  1. Seeing as I don't teach anyone and play my own stuff half the time, I don't think terminology matters as long as I know what I'm doing Playing my JC or wunkay helps at least makes it unambiguous which pickup I'm using
  2. Yeah, come on Shaun!
  3. Not that this is particularly relevant to what you want but I just thought I'd mention the production king of options - the G&L L-2000/2500/ASAT. 18 different options (27 if modded) Passive, 2 band EQ pickup selector (back, front, both) series/parallel (can replace this with a 4PDT on/on/on switch for single coil/series/parallel) passive/active (line boost)/active with treble boost Three knobs, three switches. Much more than you wanted, but I thought I'd mention it in case it offered any ideas.
  4. Anecdotally, I read D'addario EXL170. https://www.bassesbyleo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1693&p=19796&hilit=Stock+strings#p19796 It's what my USA G&L came with too, so I guess it makes sense to use the same strings for all your basses regardless of where they're made and maximise economies of scale.
  5. There have been 3 types of bridge on Epiphone Thunderbirds. I'm pretty sure you're talking about the three point bridge (where the saddles are just sitting in the bridge plate and will fall out if the string is removed). Can you put up a picture of the bridge?
  6. Sounds legit to me, take your share. The songs wouldn't be the same without your input.
  7. Does he write the bass lines and tell you what to play?
  8. "Be with you shortly, just cooking up some bass lines"
  9. You after a particular colour? I've seen limited stocks of gold and red still going around... EDIT: Andertons have 1 red and 1 gold left. PMT have gold. Bax-shop has red. Thomann have black. No luck with green. Now suspecting that it's green you're after
  10. I was looking for something specific - I do not respect this Black Friday "tradition" at all, but Andertons are having a bit of a price blitz on G&L Tributes: https://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-dept/bass-guitars?#facet:3074457345616676675713876327111710511697114115&productBeginIndex:0&facetLimit:&orderBy:3&pageView:grid&minPrice:&maxPrice:&pageSize:& £250 for a G&L Tribute JB-2? Not my thing at all, but 7 lucky folk are going to get a bargain. When the prices go back to normal you could probably sell it second hand for £250!
  11. What a bummer! Get some Lemsip down you and hope you can make it through. Good luck!
  12. Bands are like buses? Good on you, hope it all works out.
  13. Come on @Fishman, don't leave us hanging...
  14. At £250 could you stand a Tribute? You could probably sell it for that when you finally find a USA one... https://www.andertons.co.uk/g-l-tribute-jb-2-bass-in-sonic-blue-clear-satin-neck-brazilian-cherry-fingerboard
  15. If anyone's after their current stock of Olympic White/black guard/cherry fingerboard/blocks Tribute LB-100s, Andertons have chopped a ton off the price - down to £349. I think that's a steal for such a bass. https://www.andertons.co.uk/g-l-tribute-lb-100-bass-in-olympic-white-3-ply-black-pickguard-vintage-tint-gloss-neck-with-brazilian-cherry-fingerboard If I wasn't so struck by the colour of the impending models and so determined to get the Emerald Blue I'd have found a way to jump on this. Help me get my blue one by clearing out the white ones
  16. Grateful for what I have but still a bit sad that no-more will a thread like this be pounced on within 2 mins with ten people immediately recommending obbm It was as predictable as gravity.
  17. In the 'Spoons, everyone has equal credit. Sure, most songs are kicked off by someone (generally bringing the lyrics too) but we all contribute to the finished product and we don't rank the importance of the contributions. Unfortunately, this gets a bit messy when people leave (only one so far), so some songs on our upcoming album will be credited to "The Inevitable Teaspoons + A. N. Other". For when they want their quid share of whatever Spotify pays us
  18. I knew there would be times I would not enjoy the post-obbm cables world. This is one of those times. Having said that, ha ha, in your face, I have 4 obbm cables (a 2m, 2x3m and a 5m super deluxe one with muting jacks) - 6 if you count the speakon anaconda and the pedal interconnect he was also responsible for - and I fully expect that these will be the last cables I'll ever need. I feel better now
  19. My first Honda Civic was painted in "Deep Adriatic Pearl". Pearlescent dark blue, basically. My current car (Mitsubishi Colt) is "Spicy Red". Quite what makes a colour "spicy" is beyond me, and no I haven't tried licking the paint to estimate the Scoville rating
  20. How are we supposed to help with the scant information you've given us? We need a bit more than "loose" and "they won't keep things in tune"...
  21. All the best, I'm sure you'll smash it. The gig, not the EUB
  22. Are you averse to swapping out the neck yourself? Then you could buy whichever P bass you wanted then swap for a separately procured J neck if you wished
