And it's a big but every last one is ridiculously neck heavy.
I am annoyed by this comment and I will return to it when I've calmed down (and stopped typing stuff then deleting it).
2.
I currently play a Jazz copy and really like the neck on it (I have small hands and stubby fingers).
If that's the case then I'd advise against a G&L Tribute L-2000 - big clubby P neck (on mine at least). If you want a Jazz profile neck on an L-2000 then you'll have to find a USA one I'm afraid. With that proviso, I'd say the G&L is the pick of that bunch you mention.
3. No, nothing doing at the moment. Currently stalking some stuff on eBay which will make my life easier for this project...
4. A bit steep for the amount of work required, in my opinion. Edit: SNAP!
5. It sort of reminds me of this: Another ugly duckling.
6. From what you say this bass appears to be surplus to requirements. If you're not wanting to play it any more then what you going to do with it? Hang it on the wall? Put it in a hermetically sealed display case? Put it in the loft? My first bass was one of these. I sold it. I don't miss it. IMHO sentimentality is an expensive impediment to progress
7. It would help to know what preamp you're using and what it expects as an input.
8. You tell me: I would guess medium, but it just seems right to me. I wear my bass so that it's at the same(ish) height regardless if whether I'm sitting down or standing.
9.
Have you actually tried this out with yours Matt? ... hang on I bet you don't even have a Jazz case, as you can't stand girly jazzes. I just tried my L-1000 (which I believe the L-2000 is almost identical to - dimensionally) in a very snug fitting Kinsman Jazz hardcase and it went in perfectly... didn't get stuck or rattle about or anything.
What I meant by "too rigidly Jazz shaped" was if it has some sort of form fitting insert
10. Might as well throw mine in here - BB614 in black - my "office" bass
11.
Apologies for bumping an old thread but I have an L2000 question that isn't worth starting a new thread for. Will an L2000 fit in a case which is designed specifically for a Fender Jazz (ie moulded to the body shape etc)? Thanks
It won't fit if the case is too rigidly Jazz shaped - the L-2000 body is much more like a Precision than a Jazz (no offset waist). It's not a good enough reason not to get an L-2000 though - if it doesn't fit then just get another case
12. If this stays low it could be a bargain for someone: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260821480729 Currently sitting at £59.99, 9 hours to go. Local pickup in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.
13. Rotosound and Fender flats are like fencing wire. TI flats are super compliant Status Hotwires are somewhere in between.
14. It'll do the job admirably and I reckon it will surprise you. My bass tutor uses an RBX (dunno which one - it's not posh though) live through an Ashdown Electric Blue combo, and seems perfectly happy with it.
15. What's bugging you about the tuners which are currently there?
16.
That brings back some memories: Aberdeen was where I last saw Maiden, back around 1990, in the Capitol. Also saw Van Morrison there. Not on the same night though.
That was the last time they had visited Aberdeen until this Thursday. I remember saying at the time (having neglected to go - I was only 14 at the time though) that they were too big now and would never be seen in Aberdeen again. Just goes to show - never say never
17. Yup, I will be there. Saw them once before at Download 2007. Will try to remember it this time
18.
Firstly, I realise there's tons of these topics on here but I am SUCH a noob I thought I'd just ask again the direct questions I need answering and hope people take pity on me and don't mind repeating themselves. Me and my housemate/band mate have never built a guitar before. I have a squire precision that we've just de fretted and now we're thinking 'what else could we do?' so we joked about having all three pick ups on one bass. So if you were doing this mad feat where would you position each pick up? I love the precision pick up where it is (about 4.8 inches from the 20th fret) I was thinking a Bridge Humbucker and a Neck Jazz pick up So where would you put them? Any other hints and tips I should know? Thanks for your time guys, it's really appreciated
There is a commercially available bass with the pickup combination you describe - the Spear Flextool: I'm not saying it's the way to go, but hope it gives you some food for thought...
19.
Look again- it's a 6 piece body...
I counted 8 - butcher block bass anyone?
20. I realised that I had never finished this story. Allow me to rectify that state of affairs. The body was refinished by Rich (Ou7shined) while he was doing my Victory Artist and once again he did an amazing job. I then dragged my heels for ages until I finally put it all back together and returned it to its rightful owner, who was delighted to see it again after so long and thankfully did not kill me Suffice to say I don't think I'll ever take on something this big for someone else again.
21.
Maybe I'm missing something, but Skype sees soundcard as one unit, so I can't why it wouldn't recognize two signals coming from USB audio interface?
It would - one stereo signal means one (say your microphone) is left and the other is right. They have independent recording levels (think of it as a very simple 2 channel mixer). I believe my E-MU 0202 can also make it a single mono feed, mixing the two together (although how it appears to the computer is a stereo signal where the left and right are identical)
22.
I'll move them tonight - I mainly grabbed ones with loooong threads, I have lots of smaller ones that shoudl also be moved. I would quite like to have a photo gallery in the forum with a mixture of pictures from all bashes - not sure how I would do it though!
This hasn't been done yet. Not wishing to pester you, but (representing Moffat as a regular attendee) I'm feeling a bit left out of all the special forum goodness.
23. Best bet for me would be an external sound interface. I have an E-MU 0202 which is able to take 2 outputs (one with a mic preamp) and mix them together with independent levels. Computer only sees one sound device. Job done. It'll also have a lot less latency than most onboard sound, and you'll also have the benefit of local monitoring through headphones so you can hear what you play, not what your computer thinks you've played (with the associated latency - very off-putting).
24.
As per title, really. I am picking up a Westone Thunder Jet soon (after having recently had one but sold it - long story) which I will probably be pimping a bit. Arguably the best option would be J-East P-Retro but that might be a tad too dear for the project (bass is costing under £80, although it should be good quality) Maybe the guts out of it's cousin, a Thunder 1A, but I'd need to be lucky to find a breaker. Are there any other simple (and relatively inexpensive) onboard preamps out there for single pups? I had an Artec SE-2 fitted into a bass and it worked a treat but they don't seem to do a single pup version - could a kit like that be adapted for just one pup? Or an active pup rather than a preamp? Never played a bass with these - how does it compare? Thanks!
You can easily use an SE-2 - just ditch the blend - remove the wires from the blend circuit board and attach them directly to the pickup.
