1. I'm tempted by the four string fretless, but do I need any more basses. Of course I do. This thread on Talkbass seems to rate them very highly.
2. It's good to see someone playing tastefully like that and not trying to show off. Also good to see a jazz bass being played finger style with no thumb up ready for a good slap. Thanks for posting that.
3. Just bought a Hartke Bass Attack from Jonny. Great condition and a fast and problem free transaction. Thanks Jonny.
4.
Lovely bass but where are the controls?
Kind of you to answer my question bump!
5. I like that! Sinner/Saint has a great beat to it. I love two to the bar bass. Some nice chord changes on 15 Minutes of Fame. Good work. What bass/basses were used?
6. Also lots of fake book web sites. http://www.ralphpatt.com/Song.html http://kristinhall.org/songbook/BluesAndStandards.html http://www.guitarcats.com/realbook-jazz-standards/A
7. Do you mean something like the Real Book (in various volumes)? http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Real-Book-Books-Leonard/dp/0634060384/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357488620&sr=8-1
8.
You've been a member here since Feb 2011 and you've got 1 active post - how do you manage that???
He has a life! Unlike the rest of us.
9.
Probably best to be discreet and not name them.
Plenty of people on here and elsewhere, were less than discreet about the Bass Callar. I believe that is not there any more. In this economic age the way Wunjos treat customers is what brings people back. It's browsing and good advice that eventually leads to a sale.
10. Nice job indeed. I've never been a fan of the looks of the Thumb but the way you have used the woods here gives a bit more life to the look of it.
11. The selling motive has always been in my mind when reading reviews on the net. We're in no hurry for something new so it might just be a waiting game.
12. All the help here is very useful. Used is an option we could go for but choice in that direction is not great. We are all based about 60 miles from the nearest big cities of Edinburgh and Newcastle. I wouldn't want to buy used unless I could try it out first. So new might be all there is as those can be easily tested. I'm going to take a trip to Soundslive in Newcastle soon and see what they can advise. They've always given me good service in the past.
13.
Assume that budget is for active..?? That is a tough ask, IMO. If you are serious about the Mackies, get a demo to see whether they have clarity with your mixer. My problem with a lot of companies making the cheaper end is where have they cut to the bone. Ask about replacement horn parts... and what is the warranty like.
I hadn't really considered active until this week when I saw the Thumps. They are made in China like a lot of budget ranges. I'm looking at anything that might be useful.
14. Great, thanks a lot guys. Really useful stuff.
15. Thanks for that. I should perhaps have put in a bit more info. We are unfortunately on a budget, around £500, otherwise the RCFs would be great. I'm in a jazz band and we only really need the PA for vocals. I was recommended the Thump speakers in a music store. We need something that will cope with lots of talking while we are playing. I had looked at the Samson 308i but was told that would struggle. I have another store to go to for a second opinion before I buy.
16. Has anyone had any experience of the Mackie Thump 12a PA speakers. What's the volume like?
17.
Serious bargain.
I'd say so too. My Contra cost me more than that new donkeys years ago.
18. As you press the string down onto the fret that action stretches the string a little. That will change the intonation itself. So if you can get the intonation of the harmonic as close as possible to the fretted note at the twelfth fret then the open string notes will be as in tune as the fretted notes at the other end of the neck. Never heard it being done at 17th before but why not.
19. There are plenty of examples of Status basses on YouTube with phenolic boards. If you want a warmer tone then it might not be the best for that. I can get a lovely warm tone from my Status S2 fretless but I use halfwounds or flats on that and wind off all the top end. Round wounds are just too bright and sparkly for my ears.
20. It's much easier and gives better results, IMO, if you use Photobucket or another photo host. The link below tells you how. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/191620-how-to-add-a-picture-to-your-post/page__view__findpost__p__1865098
21.
For some reason i cannot upload pic but if you click on the the link to Level42.com I have provided you see the amp..
Well, that's a picture of Mark King holding 'A' Superfly amp. Pictures of your amp with the quoted provenance beside it might be the clincher.
22. Whether or not it belonged to Mark King is irrelevant. The market will decide if it sells at that price.
23. I take it you mean check the intonation? If that's the case then it should be fairly easy. Plug your bass into a tuner and tune it to pitch. Then play the harmonic over the 12th fret, pluck the string while touching it but not fretting it. Watch the tuner to see how the tuning compaired to the freted note. If they are different then you need to adjust the intonation by moving the saddle back and forth until both are in tune.
