1. These are great straps. May I be next in line, should a sale not materialise with the poster above?
2.
PS: Neep, if big ears aren't doing you any good ill happily take your poor RD for my LP
Heh, nice try but the RD has the Gibson branded Schaller BMs and they're fine by me, just don't like those Grovers
3.
if they switched those Gotoh tuners for the Schaller's i may have considered it. [sub]i've had my days of 2+2 headstocks and little plastic rings snapping or replacing tuners ("(-.-)[/sub]
Heh, another point where opinion is divided, I happen to like the mini buttons, I think the latest issue full size Grovers look like the kind of giant ears that kids at school get grief from their peers for Gibson don't seem to want to use Schaller anymore, BMs stick out a little less than the Grovers.
4. Giant Steps is my second favourite Boo Radleys album.
5. Matthew Norrie, Aberdeen, Aberdeen (Aberdeen is its own council area. A lot of people put Aberdeenshire. This is technically incorrect )
6.
I think I'd still take the Jackson, if just to avoid the 3-point bridge. The one I'm looking at is the 2013 EB, but in the smoked sunburst - which has yet to arrive on these shores, also.
The three point bridge is easily worked around. There will be a Hipshot Supertone on every flat top three point wearing Gibson I ever own The EB eh? Dunno where I stand on it. Nice to see them try something new, but I'm not sure I like the looks. I am warming to the idea of the G-3 reissue, but would have a 5ply bwbwb pickguard made, single ply looks cheap and not quite right, to me at least.
7. I'm up for it, should it make it all the way up to Aberdeen
8. Barrel jacks go bad. There isn't really a fix to them, being all enclosed. You can get a suitable replacement from Maplin (Maplin code N39GB, Neutrik NYS2203) for £2.99. You have to cut off the cable grip bit, and make sure you solder the wires back in exactly the same order as before, or else the battery will drain constantly and you'll be replacing it every month or so regardless of how much you use it.
9. Was it wise to make it the same day as the Moffat bash? I do entertain ideas of attending other bashes and this one is probably the second nearest one to Aberdeen, but it's no much use if they're going to clash. I'm good, but I'm not two places at once good
10. It would be nice to have a definitive essay on the subject, although if the mystery and speculation were squashed then there might be a reduction in threads and replies on here
11.
Do you have contact details for Steven I can't get in touch with him the mail address I have is bouncing back.
I don't have an email address, but I've sent him a message on bookface that you've been looking for him. Hopefully he'll get back to you.
12. Bump to say am open to a straight sale now. No, I still haven't done the soundclips, sorry
13. Ooh, I know the answer to this one ... ME!
14. Are you talking about the Schaller 3D? If so, doesn't it match up directly with holes 1, 3 and 5 on a standard Fender bass?
15. When I saw the thread title, I thought it was about the agents of the taxman
16. I have used frankly awful equipment in the past (especially when I was younger) and there is no way I want to return to those days. I'm not obsessive about it (my left and right speaker are wired using different types of wire, for instance - oh, the blasphemy!) but to my ears what I have sounds good (Marantz PM-48 amp, Marantz CD-63mkII CD player, Marantz graphic equaliser thingybob whose model number evades me, Mission 730 speakers), and I wouldn't want something that sounds less smooth, less "spacious" or basically just plain good than what I have currently. You can't have moments like chuckling with your other half about the stereo separation while listening to "Unsquare Dance" by the Dave Brubeck Quartet on a crappy little speaker dock thing.
17. My wife has been laying hints that my separates are taking up a bit too much space in the living room, to be honest I wouldn't mind trimming down the size, but I don't want to trim down the quality. Unfortunately, the universal rule of consumer electronics applies: small + good = £££
18. Favourite combo? Me and my drummer, Chris Favourite famous combo? I'll tell you when we're famous
19.
Thanks Neepheid, haven't looked at the Victory before, what's the nut width on them?
44mm or thereabout. Definitely not a knitting needle
20. UPS via Interparcel has been my go-to service for a few years now, never had a problem. And now I've jinxed it
21. If I may be my predictable self, Gibson Victory, available '81-'86. You might be able to find an '83 Grabber/G-3/Ripper but it was right at the end of their production run.
22.
I didn't see it last time round and wouldn't of thought of searching for it , seems to be a fair few people commenting on it so not all bad !
Well, if you believe everything you read then I'm a profligate, capitalist pigdog for having the audacity to own more than one bass, and an irresponsible, un professional idiot for not taking a backup bass to the gig.
23. I have nothing to add here, other than the usual answer to the question "am I overthinking this?" is "yes"
