1. I have its baby brother the 0202 and can vouch for the ease of use and sound quality.
2. +1 on the fitting in thing. I'm far from the best bass player in my geographical area, but I play what I'm supposed to when I'm supposed to play it, I don't cause dramas, I get on well with everyone (drummer in particular - both musically and personally), have own gear, have own transport, can look after the myspace, yada yada. In fact sometimes I suspect that I'm in the band more because of these other factors than for my playing
3. Welcome to the forum Good practice that - some quite challenging stuff in the Ska/2-Tone music.
4. I wouldn't know - my wife doesn't have particularly strong opinions about any basses, except these. Most basses I show her and she's all like "mm, that looks nice dear". The mere joking mention of the arrival of an Explorer or a Flying V results in a joking threat of divorce. Go figure
5.
Friends, I recently put a set of LaBella Deep Talkin' Flats on my Vintage V4 (and the neck has barely moved by the way). The strings sit slightly proud of the top of the nut. (There's no gap between the strings and the bottom of the individual slots, and they don't rattle or buzz from there). Does this matter? I mean could it cause any problem sound- or stress-wise? cheers Ian
No, that sounds fine - in fact the strings shouldn't be completely buried in the nut anyway. As long as they're sitting firmly on the bottom of the slots and the slots are deep enough (maybe 3/4 of the string width) so that strings don't ping out under sideways duress then you should be fine.
6. I'm pretty lucky - 2.4 miles according to google maps
7. Welcome to the forum
8. Thanks for all the interest folks. This bass is now sold.
9.
At a recent gig the other bands bass player played one of these (with rounds on) through my Trace and it sounded huge. Not remotely like the one dimensional thump I was expecting.
Nice one, I always liked the tone with rounds, but I was told to get flats on it at the Moffat bassbash Thread update: it looks like I am going to be able to replace the rather tatty bridge pickup with a more shiny one with gold foil intact.
10.
How much for the slippers?
£300
11.
so is the only thing left to fit electronics or am i missing something? hopefully someone will take it on and finish it!
Nah, there's still routing to be done for the pickups, the fret ends need filed, some sort of ramp needs to be created, a rear cavity cover needs to be made and fitted. Then there's finishing to be done of course. I just don't have the time to do this stuff any more. Some of the parts are up for sale in the forum (see link in sig). Anyone wanting to take this on should buy the Badass V too, as the body is drilled to fit such a bridge.
12. @BassJase: yes, it was in the bridge position. @Mr. Foxen: 19mm spacing, and the screw holes appear to be the same spacing as Fender bridges, approx 17mm.
13. Hi folks I'm selling my DeArmond Starfire bass. It's a semi-hollow, 2 pickup bass, short scale, small tuners replaced with full size Schallers. 3 way switch, vol and tone for each pickup and an overall master volume. A couple of cosmetic issues - a couple of dings near the bridge, the bridge pickup is a little worn looking (gold foil is worn away - by a previous over-enthusiastic plectrum user perhaps?). There was a crack in the neck where the fingerboard had come away from the back of the neck but I've fixed that (glue injected into the crack and clamped) and it's rock solid and smooth to the touch. I'd like £200+postage for it please. It's got roundwounds on it just now but I'll throw in a set of flats as well if you want to go full-on old school. I don't have a gig bag which fits it but I do have one which nearly fits bar about 4 inches which you can have. I have used the strap along the edge of the bass to protect the sticky out bit. With that in mind, have the strap too
14. Sorry guys, but I'm abandoning this project. No time and even less inclination to complete it, I'd rather spend the time playing than building. If anyone wants to take it on, PM me.
15.
Don't say - you've finally found a girlfriend!
Heh, no but a new house with my wife demands my attention and skills more than these projects do. Plus I'd rather be playing than building these days. Actually, who am I trying to kid, it's GAS money Some pics up!
