1.
Looks good, I haven't seen t-bird pups like that before!?
That's because they're EB (2013/14) pickups, with the coil split switching moved from push/pull pots to individual switches.
2.
You know the thing, music with a fashion and a scene. Can't think what the last one was, probably Gunge (Grunge) but that was 20 years ago. The Chav thing didn't have an associated music, but it's more than 7 years ago since that started. What's new?
What's new? Too much choice, that's (relatively) new which neatly torpedoes any chance of a new sub-culture appearing - too many splinter groups, too much stuff out there, the market is flooded and nobody cares. Or at least it's harder to get through to enough people who do care. I don't shout loud enough and I'm not proactive enough to make a success of music, so just as well it's a hobby of mine otherwise I'd probably starve!
3. Popcorn time...
4.
Aha! This goes a long way towards explaining why the bridge on my L1505 stays in place with just 2 screws, even with 5 strings top-loaded into it...
You might want to read this: http://www.bassesbyleo.com/l2500_bridge_mod.html
5. I don't read so good, I thought the whole bass was a G&L. Nothing to see here
6. Repositioning the bridge is going to be made more difficult because the G&L Saddle Lock bridge has a sizeable route made into the body for a protrusion from the base of the bridge.
7. YAS, I have my lost dog back with me!
8.
Also: Rickenbackers have no low end. Ashdowns are ill-defined and muddy. Gibson have never made a decent bass.
I'm going to assume this is a critique on the whole "opinion as fact" thing. If I'm wrong about that, shut your piehole
9. I think it used to be mine
10. Damn, beaten to it. Looks exactly like a BB614 I had a few years back: It's not a BB1024 - it would also have blades on the P pickup, not individual pole pieces, and I'm pretty sure all 424/1024/2024 basses have a plain headstock because they like to show off the 5 piece maple/mahogany(nato on the 424) neck.
11. Yup, performed the washer trick on a Yamaha BB450 which I resurrected/restored. Must have been a couple of years now with no ill effects. I think I'll play it at band rehearsal tonight
12. I dunno where to start. None of the options in this poll are applicable to Aberdeen. We're spoiled up here with music venues which have house PA and backline and a separate circuit of pubs which put on cover bands who are expected to come fully equipped. We've never had it so convenient. We get paid peanuts as original bands, but hey ho.
13.
Does anyone?
I don't know what I play and I would love for someone to give me some pithy, all-encompassing term to genre me neatly. Go!
14. Y-bomb in Wardour Street! Awesome
15. You'd get plus points from me for having an unusual choice of bass on stage. I love a bit of gear spotting but it gets a bit tedious when you see the Nth P or J. Also, considering the basses I own and enjoy, I doubt I'd have ever ventured on stage if I worried about what people think of my choice of bass
16. You haven't said if you're writing songs. I recently decided to slim things down from 2 bands to one and I stayed with the one i was writing for/with, despite the other one being busier in terms of gigs.
17.
T-Birds are just cool.....nice one! I really fancy a non reverse body, anyone tried one?
I have one in Pelham blue, and I enjoy playing it very much. Chunkier neck than on a reverse Thunderbird, which suits me fine. Doesn't look like anything else, also a plus in my opinion
18.
For those up in the central belt Moffat is 2 mins of the motorway a doddle to get to.
Indeed. That's my favourite part of the journey - really not used to more than 2 lanes in each direction - I'm a country loon!
19. You guys who tweak and twiddle at things DURING a gig, between songs - my hat's off to you. I turn the bass up, use neck pickup where there's a choice, and tweak the amp so that I can hear myself. I can't handle more than that, I'm afraid, I'm too busy remembering what the hell I'm supposed to be playing - and I wrote some of it!
20. I've only used 'em a couple of times but I've had no issues with them. Took one of their extended warranties on my RedSub combo, but haven't needed to invoke it so can't comment there.
21. How do they attach to the bass? A clamp with soft jaws or something?
22.
They never have a convincing go at trying new stuff. It's always a bit half-hearted, try something a bit different (not too radical, stick an active preamp in a Jazz for example) then if it doesn't take off in six months, ditch it.
Always? The Performer was a pretty radical departure from the norm, but it was ditched pretty quickly, I'll give you that
23.
Bwahaha. Fender are just plain lazy by relying on less than five core products for the last fifty or so years. They need a fecking kick in the pants to jimmy them up a bit. Gibson are just as guilty.
People give them crap for trying new stuff. People give them crap for sticking with the same old safe stuff. Can't win.
24. Isn't that lucky that no-one bit? Glad you're getting along better now. Gibson bass in "not crap" shocker, eh?
25.
i have had my mates gibson sg bass in my cupboard for almost a year, never played it, diddnt like em. i took it to practice, wow, the tone from the neck pu is probably what i jave been searching for from year dot, neck feels great, the bass feels really sensitive, inlike my fenders. now, heres the problem; im stocky, the wife would say i could loose a few pounds, the sg bass therefore looks like a silly little imitation girly bass. damn, what sould i do, go with the sg and face a lifetime of mocking from my fellow muscians (the guitarist feels particularly proud to 'have a larger one for once') or keep searching for the one? indeed, does anyone ever find the one? yours confused...... andytoad
Are we talking about a modern Gibson SG bass (three knobs, volume/volume/tone)? If so, the neck pickup is not a traditional sidewinder mudbucker, but a Gibson TB+ (humbucker, blades, ceramic magnets) masquerading as one, complete with fake pole pieces. I know this because I took the one out of my Midtown Standard. Also, see http://music-electro...474/#post334486 Incidentally, that's my shout for a bigger bass using the same pickup jammed up against the heel of the neck, either a Midtown Standard or a Midtown Signature. Sure, it's chambered, but I doubt it'll make a lot of difference. The bigger body and 34" scale will make it feel a bit more in proportion
