1. Not many basses to beat a Status type bump. And yes on Statii.com as well. There's a guy in Paris looking for his first Status on there.
2.
really?..... http://www.johnmcfer...s.org/rush.html guess im not the only one....
Just because it doesn't get played on the radio does not mean it is bad music. 90% of the music I listen to will never see the radio.
3. This put me off. Geddy is struggling to reach the high notes these days. I'd rather remember them as they were. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaeJxxuBg5c
4.
According to the Steinberger history on their site - 1977 Several prototypes made of graphite reinforced epoxy are manufactured. Any advances on 1977?
http://www.edroman.com/guitars/steinberger/history.htm
5. Status are celibrating their 30th Anniversary this year so '81 was the start for them. Steinberger started production in 1976.
6.
( mp3 soundclip available, please PM me for it. Too difficult at present to load anything above 1.3Mb onto Basschat).
Why not upload a sound clip to http://soundcloud.com/dashboard then post the link on here. Beautiful bass. I love the combination of a black fingerboard and ash body. Pity I'm not in the market for a new bass.
7.
MB1. No dead spots...
Actually graphite necks can have dead spots. Rob states that on the Status site and I have quite a nice dead spot on the open A on my S2 fretless.
8.
I've play this a lot more than the others
AHH!!! I'm gassing after basskit_case's fretless but he won't post. These are lovely looking basses.
9. First Bass Owned: This was a horrible little short scale thing that had the name 'Raver' on the head. Not great at all but it got me started. Cost all of £26. 'Go To' Bass: At the moment it is my Status Electro 2. Lovely warm tone and a doddle to play with TI Jazz Flats on it. 'Your' Bass: The tone I love most comes from my Status Series 2000. I first tried one in the Wapping Bass Centre in 1987 and never forgot the neck profile and the tone. Picked mine up used in 2009 and still a joy to play, look at and listen to.
10. I'd make every effort to rescue my three Status basses as they are all supreme. If it had to be one though, I'd go for the Electro. The other two could be replaced with something almost identical but the Electro could not. Was bought used from Ebay at a resonable price but it is just so easy to play and has a lovely sound to it.
11. Shame you're so far away from me otherwise I'd have snapped that up. Have a bump for a very beautiful bass.
12. Right, that is used when you play a gig with a sound system/PA. The sound man might ask for a feed from your amp. That's where the XLR lead is plugged in. If he gets any kind of noise or interferance from that line out he might ask you to use the ground lift switch. Unless you are going into a PA you wouldn't normally use the ground lift or that line out. If you use another speaker cab with the combo you would use the speakon socket next to the combo speaker 6mm jack.
13.
...girls weren't meant to play with drills and screws and stuff!
Oh, if a bloke had said that... Find a local luthier who I'm sure will be able to sort it for you.
14. Ground lift is used when you experience some humming of sorts in your signal line. Switching it on can often remove this hum by interupting the circuit at some point. I'm not sure what you mean by "Line Mix". Is this the line out beside the ground lift switch? I have the CMD 121P, same amp but 12" speaker. Great little amp and a big sound. I put it through an MB 15" cab for noisier gigs.
15. For a swing novice that is a pretty good start. I've played worse than that and I've been playing swing for 10 years now. Keep that up and there's no stopping you.
16.
I found the TI acoustics are just too floppy for me to play.
You mean they are even looser than the jazz flats?
17.
let me know when you find your ideal set; i recently got Ti flats on my acoustic and gotta say, i don't love them.
What is it you're not keen on with TI Jazz Flats? I've been trying different strings recently on my Status Electro. Flats I find a bit lifeless on wood necks. The Hotwire Nylon wound are a bit bright, nylon wind on roundwound string. When I came back to the jazz flats the fullness of tone was just lovely. I'd just like to see if any other nylon core strings exist.
18. Is anyone aware of any sets like this? I'm aware of the TI Acousticore but that is round wound. Bit too bright for my needs and would chew up my fretless board. I want to put them on a fretless bass with a piezo pickup in the bridge. I've tried tapewounds, flats and halfwounds. Love my TI Jazz Flats but would love to try a set with nylon core and flat winding if they exist.
19. Well it's nice and sunny in the Scottish Borders right now. Having used so many Status basses you should get involved at Statii.com if you haven't already. Quite a list of gear you've had.
20. I don't know anything about these but very interesting picture of a "Buzzard" bass on the customers page. I wonder if Warwick know about that. There's a few Status Graphite fans who would love a Status Buzzard but Rob Green cannot make them. Like the look of the Carve Top Fretless though.
21. Only heard her first one and quite liked it. This is something completely different. Wow! Hope she continues to write/find good songs. That's quite a performance.
22. Think of all the scratches on the back, lying on rough ground like that.
