1.
Am I allowed this one, bit obvious but still a great bass intro. Changed my life anyway. Stanley Clark - School Days You need to buzz on about a minute on this one
Good call 4 Strings. Don't know how we all forgot about that one. Great riff!
2. Mention of Mr. Sheehan reminds me of this.
3. Shows how much I pay attention. I never noticed until now that there is no graphite showing on the front of the body. All adds to the beauty of the instrument. That orange sunburst is gorjuss.
4.

That's the best so far by a long way.
5. I hadn't remembered a lot of these, good stuff. Some in there I haven't heard before either. Keep 'em coming.
6. the music I play in I just play by ear and everyone seems happy with that. I would feel too constricted if I had to play exactly what was written. I'd want to go off and improvise all the time. I like the freedom of ear playing, if that sounds right.
7. Take it in a slightly different musical direction.
8. DOH!!! Should have thought of this one. Quite topical with the current tour happening.
9. This clip appeared on my recommendations on youtube. Most are not what I would describe as the greatest but that's just my opinion. Any others you can think of that might be better?
10. "...that has be lovingly distressed and upgraded by a guy who relics guitars for a living (me)". I wonder if he's selling his ego as well.
11. Play one!!! TI Jazz Flats - Spectorcore fretless Status Hotwires - Status S2 Classic Hotwires Halfwounds - Tokai Jazz
12. Aww, that little Billy Wyman. Base indeed.
13. If it's any use here are some sound clips of my CR4M with Flexocor strings. Again, scuse the dodgy playing. Bass is set flat and played through Markbass Superbooster with VLE and VPF set to 12 o'clock. 14. You certainly won't go wrong with Myrtle. That's one of the most beautiful basses Rob has ever made. A fitting tribute to your Mum.
15. Good to see you posting here Kevin. I met you years ago at a jazz session in Edinburgh, no you won't remember Saw you playing with Leah Gough-Cooper last summer at the Sunday Grassmarket gigs. I was just getting into it when the heavens opened. What I heard was great. Always liked your playing. Graham
16. The WAV was made in China and NS Design were having quality control problems. The WAV was replaced by the NXT which is made in the Czech Republic in the same factory that makes the CR models. Essentially the NXT is the same bass as the WAV just better quality. All reports I've read on the bass have been good so far.
17. That's a lovely pair of Yamahas you have. Is that different wood on each of the fingerboards? What model are they?
18. How many different models does any custom builder produce? Probably just as many as Status only Status has graphite factored into the equasion which adds to the choice. That's what a custom builder does, gives you what you want and players seems to want all these options. It's not as if there are that many stock basses built. Rob doesn't seem to have time.
19. As Wil says it is very subjective, down to a matter of opinion. Nowt wrong with that. If you go for a Status you will get that crisp, clear sound. That's down to the graphite. I would argue though that Status basses can't be warm. My S2 fretless has a lovely warm sound. It is a bolt on though which lends itself to a warmer sound. Wooden basses such as Wals and ACGs are always going to be warmer than a bass with graphite. Put fretless into the equasion and that warms it up even more. The neck profiles of the earlier status basses were much more rounded. It was around '86/'87 that the square profile was introduced. That's what caught the feel of my left hand. That square profile is standard to this day.
20. When you refer to this as "frisk" I think you're being a little unfair here. Rob's basses have evolved through the years as they should. Life cannot stand still. Your feelings seem to be in the minority judging by the increase in the waiting time over the last few years. Status basses are custom instruments and as such are available with almost any custom option Rob can provide. The anniversary bass is being produced to celibrate the 30th anniversary of the company. If you want a bass in this form they do come up for sale from time to time. Indeed there was a very nice example that sold very recently. When you say you are considering a Wal, is that a new one. If so then the price of that will not be that much less than the price of the 30th Anniversary Series II. I have 1984 and 2008 Status basses and they are every bit as good as each other in their own way. By the way, there is a Kingbass for sale on Statii.com right now for a very good price for the model.
21.
What's prompted this post? You've been listening to early Oasis again haven't you?
Oh, God!!!
22.
If this were the case ... what would you do?
Oh, God!!!
23. Every company, no matter how large or small, is going to have a glitch in supply from time to time. In my experience Amazon is no exception to that either. I have ordered many sets from Status and I think only once had to wait more than a few days. Status only has Dawn to handle the despatch of all goods and is very efficient at it too. They have bent over backwards for me once in the past so I will naturally defend them. Rob and his team make the best basses as well.
24.
To reduce the chance of damage to the bottom of the WAV4, get a short length of plastic extrusion as sold for speaker cabinet edging and put that between strings and instrument - eg. this from Maplin (it's available cheaper elsewhere).
DB strings should fit through the string holes at the foot of the bass. I have my CR4M strung with Flexocors and they fit through fine, as did the Belcantos before them.
25. These Energys are interesting basses. Did you have the mods done for you?
