1. Gibson EB-0 - not 3 - why brighten things up (slightly) with that bridge pickup?
2.
Last thing, I placed an OG decal on the headstock. It took a great deal of soul searching before I did this. Strictly speaking I shouldn't have as I never made the neck from scratch but as this is a tour bass I'm doing a bit of shameless self promo.
I think the work on the body more than justifies labelling it as one of yours. I wouldn't worry about it.
3. Try looking for "fingerboard blank" Here's a starter for ten: http://www.tonetechluthiersupplies.co.uk/guitar-making-timber/fingerboards.html
4. I'm all about the furry hat at the moment. Also been seen with the pork pie: And a daft cap:
5.
My personal faves are the Fender MIJ JB62m. A medium scale jazz with a smaller body too. IIRC the Epiphone Jack Casady bass is a 32" and that is a cracking bass it's a shame you need to carry it in it's hardcase.
No, the JC is 34" scale. It's difficult but not impossible to find soft cases for them.
6.
Motivations are irrelevant to the issue of whether the artist is losing anything. There could be a million reasons why someone might copy music instead of paying for it (more likely a different reason why millions of people copy music) but none of them make any difference. The point is that copying music doesn't mean the artist loses anything. I would suggest that, historically, music sales may have been higher because people would buy music they didn't feel great about because there was no alternative. I'd bet we all have records we've bought, played once and never played again. Well once upon a time that would have been a sale. These days we still listen to loads of music once, but we do it through spotify or youtube and if we don't like it we move on. Yet we still buy the stuff we really like. What has an independent, self-funded release got to do with anything? All that matters is whether people like the music or not.
You were the one who brought up the music industry in the first place, hence my offering of an example outside of that. But whatever, I think you're wrong, I'm entitled to think you're wrong, and you are entitled to feel the same towards me.
7.
That's what the music industry want you to believe and how they calculate their 'losses', but I don't see it myself. If I have no intention of buying a piece of music then I'm not an 'opportunity to earn' as far as that artist is concerned. If I then copy that music for free, the artist has lost nothing. I wouldn't have bought it anyway but no one else is being deprived of the opportunity to buy it for themselves. So how has the artist lost anything?
If you have "no intention of buying" it then why do you still harbour an intention to acquire it? What about independent releases? What has the music industry at large got to do with some poor wee band that has invested their own hard cash into getting a CD out there? Are you going to acquire that rather than buy it?
8.
In fact I can't imagine why any active bass wouldn't actually have a switch to isolate the battery.
We're all different. I can't imagine why people have this desire to leave their bass plugged in all the time, but that's just me
9. Right now? Anthrax's cover of "Pipeline" by The Chantays.
10. Les Paul basses are ace. Did you find black pickup rings in the end or did you paint 'em? As a semi-relevant aside, I miss my souped up Epi LP Standard Schniff. The one that got away. I recently asked the guy I sold it to how he was getting on with it and of course he's loving it. Could mod another one I suppose. Sorry for the thread derail. Back on topic!
11.
Unfortunately it's not even remotely analogous because copying music doesn't deprive the rightful owner of anything, unlike your BMW example. If you had a Star Trek style replicator gizmo and could create a BMW from thin air, what harm would you be doing to anyone else?
You may not have deprived them of anything physical, but you have still deprived them of an opportunity to earn.
12. I wouldn't trust her with a bass setup, would you?
13.
In the end we all probably hear what we want to though.
That's all folks!
14.
The former example is labor, a set up is not. The later is example is what I challenge. A "pro" isn't going to do it any better than any other proper set up. You don't need a professional carpenter to put a nail in the wall. : )
Some people drive nails through water pipes or electrical cables. Some people miss the stud they thought they had located (or more likely didn't bother locating in the first place) and make a mess of their plasterboard. These people need a professional joiner to put a nail in their walls, yes. Not everyone's handy like you.

16. I just taught myself to set up basses (and by extension, guitars). I perceived it as being less hassle than finding someone to do it for me.
17. This is like trying to define the area of a circle in a world where the value of pi is not a constant.
18.
Surely Scotland's not that bad ?
Not Scotland - Aberdeen - people are allowed to speak ill of their hometown in a jokey way, no?
19. Still no sign of them in the grey fortress of doom
20. Audacity (on a computer, not iPad) ought to do a decent job for you - just checked it now. Load up mp3/whatever, look in Effect menu - Change Pitch
21.
You never hear anyone talk about the "Fodera" sound.
I think that's because not many people have heard it? They're so expensive that there can't be that many out there. I had a quick shot of a Ritter once and I can't remember how it sounded because I was scared to even breathe on it. Pretty sure it sounded like a bass though
22. I suppose people will always try to relate unmeasurable things like timbre back to familiar things. Reminds me of the Volkswagen advert a while back where the car salesman shuts the car door with a thunk and says "Just like a Golf". As far as I'm concerned (or care), any reasonably well made car door these days will close with a satisfying thunk. The doors on my first Mk2 Fiesta used to clang! Similarly, all a bass has to do is sound "good" - and that's my personal definition of "good" which I doubt even I can explain in enough detail to be meaningful or useful.
23. Rosewood is harder/denser than maple. If it's density/hardness that's causing brightness then ebony boards must absolutely zing! There are factors at work here several orders of magnitude more influential than what kind of wood the fingerboard is. I personally don't worry about it and treat it purely as an aesthetic choice.
24. The BC collective would need much more info to say with any certainty I reckon. Close ups of headstock, neck, body, bridge, pickups, the body binding and all that jazz.
