I would say that the Bass V is a pretty hard bass to create a forgery of. Apart from its relative obscurity which transcends rarity to the point where most people don't even know what it is (or think it's fake anyway) and it's never been reissued - a 15 fret neck with 5 in line headstock isn't exactly an "off-the-shelf" piece.

The owner had had a go at filing down the bottom of the saddle and got it squint, meaning that it wasn't sitting flush and square in the recess. Put the bridge bottom down on a known flat surface - does it rock at all?

The ones I have tried are as follows: Mono strap - was quite comfy but I didn't really care for the metal bits, seems to me like it might ding the top your bass if it fell on it. Neotech mega strap - I really like this one - it certainly takes the sting out of my 12lb Victory Artist. I used to have it on my Epiphone Les Paul Standard bass, another fairly substantial beast, and it was also excellent at combating neck dive. I feel that I've reached a price point in my gear collecting where I can't/don't/won't see the benefit of spending more. Prime example is the G&L Tribute L-2000. What's the point in getting a USA G&L? Same pickups, the Tribute is already pretty well screwed together, looks quite nice anyway, maybe a little heavy, but does a slight aesthetic improvement (nicer ash grain, more colour choices, the possibility of binding), perhaps a slightly lighter body, and tuners stamped with G&L along with the ALL IMPORTANT LOGO on the headstock really justify a doubling in price? Not for me, because there isn't a corresponding doubling in quality as perceived by me. Yes, I have played a USA L-2000 (in fact it was one at the Moffat bash which started me off on G&L basses in the first place) and while it was very nice and all, I'm glad I hedged my bets and sourced a Tribute - all the sound with a neck I like for half the cost.

You do get basses which have been forgotten in a shop stock room, or bought for someone who had no interest in bass then mothballed for years. Rare, but it can happen. But in short, I expect a 32 year old "mint condition" bass to be in "mint condition". I'm quite the pedant that way.

Sorry, nothing to report - been really busy and not really motivated to do anything with it. Once I've done housey stuff like put up shelves, fit roller blinds and fit a Yale on my front door because my neighbours are loud, ignorant and keep dubious company, I don't really feel like attacking another bit of wood. Once things calm down a bit then I'll continue. The way I see it, I've got until the next Moffat bash to complete it

Hercules stand - get the one with the fold up back support rather than the padded legs - the GS412B not the GS414B. It will hang from the headstock with the auto grip and the shape of the bottom edge is irrelevant.
