1.
I guess I wouldn't leave feedback cause I don't even know where you'd do it. Here's the thing with feedback though...I find it's either too flattering or too dismissive. In other words, most of it is useless. If someone is easily impressed or someone just wants to knock you down what's to be gained? Few people can critique music objectively, since taste, is subjective. I'll say this about what I heard. It's nice enough. Well perfomred. Professional. Bass playing sounds good. I didn't find it especially captivating, but it's hard to get into music you never heard before. The bass had too much low end. I get that you want it up front but if it's loud and boomy it just sounds amateurish. The kick drum also shared the sonic space of the bass ( a boost around 300hz) and that made things more woofy. It's not the type of thing that's getting record contracts, not to mention the age factor. But at a certain point, music has to be about making art and/or entertaining others. Getting angry because they aren't paying attention isn't the best PR toward getting more fans. That's my feedback. In part.
We're talking about the feedback forum, where people leave a report on how their financial transaction on here went down, not leaving feedback about music In this respect, I think it's perfectly acceptable to get grumbly about people who neglect to leave a note to say how awesomely quick you are to post stuff, how bombproof your packaging is and what an all round great guy/gal you are.
 2. I don't. The only counting I sometimes do is bars/riffs so that outros are the right length and I can give the required nod when it's time to end.
 3. Kill switch? Handy if you want it to be quiet but you don't want to mess up your volume settings if you've got 'em set.
 4.
But isn't that the whole point of asking this in a forum, no one person has a definitive answer, but here you can canvass the opinions of many people and form an idea based on a larger sample.
I'm saying it's pointless speculation. In my opinion, each instrument is a separate case and its got the square root of naff all to do with where it's made. The only person whose opinion matters is the person playing the instrument at the time as far as I'm concerned. Try it. If you like it, buy it. If not, don't. For me it really is that simple.
 5. It's the same old "opinion expressed as fact" routine that makes me mad. I'm willing to bet that not one single person on this forum has the statistical overview of the entire output of Fender Mexico necessary to be able to make cast iron statements about their overall quality relative to anything. I'm happy with my one and only Mexican Fender, so according to how some people operate around here I'll extrapolate that out to mean that all Mexican Fenders are great. An individual instrument is either good or bad when inspected in isolation. The usual blanket statements insult my intelligence and are little more than borderline racist hogwash.
 6.
Stereotypes exist for a reason.
Mostly to unfairly pigeonhole people or things without due consideration or justification it would seem. For the record I know lovely keyboard players, modest guitarists who (and I quote) "get bored with playing solos", drummers who can play quietly with excellent range in their dynamics, singers who help out with load in/out beyond carrying a microphone and bass players who are rude and arrogant. There's a few in the eye of the stereotypes. They aren't in the slightest bit useful, except for possibly creating clichéd jokes which I must confess to having a guilty laugh at, because I'm not perfect and all that. I suppose I'm a spotty, polyester and pocket protector wearing herbert with the fashion sense of a wombat and the social skills of a cheese sandwich because I work in IT, right?
 7.
The contour and colour controls are there on my HB promethean clone amp as well. I have found the best settings for them are to push the little button above them that turns the twatting things off. Looks like that option isn't there on this though.
Respectfully, I disagree. I find the contour works best if it's on and set about 12:30, because it's a harsh, mid heavy beast without it. The colour is great if you want a quick, footswitchable change to some old school thump, as it's just a treble cut. Each to their own though
 8.
Great. Can you come and fix my bog, then..?
Sorry mannie, plumbing is not part of my skill set. I'm more professional computing, coupled with amateur electronics and joinery.
 9.
Yes we have all been there! Dealing with the ego and temprement of the "front man", battling with the guitar players volume and the feckin drummers lack of dynamics! The keyboard players strange habits to mention a few! Yet us bass players, the glue between the drums and rest of the band always seem to be the good guy! The one that just wants to enjoy it!! Thoughts?
While I do agree that in all my bands I've always been the "useful" one (always got tool kit, spare batteries etc., know computers so reskinned MySpace pages (remember that?) and did website maintenance), I think that's more to do with the person I am rather than my role in the band.
