Hey all, I've been playing bass for around 5 years now (a couple of cover and originals bands) and my current bass (Ibanez GSR200) is about 4-5 years old... i've been playing around with lots of different basses recently trying to find a nice upgrade... The things i'm looking towards atm is a 5string (due to playing bits of light metal and rocky stuff and wanting to play around with a 5 string for a change) and looking at the SR range - i just have 2 questions about it.... 1. the body type seems to be the only difference in the range... ash/mahogany etc. is there much difference aside from that? (any preferences) 2. while I can afford the ~£500 price tag i'm also looking around for 2nd hand ones. which as they're older wouldn't have the new mid range frequency select switch. Would i be missing much? is it worth buying new at all if i shop around (mostly on here) for a well looked after one. Thanks for any replies constructive or trolling... Kes.
For that price range you can find used SR's high models. If you want a new bass I would suggest you to look at ATKs as you cannot go for brand new high end SRs. They are very versatile and suits most of the styles. I own an ATK and used to have SR (not high end though). I would say the neck of SRs are great (probably the best and easiest to play for my little hands). However, having comparing the versatility, the ATK is way better than the SR (again, for me). It would be great to have SR's neck on ATK I also suggest you to check second hand warwicks on the form. You can find a good one in your price range. Good Luck, G

Hello everybody, I am going to sell my Roland 500 Combo as I moved from UK. It is sad that I couldn't take it with me as the shipping cost would be too much It is one of the best small combos I have ever seen. It definitely sounds bigger than it looks. I bought it couple of years ago as second hand. It is in very good condition and has never been gigged by me. I am asking [s]£160[/s] £150for it. I am also open to trade as it would be much easier to take/ship a bass although I don't need one at the moment. I think it won't be easy to ship it as I don't live in London anymore but the amp is still in London at home. So collection from London - Tottenham would be the best option. Trade options: - Acoustic or semi-acoustic basses - Ibanez SR series (preferably early ones) - Squier Jaguars and CV precisions - Yamaha BB series * These are the trade options come in to my mind but still let me know what you have got. Some cash can be added for the more valuable trade options of course. Here is the link from Roland's official website for specifications. http://www.gumtree.com/london/04/71849304.html This seems a good price for a 1980 USA Precision Bass. Colour looks rare too. As I dont have a good knowledge about precision basses I dont know if its all original. Just posted if any of the BCers interested in. p.s. "candy apple blue" sounds really weird though Cheers.
