  1. I thought this was going to be another G&L headstock thread
  2. That Oceanic Turquoise with tort pickguard combo is almost identical to the Emerald Blue G&L Tribute LB-100. Stopped me in my tracks because of the similarity! I usually prefer rosewood or darker over maple boards but that does look good.
  3. Anyone in/near Aberdeen need a box to ship a bass? The inner box held a G&L Tribute LB-100 and there's an outer box which it fits into. Any P bass or similar should fit in there no problem. It's been hanging around the house for 6 months. I think I'm keeping the bass EDIT - been disposed of now.
  4. They never really appealed to me. My subconscious kept me from trying them and I only recently began realising why: I don't like bridge pickups AT ALL (yes one can get an HH or HS model but does anyone have/play such a bass and ONLY use the neck pickup?) I've gone off active electronics in a big way. Only one of my basses is active and next year I am seriously considering making it passive again. I don't really like how they look. If I could describe P basses unkindly as the "agricultural" bass then in my world the Stingray similarly would be described as the "agricultural" active bass. No disrespect intended to Stingray fans, you're not wrong - this is just my personal opinion.
  5. A hot and sweaty one last night at The Rusty Nail in Aberdeen with my covers band Nine Lives. Good turnout with plenty folk getting up and having a dance/general move around to the music. Got saved by the singer from being completely wiped out by a drunk lady overestimating her powers of balance and toppling towards me fast. Singer grabbed her outstreched hand as she and gravity conspired to make me part of the table behind me. The perils of performing at floor level! She managed to stand on my tuner pedal as she bumped into me, briefly knocking me out of the game physically and sonically but we kept going. Still, she continued to be rather annoying througout the gig until some of the rest of the giggoers "suggested" to her that she leave. There's always one, right? Played really well and got a lot of good comments afterwards. Played the Jack Casady through the 2x1x10" frankenrig.
  6. Ebola-tastic!
  7. If the Jolly Green Giant played bass ...
  8. Blasphemy! Burn the witch! Etc.
  9. Almost 11 year old Zombie thread - braaaaaaaaains!
  10. So you should be - go and watch something that the body of the kirk approves of, now!
  11. Watching someone open a box and remove the contents. That's entertainment! I think I'd rather stab myself in the eye with a fork. Maybe I should film that and post it on YT - I bet it would be more entertaining, in a peurile, Jackass kind of way.
  12. Whoa, these guys need to get some https on the go. I'd be ordering this over the phone.
  13. Oh yeah, I forgot about the grip on the edge it affords. Last time I used it, I offset the ridiculousness of having a sweatband half way up my arm by wearing sunglasses and a hat indoors. Was also a cheeky way of one-upping the bass player in the band on before us, who was merely wearing sunglasses. I'm so petty
  14. If I may offer a tip from a long time Jack Casady player - get a stretchy wrist sweat band but pull it up your arm to where your arm meets the edge of the body. Looks ridiculous, but worth it for the improved comfort
  15. I've been mulling over retooling my only active bass to be passive. Turns out you don't need to be active to sound huge, and I never use the flexibility that the 3 band with mid sweep affords me. Don't see the point in it - set and forget in the same way as I have passive tone control all the way up. I'm aff it this year, but maybe next year...
  16. It's been the band's nickname for me for some time now. Thanks Jack - you play better than you sign your name, that's for sure
  17. A total bust. Booked to play at a football club out in the sticks. Not one person turned up. Played most of the first set to two staff, then they came up and told us they were just going to close up. Paid us anyway, and for what it's worth said they liked us. Weird limbo-like feeling on the way home having played half a gig and getting home 2.5 hours earlier than expected. Seems that there isn't more to supporting your local wee football team than attending matches Oh well, these things happen.
  18. Pre-hiring firing!
  19. +1 for Roqsolid. I've had one of their covers for my Redsub 1x10 combo for almost a decade now. It has survived all this time, 100s of gigs, velcro in the retaining flap is still great after being opened and closed several times a week and even survived a car crash. That last part is not a joke - the impact did make a slight tear where the amp corner tried to burst through but it held firm and continues to protect my amp wearing its war wound with pride.
  20. Surely it should be on the end for poking errant guitarists in the ribs?
  21. What surprises me about this thread is that it took until page 2 for someone to have a moan about the G&L headstock
  22. Ha, I see what you did there
  23. I am 5'8" (or 9, I care not - a career in basketball was not on the cards for me, put it that way). Pretty average/short bloke. Here's me being dwarfed by an Epi Jack Casady and not giving two hoots about it... What's going on with that left hand? What kind of noodly crap am I playing? Look at that pained look of concentration!
  24. Sorry, I seem to have wandered into sockchat.co.uk by mistake
