1.
Though I doubt they are set up anymore to make wood necks
Well, that might be a case of "watch this space". Going by Rob's recent post on Statii.com.
2.
Hey BassBus that'd be class if you could! Post your soundcloud address on here and I'll download it! An Paul yeah please, be interesting to have a look at it
Sorry lobematt, haven't been keeping up with this thread so missed your post. I'm away from home just now but will try and get that up when I'm back tomorrow.
3.
Judging by the pickups, think it could be a Legend Custom.
It would only be a Legend Custom if it had a set neck, if I remember correctly.
4. I've been subscribed to his videos for a while and so many of them have spurred me into practicing bits. Inspiration is a good word for it. He puts everything over in such a straight forward manner that anyone can understand it. The Gary Willis videos really opened my eyes, not being particularly good with theory.
5. Perfect excuse to get rid of guitarists, a seven string bass and a whammy pedal. Makes them redundant. Also gives my fingers cramp just looking at it. Amazing machine.
6. Roqsolid is probably your best bet. Covers made to order and usually arrive with in days, seriously. Very high quality. http://www.roqsolid.co.uk/wp/
7. I used Todd Phillips' Essential Techniques for Acoustic Bass DVD. Helped a lot with finger positions. And as thisnameistaken said, build things up slowly. When you start running for the first time you can't run a marathon.
8. Do you have Band in a Box? If not get hold of it for PC or Mac. Simply type in the chords select the style you want and press play. Instant backing track. I have it in my Band in a Box. I could post it on my Soundcloud if you want.
9.
Incidentally, I don't mind jazz and I positively like fusion.
I'm glad someone has some good judgement.
10. Good point. What about post-it tags. Just stick them on the top corner of the page and it gives you something easy to grab on to. http://www.post-it.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Post_It/Global/Products/Flags/
11. It's so bad that sounds like distortion or is that in there too. Here's another one. How to ruin a good Status bass http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tz7vEsslqX4&feature=related
12. Ah, at last my son, the light you have seen. Nowt wrong with folk either. I play Lady be good with jazzers and folkers.
13. It's one of these things that comes down to personal taste. I like the sound of string on wood so I would go for the uncoated board. I play a defretted Tokai Jazz with rosewood board and halfwounds. Gives me exactly the sound I want. Loads of mwah and lots of singing. I also have a Status S2 fretless with a phenolic board and that has a completely different sound. Much brighter and clearer. I often use flats on that which gives a lovely mellow tone. I find rounds on a fretless just too bright. So personal taste. I'd try different strings on the open wood board before you coat it.
14. Dead spots are a fact on guitars, even those with graphite necks. My Status S2 fretless has a dead spot on the open D. Rob Green states quite clearly that even graphite necks have dead spots. You might exchange the bass for another with a dead spot in another place. Neck pocket is another issue. With all the computer controlled cutting they have in factories these days I can't understand that one.
15.
yeah I love the necks. Dialemma i have is would i play it enough to justify having? I have a P bass and this is the same placement. hmmm
I'm not a big fan of the P bass sound but just watching Django Django on Later and that guy's P sounded great. Just right for that music anyway.
16. I know I'm biased, but I don't think you can go wrong with any Status bass. The wooden necked Status basses from the 90s are such good value as they are not in as much demand as graphite necks. Haven't played a Shark but I do have a wooden necked Electro and that is just exquisite.
17. I think he needs to look at his business model. If he spends pennies on shipping he will get pennies of a service. At least you are getting your money back. And yes DB is an expensive business. Just wait till you need to change strings.
18. That's looking particularly good. The finish just sets it off beautifully. Well done.
19. Just uploaded my original Maple Leaf Angel to the group. And my page http://soundcloud.com/bassbus
20. Not many people are going to buy something like this sight unseen.
21. Thanks for posting that. I'm not that up on theory but that explains things very clearly.
22.
Hey, thanks for the suggestion, but that's the main theme. I'm trying to work out a different song
When will I learn to read the whole post. Second time I've done that in the last week. Doh!
23. It's called 'Drag Racer' originally recorded by the Doug Wood Band.
24. I have a friend who bought a Gibson acoustic from the US. Arrived no problem. Cost £1K but the store marked it for customs at £500. Not sure that's the best thing to do though. If anything happens in transit you could loose a lot of money.
25.
Though have found out they have a new editor in Joel McIver (writer of many cracking rock biographies)!
That'll be the third editor in the last twelve months. That might indicate problems.
