Oh, absolutely, every time.

I suspect this thread may be short (Tonerider or Warman, EOT) but I thought I'd ask anyway in case anyone had any other bright ideas. I'm putting a project together with an aggressively low budget and I'm looking for a great sounding but inexpensive pickup. My current thoughts turn towards the Tonerider Duke (a mildly overwound 12k Alnico 5 job - https://tonerider.com/products/the-duke), but I'm happy to listen to any other ideas you might have! Over to you...

What's the best stand for a Jazz Bass?
neepheid replied to EssentialTension's topic in General Discussion
I have used both the Hercules and K&M on awkward shaped basses (Gibson RD/Explorer/T-bird). They're both good but the K&M is telescopic and packs down a lot smaller than the Hercules without having to dismantle it. However, the Hercules grabby mechanism is superior IMO. Also the Hercules is a bit heavier than the K&M, so it's less likely to be knocked over which sometimes happens to me with the K&M during an unclean dismount of the bass. I don't play Jazz basses, but if you want a compact stand, the Rotosound RGS-200 works with a Jaguar, which is offset. Just needs to sit it a little to the left in the stand. Observe the difference compared to a Sire D5 (which is not offset). -
Some of the limited edition have leaked across the pond! Purple sparkle is already gone, but they've still got blue... https://www.musicstore.com/en_GB/GBP/Epiphone-Thunderbird-64-Brunswick-Blue-Sparkle/art-BAS0012594-001

How was my gig last night? Cancelled, that's what. Singer got the lurgy and lost her voice, couldn't get a dep at such short notice. Ahh well, at least we've got next weekend off so she's got plenty time to recover. I suppose that's the bugger about being a singer, unlike other instruments you can't just swap larynxes if it goes on the wonk.

Do it, once you get the sensible use case of being able to walk out front to check the live mix, you can go have fun. A heap of folk being sticks in the mud and staying through in the lounge bar? Go and annoy them! I once went on a walkabout round the entire bar for a laugh. People listen with their eyes...

Only tangentially related to this discussion, but I'm having a lot of fun with my Squier Jaguar H. The only thing it shares with this one is a body and headstock shape though.

It'll look way effin' cooler

Got a link? I'm perhaps not as averse to my 20th Anniversary TRC as you, but it'd be nice to have the option...

They should all be a standard size, so it shouldn't be too much bother - especially if you're going solderless and using all the EMG gubbins. The GZRs are well thought of, I have no personal experience of them so all I have is internet hearsay and gossip. I will say I've never read/heard anyone outright say awful things about them, put it that way.

I must have got lucky - mine was prone to a bit of a flirt with gravity when it arrived, but adding the high mass bridge and the chonkster of a pickup seems to have tamed it somewhat - it won't stay at 45 degrees, but it's holding a position above the horizontal now (using a Neotech Mega strap - grippy, 4" wide at widest point, neoprene)

Suppose I'll add this to the pile - who hasn't modded one of these? It's my first 32" scale (that I remember) and has been modded thus: Ibanez CAP double humbucker (from an ATK810) Series/single/parallel switch added Cheapo Amazon high mass bridge (not that I buy into that, but the original BBOT had a rattly spring which was annoying me) Black/white/black pickguard made by earlpilanz "Block inlay" stickers

Been through all that rigmarole (except the video) - their offer was derisory. -

Radio silence for 2 days, very inefficient. So I get my webchat on. They still don't seem to have it yet (although they can see it was picked up from me and got to wherever it was supposed to go in the UK a couple of days later, so at least that's something) and suddenly it's 20 working days to process a return, not 15 as mentioned in all the emails about it thus far. OK then, you might want to edit your emails to reflect this. Well, I've shaken the tree, hopefully some money will fall out of it soon. Must confess, this faff is beginning to sour my opinion of Thomann - not to the point of boycott or anything, but eye narrowing is going on. -
Drool. Making me sad that my 20th Anniversary JC is unwell though. Feeding back like a mofo at the slightest provocation. Tightened everything up that could rattle or move, still bad. Suspect pickup or coil has become microphonic as all hell. I'm intending to do gear abstinence next year, so unless I can convince the abstinent massive that purchasing what I need to fix things is within the rules, then my JC will be mothballed for 2025

John made me a couple of patch cables to help me tidy up my pedalboard. Top service, received the cables in 2 days. Excellent work, keen price, fantastic stuff. I'll be back.

RIght, last go for a while. Just finished some tidying up with a couple of @Chienmortbb patch cables. That's me done now (ha ha).

"The estimated return delivery can take approximately 15 working days" Well, that's been 3 weeks and I haven't heard a peep. Have given them a prod. -
I think if you go into this wireless game expecting it to sound exactly the same as wired, you'd better come prepared to spend. TL:DR you are being too analytical.

It's All About the Mods! (Show/Tell Your Modded Basses)

Where are you finding all these Lo-Z pickups? Do you have a scrappie's yard of Les Paul bass husks somewhere? -
I thought it was satire...

Right, that's a wrap. I'm really pleased with how this turned out. It will be known henceforth as the ATJ (Jaguar with ATK pickup). Summary of mods: Pickup replaced with Ibanez CAP double humbucker Bass rewired with a parallel/single/series switch Bridge replaced Black pickguard fitted Block "inlays" (stickers) added I can hear why people hold the Ibanez ATK in such high regard - this is a fine sounding pickup, very punchy and authorative, loads of power, but tight and defined at the same time. Played it at a gig this Saturday past and it was glorious. I really like the 32" scale, it's not noticeably toy feeling like a 30" scale, just subtly different, maybe slightly easier to play, maybe it's all in my head. But it plays really well, that I can say. Fitting the chunkier pickup and bridge seems to have removed some of the natural tendency of this bass to neck dive, as a bonus. TL:DR - it's a big improvement over the original, IMO.
