1. This bass will hold it's value many times better than a car ever will, unless it's a Bugatti Veyron you have. Do not do it Marcus! Ian has laid out all the alternatives above. Don't do it!
2. It might only be 3 or 4mm difference in width at the nut but that can make all the difference. I can play a jazz neck at 38mm but much prefer my Status S2 neck width at 41mm. It's just personal taste and you have to try as many different basses with different nut widths to find what is most comfortable for you. Then there is the depth of the neck at the nut and the twelfth fret. The profile to the back of the neck. The taper of the neck. The heal. Getting board yet. Lots to consider. Just try lots of different basses.
3.
I don't. I generally think about the chords when I'm walking.
This was my point. It involves a lot of thinking time if you have to decide what mode you use if chords change once or twice in every bar. On a tune like So What there are only really two chords in the whole thing. To keep things interesting then, yes, use the modes. There is plenty of time to think about what you are going to do. Otherwise, as Doddy says, work with chord tones.
4. I'm afraid I can't answer questions about modes and what I say I'm sure will will be roundly knocked by those with a greater theoretical knowledge than me. I think sometimes too much knowledge of what mode to play with what chord can loose sight of the warmth that actualiy lends more to the music you play. There are not many notes in the scale that will not fit whatever chord you play under. By all means learn the theory but use your ears as well. They will allow you to play a much better line and you won't have to think so much. There are plenty of backing tracks available on youtube to practice with. Just try playing by ear and find out which notes work for you and which don't. The swing you play with is far more important for me than the theory.
5. I'm not sure I would refer to some of the examples as "walking" bass lines. Maybe that's just the subjectiveness of music though. Spencer Davis Group's Blues in F is certainly walking. Perhaps more jazzy blues than pop though.

7.
He's definitely a custom builder who has no interest in making other brands shapes and styles, he's got his 'trademark' style and shapes and that's his niche really
And I suppose that's why we go to those individual builders. Rob Green at Status and Roger at Fylde can be the same. They all still make great instruments though.
8.
Come to think of it this one got scrapped as well took it for a repair picked it up and its now got a new body
Now that is very pretty. What is the face wood?
9.
Just a quick one, but when do you ever really touch the fretboard?
When it's fretless and it's still gorgeous.
10. Never heard of him. Why do I think I won't be saying that in a couple of years time? I like the stuff I've just looked at on YouTube.

12.
That should please BassBus
Oh happy days. There is a god.
13. Our jazz band was backing a local jazz singer at Fiori restaurant in Galashiels. Seemed to go down well. One guy even came up to me afterwards to ask me about my bass He even recognised it as a Status In the Scottish Borders too. The last backwater of parochial community. Anyway, it wasn't the easiest place to play. Long and narrow with a raised section on one side and lots of hard surfaces, with us stuck in a corner. Nightmare for sound. Turned out fine though. Lots of positive comments. Even met a guy I played with on a session years ago who I'd been told was dead. So there you go, there is life after death.
14. One of the last iconic broadcasters. No-one will ever be able to show him proof of water on the moon now.
15.
I don't think the gypsy jazz sound can be done with a bass guitar. I don't think you can make a bass guitar swing like that. Maybe someone can prove me wrong.
Right! I tried it a couple of weeks ago at a gig and the bass guitar just didn't fit that music. To my ears anyway.
16.
Is the neck shape the older rounded one, or the new square-ish one?
A bolt on S2 of that age should have the squarer neck profile.
17. With Schallers you simply pull out the little button on the clip and the strap comes off. Simples. Takes no time at all.
18. Oh my That really is quite pretty. My back is feeling weak just looking at it.
19. That's all if the soundman even knows what a double bass sounds like. I played a gig some time ago where I went into the PA. Sound was dreadful and the piano player turns round and says "How to make a double bass sound like a Fender Precision". Nuff said.
20. I'd get in touch with Ashdown. I had a fault on my MAG210T when I had it. They took the amp back via the point of sale and dealt with it. They were very helpful.
21. Use the second bit in this link about image hosts. Works fine. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/191620-how-to-add-a-picture-to-your-post/
22. A number of people have been having problems posting photos recently. Here's a link to instruction on how to do it. I think the best way is to use the second bit where you use a photo hosting site like Photobucket.com. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/191620-how-to-add-a-picture-to-your-post/ Have fun on the forum and don't feel put out if no-one replies to your posts.
