Show me your 3 point replacement bridges hipshot/babicz
neepheid replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
Zoomed out, chrome hardware, but before I fitted the Supertone. Hope that helps piece the picture together. -

NR Thunderbird with chrome Supertone. Sorry the image is a bit painfully cropped... -
Zero Mod? Attaches with already existing screws in the pickguard and/or pickup. https://www.zero-mod.com/

I apologise, had a week off, and the week before I had to use a borrowed rig cos my amp died so I wanted the security blanket of a familiar bass. I will be taking the HB-50 out for its first live outing this weekend so I will report back soon.

No need to restrict it, was debating with myself whether or not a distinction needed to be made. Originals, I've seen it go various ways - with a songwriting duo where the drummer and I were sidemen ("if you want to write songs, go form another band" - I appreciated the honesty), to the more collaborative approach I'm used to these days with The Inevitable Teaspoons - where someone will bring in anything from the beginning of an idea to a mostly finished song and we all get to work on refining our parts and make suggestions about others. The collaborative approach is slower, but it's enjoyable, and it's a hobby so we're not exactly bothered if we only release an album once ever 6 years. In the covers band, we're all free to make suggestions, and while we all have a veto we don't tend to use it unless the song is obvious cheese, we try to think about songs from an audience point of view. I do play a couple of songs I can't abide, but it's not about me, the audiences love it and entertaining them is the primary reason for us doing it in the first place. Most suggestions get at least tried - sometimes they fall by the wayside because they sound naff in a single guitar situation, sometimes they'll get as far as a gig and fall flat on their faces, other times they'll naturally drift out of the setlist because we notice they're not doing so well or because we've got bored playing it, or replaced it with something better that does a similar job. There's no tinpot dictator or central figure - we all work together for the good of the show. We're as busy as we want to be so I'd like to think that the strategy works.

I use gigbags with decent padding, unless the bass came with a hard case, then I use that. I have experiemented with a hard foam case, but it is quite limited - can only really accept FSOs (Fender Shaped Objects).

Are you talking covers or originals? Or does it matter (other than there's an extra creative phase, licking a song idea into shape)?
-
At least they paid you (sounds like you got the agreed fee?)

Sorry folks, I might well have come down, but I ended up buying a car down south and driving it back up the road in between this and attending the SW Bash and 3 times damn near the length of the country in a month was enough for me. I will plan better next year and hopefully make both. Looks like you had a cracking day out.

It would have been awesome if they had been at your gig! But I mean in general, is the place more alive/buzzing since they took over Wrexham AFC? Any cascade of enthusiasm coming down into the local economy in general?
-
You benefit much from the Wrexham AFC/Rob 'n' Ryan effect?

Fake news, it's not even in Glasgow...

I used to run 2x EMG-HB (a 35P4 in a guitar humbucker sized housing) and an EMG-BQC control off a single 9V battery in my Les Paul without issue, if that helps?

Mrs. Neepheid is from Cumbernauld, but usually just says she's from Glasgow before elaborating if/when the need arises. It's easier, and... well... Cumbernauld

We've used Emubands in the past.

Sorry, can't help you - I wear glasses almost all the time. Sleeping, bathing, "swimming" are about the only times I can think of that they're not on my face. I don't even think about it - I've been wearing glasses since I was 8

Speaking as someone who owns a bass which came wired that way, I can tell you that it's the most underwhelming tonal difference I've ever heard. It's almost a DFA switch. I rewired it to be Series/Single/Parallel, at least that does something to the sound.
-
A lesson to everyone - if your MFD(s) sound weak then there's something wrong, because if they're working as they should, they should sound beastly.
-
Starting as late as I did.

I'm in the "whatever matches your shirt/phase of the moon/whim and fancy" camp. Take whichever one is saying "pick me" to you the loudest and enjoy!
-
Oh yeah, if I ever used both pickups together, I would find this most frustrating, but my bridge pickup is pretty much there for show. Hence why my "poker chip" is labelled DO (neck) and DO NOT (bridge). Note that, as Yoda says "there is no try" (because I don't use the middle setting at all - I've yet to find a bass where the middle setting isn't the worst one, to my ears the two pickups fight and suck the life out of each other, resulting in a rather characterless, plain tone which I do not enjoy).
-
Yup, standard Les Paul wiring, basically. That's what I have in my Les Paul bass, but with the addition of push/push on the tone pots for series/parallel.
-
You think that's shocking? I've owned 5 BBs and currently have none. I don't even deserve to live, let alone post in this thread...

Isn't that what a Hofner bass sounds like normally? (runs out the door followed by a barrage of Hofner basses being flung at him...)
