1. I'm sure you'll get a lot more interest if you post photos on here.
2. I'd say Ripper. Spot the difference. 3.
yes it s a bit lame i guess but it was merely to shgow him in plain clothes lol his cross dressing manga pop videos have much better bass playing imho
Ah, now I see who it is. Yes he is a good player but the slapping while accompanying traditional instruments doesn't fit in my ear.
4. When slapping just gets in the way.
5. Sounds like good advice from icastle. I play in a folk trio, fiddle, acoustic guitar and bass. We only play occasionally as a support but a few jokes are told and the audience are engaged. Be sure to get the balance right. Don't try and dominate with the bass. Just keep it basic and take your place as support to the guitar, even if it does stick in your teeth.
6. Yes, post in the relevant for sale section otherwise the mods will be on your back. Might also be worth your while having a look at the rules for selling gear on Basschat. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?app=forums&module=forums&section=rules&f=19
7. Why not just start a feeler thread in the for sale section where it should be. If there's no interest it can be withdrawn.
8. Interesting point. 8 out of the first twelve at the moment are collective threads. Maybe it's more of a sign that people aren't buying and trading as much as they have been in the past.
9. You held it in Grimsby. Something fishy there.
10.
I bet she growls too!
That's an interesting point. Chris commented on how it doesn't have a great deal of mwah. I think that's down to the strings being quite old. They do have a great sound though for me. The preamp certainly gives a lot of punch. The mid controls a great there.
Looks great. Interesting idea with the black and white fret liners as well.
When Chris said he had made the large bit of the line white I wasn't so sure. In practice the whole thing is spot on. With the height I wear the bass, as I look at the neck, the E string covers the join. With the fingerboard being a lighter Rosewood. the black isn't quite as in your face as white would be. As you look through the other strings the white shows up nice and clearly. That worked out really well.
11. Emperors new clothes.
12. Just had two EMG pickups delivered from Jamie. No problems whatsoever. Pleasure to deal with. Thanks Jamie.
13. Might be worth your while trying a Markbass Superbooster pedal between the bass and amp. I have found this useful when I can't get a good sound through an amp. Equally, I now use a Markbass 12" combo which has the same VLE and VPF controls. That has always helped with my semi-hollow basses. Just thought. The Acoustic Image amps have filter controls which are good for acoustic instruments.
14. Quite frankly, anyone who says they never look at the neck is talking through the proverbial. As has been said it depends on how complicated the part is. I would rather see someone look at the neck and get it right than have them try to look cool and fluff it up. I do both as eye contact with the audience is important to me, even if there aren't any pretty girls.
15. You'll likely get a lot more interest if you post photos of your bass in this thread.
16. Bit narrow at the nut for a P neck.
17. My E Spirocore went like that. Then it broke. Might be time to change. I put on another set of Spirocores and once again a lovely tone.
18.
I saw jack Bruce last year, swear he had a fretless warwick and I really didn't like the tone, thought maybe it was due to too much treble on a fretless?!
He has his own signature Warwick. I've never really liked his tone either. I don't think it's the best tone you can get out a fretless. But then he must like it and that's fine for him.
19. I can't speak for the MM preamps but I've just had an East J-Retro fitted to my Jazz and it sounds monstrous when you need it to.
20.
On another note, I felt that the sound this guy got from it was not interesting enough to ward a purchase. I hope to find other examples where the gamba sounds more historic so to speak.
Likely the same problem we all face in trying to make an EUB sound like a double bass.
21. If you are going to play it in a punky band then I don't think the intonation thing will be too much of a problem. There will be too much noise going on and that will cover up any slightly out of tune notes. Just go for it.
22. John Patitucci uses this technique to mute the strings he's not playing on his electric six string. Keep working at it and any tension in your hand will lessen.
23. Weekend bump. Still willing to discuss shipping in UK only.
