Tried capacitor the other way around, still no joy.
Oops, electrolytic capacitors are polarised. Which means one of these times you had it the wrong way round. You put 'em in the wrong way and they might bulge, split or even pop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-RZ5RTAdSg Be careful!

Great gig last night, first one with the band up to full strength. Private party in a barn in the middle of nowhere. Managed to perform a new song without cocking it up. Incidentally this is the first song I've ever written, so really pleased with that. Got some folk up and dancing so can't argue with that, good audience reaction. Happy to get gig #1 out of the way, it's full steam ahead now

"Faster" neck is all about what you like the feel of. I find thin, spindly Jazz necks "slower" because I make more mistakes on them. Neck's got to have some heft/bulk to feel comfy to me. Only you can decide what feels right, and what feels right will be the "fastest" for you.

Fender to finally make the Starcaster bass and reissue the Coronado?

I guess that's the official cat out of the bag then: http://www.fender.co...d-cherry-burst/ http://www.fender.co...color-sunburst/ And shows you all I know - both short scale at 30". I thought the Starcaster might be longer. Oh well. Can't wait for these to find their way into shops. -
Fender to finally make the Starcaster bass and reissue the Coronado?

Somewhat official looking pics obtained from an eBay seller who is offering them for pre-sale: Really quite liking that cherry burst Starcaster, but there's something about that Coronado too. Can't wait for them to appear in shops, definitely will give them a bash. -
If the pots have their value stamped/printed on them then they might have a letter as well. A = audio/log, B = linear. C is reverse log, but that's another story you don't need to worry about that in a Jazz bass, but G&L tinkerers will know exactly what I'm on about So it'll be A500 for a 500k log pot, or B250 for a 250k linear pot etc.

I cannot speak with any authority about any tonal, structural or otherwise benefit of a single cut design. Sorry. All I see is a bunch of conjecture with very little "science" to back it up. Just like about anything else that is debated heavily about instruments to be honest - it's all so intangible and subjective. I don't think I've ever seen anything I would describe as scientific analysis of the burning issues that we seem to love winding each other up about so much.

I know it seems like the a most unlikely place to hold a bash, but I thought it might be a laugh. Just gauging interest at the moment, but I have and idea of a venue in mind. Any bass players in or near Aberdeen(shire) fancy drooling over other people's basses or geeking out over a pint or two? Of course it would be organised and controlled, not just any old schmuck coming off the street and playing/dinging/stealing your basses Anyone up for it?

What I can't wrap my head around is all these people with super fragile rigs which it seems it's possible to destroy just by using the amp's controls. My cab can handle twice the power coming out of my head at max oomph, which it should be able to handle outputting, otherwise it's poorly designed.
That is the least dorky bass i've ever seen. That my friend is a thing of real beauty.
Why thank you. It's an "I'm allowed to have a playful dig at my own basses" thing, in the same way that one is allowed to slag off one's home town AND get offended at non-residents who do. It is dorky to me. The thing is having spent a lifetime being alternately referred to as dork, geek and nerd, I don't see it as an insult. To me, the RD is a dorky bass. It's clever (hello, built in compressor/expander and bright mode in addition to 2 band EQ - may as well be a built in slide rule and pocket protector), awkward (needs its own gig bag/case, neck position relative to the body), non-conformist and most definitely not swimming with the tide. The RD would never go to a school dance, even if it was asked, which it wouldn't because it's "weird". It's probably the bass I identify with the most, and because I've become quite a militant dork/geek/nerd these days, I love to wave it like a flag in the face of conformity. Hey kids, it's OK to be clever, it's OK to be different and HERE'S why.

I screw the saddles down until the strings buzz when I'm playing at last fret minus one, then raise 'em again until they stop. I couldn't tell you in millimetres what my action is, it just works for me.
New info (apparently from a US retailer) Made in China and well under $1k (US) (link http://www.thegearpage.net/board//showthread.php?t=1302626&page=8) Still would!!!
Accompanied by the usual xenophobia about Chinese Fenders. Sheesh, get over yourself, America. Poor show. Exciting to see some official looking pics later in the thread, even if it is only the guitars. -
It means you liked it, and that's all that matters.
Oh f*** off, that's not dorky, that's KOOL. EDIT: Dork apparently means stupid, inept or unfashionable.
dork [dawrk] Show IPA noun 1. Slang. a silly, out-of-touch person who tends to look odd or behave ridiculously around others; a social misfit: If you make me wear that, I’ll look like a total dork! Synonyms: jerk, schmo; nerd, geek. 2. Slang: Vulgar. penis. Origin: 1960–65; expressive coinage; compare similar phonetic elements in dolt, dong3 , jerk1 , etc. Word story The history of dork is a short one. It’s been around only since the 1950s or 60s, originally as a slang term for “penis.” Most likely dork was just an alternative form of dick, a word that started out as a nickname for Richard—a name meaning “fellow”—but which by the late 1800s, had taken on the additional meaning of “penis” (which is certainly part of a fellow) in British army slang. By the late 60s, American college students had extended the meaning of dork to refer to a socially awkward person. While at first this sense of dork carried pejorative connotations, the term has since been “taken back” by the people it once so cruelly described, and now can even be given as a compliment. If a girl calls a guy “adorkable” (the combination of “dork” and “adorable”), she means to say he is cute in a socially awkward, yet endearing way. Geeks and nerds, while still dorky, are generally considered more intelligent than dorks. Next time you call someone a dork think about its short history in the English language, and reflect upon what a word nerd you are.

For me, dorkiness != ugliness. That's not what dorkiness is about, it's more an endearing awkwardness. In this respect I think some people are missing the point. If this was just another "ugly bass" thread, why not just call it that? My vote is for the Gibson RD Artist. Huge. Neck sticks out further from the body than usual making it quite a stretch but the scale length is normal. Looks like a melted Thunderbird. Absolutely bonkers circuitry. Can pick up radio on some settings. Can sound like tuned springs on extreme EQ settings. That's dorky. It's not ugly, it's not difficult to play, but it has some things about it that have you scratching your head going "eh?". Yet it makes me smile like this when I play it: Now I look dorky, playing a dorky bass. THAT'S dorky.
What we need is a mass blindfold test. Blindfold the players and the audience. Give the players a selection of Fender and Squier P or J from various factories, plus some cheap clones and some boutique ones. See who can tell the difference.
Well, that would certainly stop people listening with their eyes.
What kind of batteries are you using? Alkaline batteries or zinc chlorides won't last long - even some of the premium brands. And some rechargeable batteries just aren't worth the effort after they get past a certain age. You could try lithium batteries - they're not cheap, but do tend to last longer for this kind of thing. Bestaluck BB
Alkaline batteries last for ages in pedals, especially tuners - as long as you unplug them when you're done. Something abnormal is causing the pedal to be on all the time if the battery is disappearing in a few weeks. Better get this sorted out before the OP tries lithium batteries, which you're right will last for eons but until the problem is addressed they'll just be wasted.

My RedSub was a bit niffy when I first got it, but it has calmed down with repeated use. Perhaps there was a blob of glue somewhere there shouldn't have been.
-
I quite like the body shape. The rest of it is balls though.

Brass nuts are shiny when you polish them thus they look good, and that's more than a good enough reason for me before we even get to durability and all the tonal debate.
