Gibson SG Machine Head Bush problem / question
neepheid replied to boggie's topic in Repairs and Technical
If it's new it should be perfect. Take it back. It's up to the shop to make things right. Don't try and fix it yourself, if something goes wrong the shop will wash their hands of you. -
Harley Benton BA500H - Should I buy one?
neepheid replied to Christophano's topic in General Discussion
Thanks dudes.... I'm really considering it. Anyone shed any light on using the aux port for a preamp? Apparently it works.....
I have used the aux in before for amplifying many things - laptop, mp3 player, phone, and also used my Tascam bass trainer as a bass preamp to use two basses at once for bass lessons. Never used a preamp before but as long as the output is the right level then it should work. Of course all tone shaping will have to be done on the preamp - only the master volume will have any effect. -
Harley Benton BA500H - Should I buy one?

I use the RedSub BT5110 combo, which features the same head which can be removed from the 1x10. I really like it - I use it with my Zoot 4x10 cab for bigger gigs or ones with no PA support. Dunno what comes close for the money and it wasn't really a consideration for me - I bought the combo for flexibility. Last night I did a radio session with some of the band and I just used the combo and pointed my microphone down at it, worked like a charm. -
I can't believe I missed a Gibson "guess the bass". Too busy baking.

First Act Delgada? http://www.firstact.com/Products/LimitedEditionGuitars/Delgada_bass.aspx

That's not what the OP said. The OP asserted that "if the internet didn't exist there wouldn't be much in the way of GAS". I don't agree with that at all. Before the internet it was computers I was into and believe me, I could find all sorts of things to overspend my pocket money on back in the early/mid 80s. You found out about it by reading books and magazines, or even through word of mouth from fellow geeks There has always been GAS. I wasn't around for it but I'm sure there was a major car customisation cult in the 70s. Multiple exhaust pipes on your Mini anyone? Ahh, I had car GAS before I could even reach the pedals. Ford Capri for the realistic fantasy, Jaguar E-type or Ferrari 365 GTB/4 for the highly improbably fantasy. All found out about through books and magazines (and toy cars).

I was going to say ... remember books?
Not sure what these do.
It's a USB audio interface for computers. It allows you to plug in instruments/microphones and record them on the computer with very little latency and allows you to monitor through headphones while you are playing/recording. Can also output to other things and has ground lift switches which are handy because sometimes computers introduce noise.

I don't really have a problem gigging any of my basses which are worth from £100 to more than £1000 in pubs. I've never played in any pubs which have made me feel uneasy about my gear or my own personal safety. However, when I play Belladrum festival next month, you bet I'll be taking my least expensive bass (a well used Yamaha BB300) - it's not punters, other bands or thieves I'm worried about, it's more likely to fall foul of the weather or me drinking a few too many paper cups of beer and leaving it somewhere

I think in a lot of these cases the person hears whatever they want to hear. I've been through that and now I only replace bridges for functional reasons like better adjustment options rather than tonal options, which to my mind are ill-defined and a bit spurious in the grand scheme of things.
-
Of course it's possible, it's only wood and metal. Is it advisable? No. You want to do all this work: - drill three massive holes into your bass and push threaded inserts into said holes which will probably pop out under string tension, if not right away then over time. - reroute your bridge earth wire to come out into one of these holes (unless you're lucky and they happen to coincide) - deal with any neck angle issues (which will be a lot of fun if your Tokai is set neck and would warrant a build thread of its own) because the three point sits half a mile above the surface of the body. - fill the screw holes that the previous bridge left. to voluntarily give up the ability to individually adjust your string height? Be happy with your Tokai. I had one once, it was a nice bass. Don't make it worse in some attempt to make it look a bit more Gibson-y. In summary - possible? Yes. Advisable? No. The three point bridge is nasty - and that's coming from a rabid Gibson fan. I only have one bass which employs that abortion of a bridge and I very quickly replaced it with a Hipshot Supertone.
When you started in your first band? What are your reflections on this now? Just nosey and curious really!
Although I had owned a bass for about 3 years before I first played with a band, I'd say I had accumulated no more than a couple of day's total play time before I played my first gig, including the 3 practises with the band before the gig. Reflections? It proves a point - just get stuck in.

This piece might be helpful... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190697798799 You'll have to see if they are willing to ship over here, and you've got about 20 hours left. Good luck

I recently sent out a request for a single one of these knobs and a very kind forumite sent me three for the cost of postage. As I only needed one I now have two spare and in the spirit in which they came to me I now offer them for free to anyone who needs these for a Yamaha (or just a nice pair of Gibson-esque speed knobs). They are press fit and look like this:

Tascam MP-BT1 - Sold
neepheid replied to alex_1_2_3's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
These are fantastic, I think the single most useful bass related gadget I've bought. Everyone knows about the tempo/key alteration and the bass enhance/cut. I use it for silent practice but it can also feed an aux input on an amp, I use it in conjunction with a 2.1 computer speaker at work. I even used it once for two basses with one amp for lessons - one bass in the normal input and one via the Tascam into the aux in
