1. OK I'll give some feedback. Beautiful crisp clear tone. Fine use of a six string. Didn't hear a bum note anywhere. It's great to hear someone play a piece that doesn't involve trying to show off. In not trying to show off you show just how well you play your instrument. First class debut on Soundcloud.
2. I'm sure someone will mention Thomastic Jazz Flats before long. I have been using them for years (the same set). They have quite a deep tone but at the same time a lot of character without the zing. The G is a 43, can't remember what the E is. They are quite similar to the Status halfwounds I have also used. I've never been keen on flats but like a darker sound from a string. The halfwounds and TI Jazz Flats give me the tone I want.
3. If you want a real Status Jazz bass, how about this.
4. Or you could just go to your local Maplins and buy one of these. http://www.maplin.co.uk/speakon-to-1-4-inch-jack-heavy-duty-speaker-leads-224540
5. Don't be fooled by this. These come up on ebay from time to time. It is not THE Status in Colchester. Some cheap jazz copy and the prices they go for reflect that. Ah crez beat me to it.
6. These are custom basses so anything is possible.
7. Unfortunately that's par for the course in forums these days. There was a lot of trouble with spam ads purporting to be Status owners last year so that action has had to be taken. It'll be worth the wait. Well, I hope you think it is.
8.
Surely if your technique is good enough, two should suffice?
Of course that's right. However, there is always the case for developing your playing style. Keeps everything fresh. And of course you can keep everything fresh using different styles playing with two fingers. Whatever suits the individual. Gary Willis' explanation is quite simple. He started playing with three fingers so he's never known any different.
9. Nice bass. Centre tone blocks are usually walnut with wings made from mahogany. There are sometimes other woods used. The front and back look like either rosewood or cocobolo. you could try posting this on Statii.com. There are members there who know a whole lot more about these than I do.
10. ...and this one that went on ebay in January. 11. There was a fretless SB330 on ebay recently that went for about £380. That might be a guide. Looked very much like this one but with four strings and humbuckers.
12. Gary Willis is a great proponent of the three finger technique. http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=w_oBJlE5qNc
13. I've posted a link to this on Statii.com. http://www.statii.com/forum/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=4710
14. Why not buy one of these. Not expensive. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Planet-Waves-Ergonomic-Guitar-Winder/dp/B0002GJ3G4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328116106&sr=8-1
15. Don't know if it would fit a mandolin but have a look at this... http://www.mbracestand.com/mbrace_home.html
16. Love the face on the jazz. The nut looks quite wide for a jazz neck. Might just be the picture. Nice clean lines on the S2.
17. Now you're just trying to make us jealous. That is a beaut.
18. This might be of some use. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5LDY5Unkvs
19.
anybody got any up to date info on double ball strings?? - recommendations from Status owners??
Status strings fit my Hohner B2A no problem. Rounds, flats and halfwounds, I've used them all and they have a great tone. Good long life too. I swap flats and halfwounds on my Status S2 for different uses. Change over takes no time at all. Can never understand why some people don't like the headless tuning system. So stable. You can also order in bulk and get them even cheaper. They come in bulk as six sets.
20. A nice little exercise I do is playing up and down the scale in fourths. 1st and its 4th, 2nd and its 4th, 3rd and its 4th and so on. It sounds quite musical and I have used it in jazz solos. It is quite good for lifting you up to the next section of a piece. It can be done just as well with any other step, second, third, fifth, etc.
21. This thread might as well be drawn to a close. Just accept you will never change the denial of an addict and it is already starting to get a little personal.
