1.
sorry bassbuss - not bump -
None taken.
2. I had to look to see if mine was still in the room, identical. What's the serial number? Has to have one of the best necks I've ever played. Lovely P bass sound too. I might be wrong but I think the body was made from Alder. Have a bump anyway.
3.
I hope and pray that I can one day play well enough to justifyhaving a work of art like that in my possession.......
Having a bass like that will help you play a lot better. No, honestly it will.
4. The FV-50h can be used with anything. It can have instruments plugged straight into it unlike the FV-50L which can only be used after an effects chain, ie you cannot plug instruments straight into it. So no it won't affect the sound. Here's a couple of links that explain things. FV-50H http://www.dv247.com/studio-equipment/roland-fv50h-high-impedance-volume-pedal--6618 FV50L http://www.dv247.com/keyboards-and-midi/roland-fv50l-low-impedance-volume-pedal--6619

COWPOKE!

There's no high end or low end when it comes to porn, just good old filth and that's a fine looking bass. The scratchplate really sets it off nicely.
6. I did this a while ago. All the suggestions above but I also rolled up two long lengths of cardboard the full length of the neck. Wrap some card around the neck and then tape these roles of cardboard to either side of the neck. All I know is the bass arrived in one piece. Just gives a bit of extra strength to the neck and some more peace of mind to you.
7. Not cheap but you can buy Band in a Box for the computer. Just type in the chord changes, select a style of your choice, press play and you have a whole arrangement that you can switch individual instruments in and out of. http://www.pgmusic.com/
8. Glad you fancy headless. Straight string pull, no winding around tuning posts. That said Rob's basses are just as good either way. I have both but would choose headless. As far as neck-thru or bolt-on are concerned; neck-thru as stated earlier will give you a more sparkly tone, slightly more top end. Bolt-on will give a slightly warmer tone. The bolt-on is no less of a bass than a neck-thru except neck-thrus cost a lot more. Neck=thrus come with a standard polyurithane finnish while bolt-ons have a natural satin finnish. Either can be selected as a custom order. However, a bolt-on with polyurethane finnish will cost much the same as a neck-thru. I chose bolt-on for my fretless S2. Just a beautiful, full warm tone with Flats on it. Standard fingerboard is phenolic but you can ask for a wooden board to be fitted. Phenolic will give you a nice bright clear tone, what Status is known for. Rob now does pickups that can have switches to engage single coils. That gives you even more choice for tone. Confused. Keep going and you might just be.
9. If it was built in Czechoslovakia then it could well be a decent bass. The eastern European basses have quite a good rep. NS Design build most of their basses in the Czech Republic. I'd go with the idea of having a luthier look at it.
10. Try posting some pics and that would give us all a better idea. Edit: Ah, Jamie beat me to it.
11. I was just practicing with my Columbus Series 3 last night. Lovely bass. Always liked the neck. Feels just right in my hand and a great sound comes from it. Cost me all of £125 donkeys years ago. Probably worth about a tenner now so why sell it on when I enjoy playing it.
12. http://www.metronomeonline.com/ Edit: Ah, doesn't go down as low as you want.
13. ...and keep an eye on the for sale section here. I picked up a Markbass 1x12 combo for £500. Lots of good basses around too and as the market is a bit suppressed at the moment you might get something for a good price. If you're playing the rock stuff you talk about and only use the passive mode, then you won't go wrong with a Fender. You are comfortable with the Jazz so why not stick with that to start with. Usually quite a few around.
14. I really do not like Moondance and Sunny and I laugh when people think they are jazz tunes. However, here's one of the best jazz tunes ever written, Duke Ellington's Satin Doll. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQLtNSPC7P0
15. This site might also be of some help. http://www.stringmail.co.uk/stringinfo.htm
16. Had a drive down to Whitely Bay today to buy Dave's JV-1080. Flawless transaction and a great bloke. Fine collection of basses too. Thanks Dave, I'll have loads of fun with this. Graham
17.
I think it was those Status flats that were recomended to me by Steve_Soar. Are they any good? I dont recal seeing them anywhere.
They certainly are very good. I use them on my Status S2 fretless. The way I EQ the bass produces this lovely big fat, warm tone. One drummer I've played with commented that the bass was the most upright sounding electric he's heard. That says enough for me.
18. ...and they're appearing in Glasgow on January 19.
19. Like anything it's always worth experimenting. You're right to ask if unsure but without trying things that are new to us we'll never move on. Give them a go.
20. Turns out we're all wrong. It's rosewood. http://www.statii.com/forum/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=4628&pid=44155#post_44094
21.
But, there is a practical reason for not tuning in fifths: your hands probably aren't big enough!
This had crossed my mind. I used to play a full length scale bouzouki but playing tunes was difficult as I have relitively small hands. Bought a shorter scale Fylde Octavius and it is much easier. Still worth a try though.
22. You can buy custom sets of strings on the Status Graphite site. http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html Goto online shop -bass strings - single ball - long scale - then select one of the custom set pages. Might need some nut alteration for thicker strings.
23. I'm no expert on the woods Rob uses, or used, but it might be Cocobolo. That wood seems to vary quite a bit. Some is quite dark, some lighter. Some very red others not so. Still a lovely bass.
24. On the subject of reviews. It has been a criticism of BGM in the past that basses reviewed are too often in the higher price bracket. I have posted my feelings on this in the past. We all have the ability to go along to our local instrument store and look at endless Ibanez, Fender and Yamaha basses in the low to medium price bracket. Therefore, I think concentrating on that price of bass is perhaps not the best use of editorial space. Highlighting lesser known basses for me would be more use. But then again that is only my opinion.
25.
Until the required result is achieved. Just like the real government!
With that theory just remember that Governments only give a referendum when they know the result.
