2. What a bag of No.2s
3. Basschat Marketplace ForSale: Electric basses For Sale: Double Bass and EUB Paraphernalia For Sale: Amps and Cabs etc. Unless anyone has a better idea.
4.
Just a couple of 'Jazz' notes...
That's an accidental.
5. Thanks daf. It seems to have everyone stumpped. I've emailed the Violin Shop in Glasgow where I bought the bass but that was about five or six years ago so I don't know if they will be able to help either. Hmm.
6. The G does have a different ball end, solid as oposed to the hole in the other two. The silks on each string are different colours too.
7. Thanks. I've tried that and didn't get anywhere with it.
8. Can anyone identify what make these strings are? They came on my current DB when I bought it but I swapped them out for TI Spirocores. The E Spiro broke recently so I put the E from this set back on and it has a lovely clear sharp tone to it. They were not good for bowing so I would suspect a pizz string of some sort. Thanks for any help. G String D String A String
9. No thanks! For that money I could get 4 pretty high spec Status basses and enjoy them far more. Everyone plays Fenders.
10.
Is there such a thing as a good slapped fretless bass recording??? Ooooo
Here's one introduced by your old mate Andy Batton Foster. Remember him? No?
11. His music never really floated my boat but his playing was fantastic. I just loved everything about the way he played the bass even if he wasn't a big influence on me. Will be missed.
12. Just sold an amp to Brett. Effortless transaction and he was very patient in waiting for snow to clear and Christmas/New Year to be out the way before sending.
13. That sounds painful too. I've never gone that far but have caught my nail on a string and it hurt but not to the extent of bleeding. Might expect it to fall off in good time.
14. Phew! I thought something had happened to Jimmy Nail. Glad he's alright.
15.
yep, Dave Margen, check this.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp7w6x1Fe7Y
But that's not a fretless bass he's playing.
16.
That's a bit harsh.
Oh no it isn't!
17. People often mock the fact we only play one note at a time but that kind of playing just sets that rhythm so well. While everyone else stays at the same pace you are able to speed things up and slow them down just by playing two or four notes to the bar. Love it.
18. Have you had any lessons on double bass? From what you are saying I'd say go straight to DB. When I started playing DB the trumpet player in the jazz band I play in said I'd never be short of work with a DB. Didn't believe him at the time but that has proven to be the case. The action on a DB can be altered to your taste by a good luthier who understands them. The first DB I had was pretty well unplayable until the action was lowered. My current DB was set up for jazz playing and is very comfortable. Perhaps hire a DB and get some proper lessons. It might be that some good technique would help you bond with the instrument. They have a wonderful sound even if they are a pox to cart around.
19. They only recommend that placement as the strings move least there. Bridge saddles would be best for that reason as well. You could put the pickup anywhere on the body you choose but at the risk of more latency.
20. There is always this alternative that one Streamline player has used. Puting the hex pickup between the two mags. Oh, and Status fretless basses are wonderful.
21. As has been said already electric uprights are completely different beasts to bass guitars. I never understand why players use the pizz/mag pup tones on EUBs. Might as well stick with a BG. All NS basses come with a stand. NXTs have a lower spec tripod. CRs have a decent heavy duty tripod which is much better. NS basses have the scale length of a double bass which will take a bit of getting used to. A lot of players have changed the stock strings for proper orchestral DB strings which give a much darker, warmer sound. I'd say persevere and try some proper DB technique and you'll get the most out of an EUB.
22. Two of my favourites. Neither of them particularly known for their fretless playing.

gone

I still have one of these. The neck is just lovely. Slim and easy to play.
24.
well, i think you managed to scare him off.... how long did that take? a day or so? I remember a similar "welcome" when i joined.
I think what has been said in other posts is quite reasonable. "No apology needed" from a moderator seems reasonable to me. If he really has a bass to sell he'll get the pics up somehow. Old saying "no pics, no bass".
25. That's a fine looking bass you have there, Chuck. Can I be nosey and ask how much you paid for it?