 10.
Where is the Coronado made?
In a factory
 11. I don't care. I've never cared that much about amps. Give me an amp that is loud enough and got enough EQ smarts to be heard amongst the sonic chaos that is live music then I'm a happy bunny.
 12. I prefer toothpicks/cocktail sticks because they're harder than matches. Didn't know anything about the chemicals, every day's a school day
 13. Well, that saved me the bother of making a thread waxing lyrical about how cool it is to be in my band. Glad to see it's not just me. Feels good when you're all pulling in the same direction, doesn't it?
 14.
Does it still have that characteristic harsh G&L top end or does removing the preamp and having a passive wiring loom sweeten it to a more p-bass type thing? There'd be a few unsightly holes in the body too Although...keep both pups, rewire it to be V/V/T and rewire 2 switches to be coil selectors (one for each pup)...that might have possibilities and only leaves one teeny hole in the body!
The only harsh top end I've ever had is when the "treble boost" switch is engaged, which sounds horrible to me. Other than that, I haven't heard this harshness you have described. You can switch the preamp off. I rarely use it and have my L-2000 running passive all the time. No harshness here, but your ears are different to mine
 15.
Just gigged my RedSub head + cab tonight, happy as hell with it. Had a blast watching the band before mine whose bassist has a Fender Aerodyne Jazz (which I so desperately want) and an Orange Tiny Terror + matching cab, it sounded so warm and punchy, kind of made me want to caress a pair of tits somewhat vigorously. The RedSub definitely has a solid mid to high end punch to it, I had to whack the bass up a bit on the bass boost but the tone is 100% usable. The 1 x 15 cab is fairly light, it's less than half the weight of my old Crate combo which I used to lug around (it was about 95lb). It's nice to be able to carry a cab with just one hand. I'd obviously prefer the Orange stuff, but at a fraction of the price and weight I'm certainly not complaining.
The contour control will help you tame that. Can well scoop it out if you feel that way inclined. I have the contour engaged and at about 12:30, but have a play with it and see what works best for you.
 16.
Without Leo Fender we'd all be playing Gibson's or, even worse, Rickenbacker's. Nooooooooo!
Heh. However, if there was nothing to fight against/compete with then there's no way that Gibson would have gone completely mad in the 70s and 80s and produced some of my favourite basses if they didn't have to (i.e. if Thunderbirds were the #1 best selling bass in the world). So, thanks Leo et al.
 17.
Tried capacitor the other way around, still no joy.
Oops, electrolytic capacitors are polarised. Which means one of these times you had it the wrong way round. You put 'em in the wrong way and they might bulge, split or even pop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-RZ5RTAdSg Be careful!
 18. Great gig last night, first one with the band up to full strength. Private party in a barn in the middle of nowhere. Managed to perform a new song without cocking it up. Incidentally this is the first song I've ever written, so really pleased with that. Got some folk up and dancing so can't argue with that, good audience reaction. Happy to get gig #1 out of the way, it's full steam ahead now
 19. "Faster" neck is all about what you like the feel of. I find thin, spindly Jazz necks "slower" because I make more mistakes on them. Neck's got to have some heft/bulk to feel comfy to me. Only you can decide what feels right, and what feels right will be the "fastest" for you.
 20.
Are they short scale?
Yup, both 30" according to the specs on the Fender site.
 21. I guess that's the official cat out of the bag then: http://www.fender.co...d-cherry-burst/ http://www.fender.co...color-sunburst/ And shows you all I know - both short scale at 30". I thought the Starcaster might be longer. Oh well. Can't wait for these to find their way into shops.
 22. Somewhat official looking pics obtained from an eBay seller who is offering them for pre-sale: Really quite liking that cherry burst Starcaster, but there's something about that Coronado too. Can't wait for them to appear in shops, definitely will give them a bash.
 23. If the pots have their value stamped/printed on them then they might have a letter as well. A = audio/log, B = linear. C is reverse log, but that's another story you don't need to worry about that in a Jazz bass, but G&L tinkerers will know exactly what I'm on about So it'll be A500 for a 500k log pot, or B250 for a 250k linear pot etc.
