2. Our jazz band was backing a local jazz singer at Fiori restaurant in Galashiels. Seemed to go down well. One guy even came up to me afterwards to ask me about my bass He even recognised it as a Status In the Scottish Borders too. The last backwater of parochial community. Anyway, it wasn't the easiest place to play. Long and narrow with a raised section on one side and lots of hard surfaces, with us stuck in a corner. Nightmare for sound. Turned out fine though. Lots of positive comments. Even met a guy I played with on a session years ago who I'd been told was dead. So there you go, there is life after death.
3. One of the last iconic broadcasters. No-one will ever be able to show him proof of water on the moon now.
4.
I don't think the gypsy jazz sound can be done with a bass guitar. I don't think you can make a bass guitar swing like that. Maybe someone can prove me wrong.
Right! I tried it a couple of weeks ago at a gig and the bass guitar just didn't fit that music. To my ears anyway.
5.
Is the neck shape the older rounded one, or the new square-ish one?
A bolt on S2 of that age should have the squarer neck profile.
6. With Schallers you simply pull out the little button on the clip and the strap comes off. Simples. Takes no time at all.
7. Oh my That really is quite pretty. My back is feeling weak just looking at it.
8. That's all if the soundman even knows what a double bass sounds like. I played a gig some time ago where I went into the PA. Sound was dreadful and the piano player turns round and says "How to make a double bass sound like a Fender Precision". Nuff said.
9. I'd get in touch with Ashdown. I had a fault on my MAG210T when I had it. They took the amp back via the point of sale and dealt with it. They were very helpful.
10. Use the second bit in this link about image hosts. Works fine. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/191620-how-to-add-a-picture-to-your-post/

12. A number of people have been having problems posting photos recently. Here's a link to instruction on how to do it. I think the best way is to use the second bit where you use a photo hosting site like Photobucket.com. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/191620-how-to-add-a-picture-to-your-post/ Have fun on the forum and don't feel put out if no-one replies to your posts.

14. A quality instrument will always help your playing more than cheaper ones. I remember a story of a young musician many years ago who entered a very prestigious music competition. He was very much able to win this competition, without being arrogant about it. He was quite surprised to find that he didn't win despite putting in a very good performance. The Judges called him aside after the end. They informed him that they were well aware he had the capability to win but his instrument let him down. As a special award they gave him £2000 towards the cost of a new instrument. That was in the 80s. The same again would have been added to that for the purchase. That person has had a very successful career as a musician ever since. I'll let you take from that what you will.
15. Relax! If I were you I would just keep using your charts at practices all the time. When it comes to gigs you'll know the stuff. Just relax and don't worry about it. The more you fret the more you'll tense up and forget things. Jazz players often use charts during performances, even John Patitucci and you don't get much better than him.
16. ...and some pics of your own bass to show the condition.

18. Interesting stuff indeed, but how did that machine get to the point that it could play that line? If indeed it did play that line. People had to design that machine. People had to build it. People had to program it. I don't think we are in a lot of danger. Once upon a time someone said we would be a cashless society. Someone said we would not need paper. Someone said CB radio was the future. Maybe I'm just one of these real idiots though.
19. If you have a synth pickup on a bass I'd imagine you could use a Minitaur with a bass. You'd need a midi interface as well most likely.
20. Sounds great James. The bass is mixed beautifully. I was just playing a bit of Gypsy Jazz at a gig last night. Keep up the good work.

22. PMed. I know there have been some problems with others uploading photos onto the site after the hacking last week. Best try a photo hosting site and work from there.

24. £8481.63 for a bass that makes no sound. They forgot to put any controls on it. Yeehaaa! 25.
Am I allowed to comment on the poor singing technique of the young girl in the white top (Ellie Goulding)
I'm told she's quite popular with young people. LG's closing set on the Friday show was great. Very infectious. He got da funk.
