on the net about pickup placement and various discussions. Be interesting to hear how you feel about your placement.
2. Beautiful bass and the best position for the back pickup. Bet that sounds good soloed.
3.
Obviously all the four bangers are going to tell you the four feels right because that's how many strings a bass has blah blah
...and blah, blah, blah. Actually, somewhere on his Youtube channel Scott Devine details how he gets the tones below low E using an octave pedal. None of his basses go below low E naturally.
4.
Just reminded me that I was going to discuss whether Rob was intending to put the new electronics package in a pedal with him at LBGS...sh1t!!
You'll get the same type of EQ system in the Empress Para EQ
5. The face of that bass is up there with Miss Myrtle. The two best looking basses.......in the world!
6. Just sold my Platinum Pro EQ to Jimmy. Cash in hand and no problems whatsoever. Recommended.
7. Just work at the two finger picking slowly on a regular basis and it will come eventually. Your hand muscles are having to get used to working in a way they haven't done before. Don't rush it. Think back to when you started playing bass and how your left hand felt trying to fret notes.
8. There's the British equivalent Allparts UK
9. I don't know about the worst but having just had a great practice with the band there are far more positives to concentrate on. If you feel stuck in a rut try playing a different type of music. I was there in the mid 90s. No rock music was influencing me so I got involved in a folky session and I've never looked back since then. Jazz got me back to the bass again 12 years ago and that gave me lots to learn. That has kept things fresh.
10. John Patitucci gives an explanation of how he works EQ in this clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNQclaAmyX8
11. I went to the first one and the noise at that was enough. My internal organs just survived as well. Those who have been there will understand that.
12. Baddly made or baddly set up. I read a post elsewhere recently that talked about a good setup making a cheap bass play like a million dollar bass.
13. The S1 looks pretty special too.
14. That is a real cracker. The original tuner set just makes these basses look so much better, IMHO of course.
15. It might be technique. If you are using roundwound strings then they produce a lot more treble and will click more when you fret a note. You could try turning the tone on your bass down a bit which might help reduce the click. Flatwound strings will reduce the top end of the tone (treble), are much smother on your fingers and usually give a much warmer tone. It might also be worth your while taking the bass for a setup. Most instrument shops will have a tech who can do this or find a recommended luthier on here who can advise you. Where are you based?
16. Are you offering postage or collection only?
17. OH YUM! That's a bit of a dream bass Dave.
18. Great stuff. That pic of you and MK on the screen is one for the family album.
19. If it is an S2 then snap it up. But I'm not sure for that price it will be an S2. Does it have soap bar or jazz type pickups? What controls does it have? Wooden neck or graphite neck?
20. That is a great view. The Sage is a great venue. I've always liked the vibe there. Hope all goes well Michael.
21. I should say so! I have a fretless one. Best bass I've ever had and the only one I'd take into the nuclear shelter with me. There isn't really much difference between bolt-on and neck-thru. The bolt-ons might have a slightly warmer tone to them. There isn't much difference in sustain between the two. They are no less of a bass than a neck-thru. Also a lot cheaper.
22. I think a lot of the measurements they use have come from buyers for specific cabs. Roqsolid will not know each and every cab available. It might be worth your while dropping them an email to inform them of this. They are very obliging.
23.
Having just contributed to a thread concerning the overall subjectivity involved in music it seems unfortunately ironic that you're attempting to cause more commotion on the board with this given subject.
Yes. Stirring up a hornets nest comes to mind. Improvisation is what it is, made up as you go along. Sometimes it works really well, others it's just awful and most of the time it's just OK. I'm a big fan of Gary Willis' playing. Even he, as a master of the instrument, doesn't quite do it for me every time. The videos on youtube are only a few from JP's entire career, cut short as it was.
