1.
I used to take all my stuff to Chris when he was in Peckham, he's excellent. Edinburgh is a bit of a mission for me now though.
Chris still does some work in London. He's been there for this past week. Mostly based in Edinburgh though.
2.
Who's Mark Knopfler?
He was the rough looking one in Auf Wiedersehen Pet, pet.
3. I use Chris McIntyre in Edinburgh (and sometimes London). Setup including filing the nut £35 . Telling me it's a blend pot and not the volume I thought it was, no charge. That's why the pickup didn't work. Doh!
4. Bet yer borstin wi' excitement, bonny lad. Well done Michael, make the most of it.
5.
...(2) I took delivery in the summer, of a new series 2 headless from Status, and there's no point in having two...!!
This I do not understand! It's a Status, you need a spare. What if the new one breaks down? It won't but you still need a spare. Try uploading the photos onto one of the photo hosting sites, I use Photobucket.com. You can then copy the direct link to each photo into the window that comes up when you press the icon that looks like a wee tele at the top of the reply box. This bass has to be seen!
6. This might help you. 7. I'm not sure how much the acoustics of the room contribute to the sound in these two clips. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wty6jkbteVg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhncEjUrBFw
8. These sound much better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wty6jkbteVg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhncEjUrBFw
9. I've never been crazy about these synthetic rubber strings. A bit of work on the EQing of it and it might sound a bit better. Lovely looking bass but for me the sound lacks character.
10. Do you have any more details about this? Has it been used? Does it have the two switches?
11. I can't help with the details of the bass but this is probably as good a place to start trying to sell a bass. Click here and start a new post. There are some rules to follow when selling on BC and they are set out in the link at the top of that page. Get some photos taken, pop them in your post with as detailed a description as you can and off you go.
12. Rule number two under "Guidelines for Sellers" http://basschat.co.u...tion=rules&f=19 Would a car sales centre try and sell cars with only a written description?
13.
Have you not seen this.......? (at 3.55, he is singing a third higher Monster player)
That might leave some people cold but you have to admire the playing. He has a great voice too.

New Zoom B3

Doesn't look like it unfortunately.
15. I'd keep the action as high as you can. It will help keep the volume as high as possible. There is more room for the string to vibrate. Think how high the strings are off the body of a double bass. If it is too high at the nut then that can be lowered by a luthier if you don't know what you are doing with nuts.
16. There would be a lot more interest if you posted pics here so we can see what your bass looks like.
17. I'd say it was an East J-Retro pre amp. Two switches and no LED. Different knobs too.
18. ...and what's the problem with that? The originals are put together by one group of players. Why then, can another group of people not interpret it their own way? That's what happens in jazz all the time. John Entwistle talked about the fans who picked up on him playing one note out of place on the My Generation solo. He recorded it as an improvised solo but because it was on record in some people's minds it has to be played the same all the time. Why not vary things? Most pop and rock stuff will have come from improvisation anyway. Keep it flexible. Much more fun.
19.
Bit of Trev on double bass with the AoN gang: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4THY1v3a5k
And there was me thinking "what the b#$$£% hell is Paul Morley doing up there"? But then I remembered...
20. It's Papa Lazaroo Oh, the bass? That looks like a Westone of some sort.
21. Might be a bit late to the party here but Status Hot Wires do black nylon/tapewound strings 40-100and 45-105. Having said that just ordered a set of La Bella tapewounds from Stringbusters. Always had good dealings with them and superfast delivery.
22. Twat!!! Well he must have been. That sounds like fun music and good bass playing. Nice story too.
23. Interesting comment about the cheaper basses. I had thought that raising the action would help. That's part of the reason a DB has a higher volume. All the clips I've looked at on YouTube are being played solo so doesn't give an idea of ensemble playing. The best sounding one was strung with black nylon strings. Ehm, no, I don't have $2200 to spare. More's the pitty as it looks like an interesting instrument.
