1. I'd go for long scale. I have halfwounds on my Tokai Jazz and they sound great. Full of character.
2. Hotwire flats on a Status S2000. Direct recording, no effects or EQ. Hotwire flats
3. Whatever you buy make sure you buy a trolly like this. I too have a dodgy back and put my compact 15" Markbass cab and AI Contra on it with no weight issues whatsoever.
4. I had Roqsolid make me a cover for my Markbass cab. Really easy to deal with and very fast service. Cover fits like a glove too. Highly recomended
5. While it doesn't have samples of the strings you talk about THIS site might be of use to you.
6.
A brittle sound is a characteristic of all piezo pickups...
That's an interesting comment. I wouldn't say my Shadow is at all brittle on my Stentor. Bass and treble are flat on the Contra and it produces a lovely rounded sound.
7. I can't really add to what has been said above. It says about all you need to know. I have used a BP100 and on my first Antoni DB it sounded awful, even through various preamps. However, when my Realist packed in on my current DB I tried the BP100 on it and it really produced quite a presentable sound. I now use a Shadow SH950 which, like an Underwood, fits under the wings of the bridge. It gives a lovely full DB sound. I put that straight into an Acoustic Image Contra, no preamp. Wind the mids off altogether, everything else is flat.
8. Fern and Burny Fernandez Strat equiped with GK pickup for the GR-55. Burny Les Paul with Fernandez Sustainer, goes through the ME-70.
9.
That's interesting. What exactly do you mean?
Prosessional band musicians - Great at what they do. Lucky enough to be in a band that write's the right songs at the right time that the right people want to release as records and continue to write the right songs that the right people want to continue listening to and realeasing as records. Coldplay, Rolling Stones, U2, Great at what they do but not versitile musicians. Professional working musicians - Those who are versitile enough to be able to give a wide variety of musical colaborators what is required for any particular type of music. Guy Pratt, Pino Palidino, Mo Foster.
10.
My new Series II Headed built in 1991
I'd love to see a family shot with your KBs I and II. Some beautiful basses.
11. Perhaps the best use for Antoni double basses. Certainly the one I used to have.
12.
Actually its being sold direct on eBay for $4,995. Ouch http://cgi.ebay.com/Bunny-Brunel-Signature...=item230d13f8af
Och well! I've just bought myself a Burny Les Paul instead.
13. There aren't many EUBs that sound close to a double bass, with the exception of the Bespoke basses. But I've just come across Bunny Brunel's new EUB. No sign of prices but it sounds great. Anyone have any more info on it, or even experience. http://www.bbelectricuprightbass.com/ Gets a good workout here with BB and Stanley Clarke
14.
Quite simply one of the most beautiful Status basses I've ever seen.
Nowt more you can say than that.
15. I'd knock the treble off altogether, keep mid flat and boost the bass a bit. I like the sound of the whole piece.
16. Great machines and that looks like a good price. I'm intrigued about the adapter, how did that work and what connecters have you used?
17. Glad to see another BCer on the right side of the border (duck )
18.
Just got this 6 string S2 Classic Thruneck from Bass Direct. It's superb. It has an extra pick up on it for for extra bottom end grunt. Also away from standard is extra bass and mid sweep knobs. It also has blue front and side LEDS. First rehearsal with ti tonight and if all goes well first gig with it tomorrow night.
Blimey! Knobs everywhere. Not seen anything like this before. Be interesting to hear how you get on with it.
19. Walking out the pub the other night with my double bass: "That's a big guitar". How many times have I heard that.
20.
They do. I don't think they need truss rods at all, they're a ridiculous idea on graphite necked basses.
From my own experience I'd disagree. When my S2000 arrived it had 30-95 strings on it, together with a load of buzz on the neck whenever I played it. Imediately put on a set of 35s and no buzz whatsoever. Therefore, the truss rod adds the flexibility to use whatever guage of string you wish. So I'd hardly say they are a "ridiculous idea on graphite necked basses" Rob does know what he is doing. As far as I know, the graphite used for Status necks these days is a lot more flexible than it was in older graphite necks.
21. Few questions. How old is the bass? How does the pickup sound, DBish or EBish? How high will the bridge adjust? Ta.
22. Have a bump on me. These are indeed great cabs and at that price worth buying.
23.
Roy Budd - 'carter takes a train' ... (yeah, the bass doesn't appear till 0.39s, but well worth the wait!)
Awww! Just for my avatar.
