1. eBay listings look weird to me today - all Fisher-Price and touchy-feely, ugh. Is this the beta thing that's been going on for a while and I'm finally being forced to use it?
2. "Oops, I've just bought another bass" - bump!
3. Yeah, I guess an update is due from me also: Current 2007 Custom build (SD MM/J QP/Artec 2EQ/Hipshot A-style bridge/Schaller BMFL tuners) Fecker Imprecision (Squier body/neck with Badass II, SD QP pup, Fender Mex tuners) Squier Bronco (modified with Lipstick pup, 4 saddle bridge, full size tuners) Warwick Rockbass Corvette Standard 4 Epiphone EB-0 (modified with DiMarzio Model One pup, Hipshot Supertone bridge, Hipshot Ultralite tuners) Takamine acoustic bass (needs truss rod nut replaced though) On the way in DeArmond Starfire (if my brother ever posts it (or I go down there and get it myself)) Epiphone Les Paul Standard bass (moment of weakness - black with cream binding - oops, expected on Wednesday) On the way out Epiphone EB-3 (for sale thread) Been and gone Squier Jazz OLP MM3 I think I need to get rid of one more, but the trouble is I feel personally invested in the ones I've modded
4.
Sorry for being dense. How do you know if it can take the extra tension?
Not very helpful, but if the neck snaps, then it couldn't take it. Seriously though, some flats exert more tension than others. I have limited experience with flats, but I wouldn't get Rotosound flatwounds - I found them so tense I could hardly move them while playing!
5. Heh, and I just gave him his money back because I bought a 2U rack case from him for my naked, homeless Hartke 3500 head. Everything went swimmingly!
6.
wow thats a very small ding to knock 6% of your price! most folk would just say it was 'mojo' or something. anyway good luck, i bought something or another off of neepheid and hes a good guy to deal with. EDIT: the guy sorted me with a set of tuners. that was it. helpfull and aberdonian...
Ach, I lopped a tenner off because I felt bad after saying earlier that there were no dings.
7. More pics: Lacquer cracks around the jack socket (heavily exaggerated by angle poise lamp) Headstock: Damnit, I found a ding. Bottom rear edge of the body (it's between my finger and thumb in the pic): Exaggerated by angle poise lamp: In the light of finding a ding (which I'm most upset about) the price is down to £140.
8. Epiphone EB-3. I bought it on a whim because it was pretty. As it isn't the easiest things to play, it then became an ornament for a few years before I finally decided to get serious about it.
9. Well, I'm doing what I said I would never do. I'm selling my first bass. I don't want to get into an argument over it - my wife only has one rule with regard to my bass fixation/addiction - I have to play them all at some point. My tastes have evolved over time towards wider and/or chunkier necks and therefore this slim necked monster rarely gets used. I'm a hypocrite, yes, especially after advising others not to sell their first bass. Anyway, to details! This is a 2003 Epiphone EB-3 made in Korea (for those who obsess about such details) with the following details: Mahogany body, mahogany neck, 34" scale, set neck, 1 Sidewinder "mudbucker" in the neck, 1 mini bass humbucker at the bridge, independent vol/tone for each, 3 way switching. 3 point bridge with the bushings epoxied into the body to alleviate lift out under string tension which seems to afflict bridges of this kind. The only bad points - a couple of lacquer cracks around the jack socket. About a week after I took this home I was playing sitting down. I stood up. My foot was on the lead. Oops. I tightened up the jack socket again and it hasn't moved since (5 years), so it looks like I got away with it. One ding (which I only found once I was taking the detailed photos, schniff). Apart from that, it's in excellent nick - no rash, slight swirling in the lacquer where the strap attaches at the back. Anyway, I have a couple of photos of it but I'll add some better ones and a closeup of the jack socket area to show those cracks. Regarding pricing, I'm looking for [s]£150[/s]£140 + postage. Further edit: according to the Guitar Dater Project, this bass was actually made in November 2002, but that's near enough 2003 and that's when I bought it.
10. Andy bought the world's smallest bass amp from me recently. A prompt payer, he also seems like a thoroughly nice chap. Buy/sell with confidence.
11.
You'll need some rack ears for the HA3500, did you buy it new?
Nah, I got it second hand. I found the Thomann link for the ears. I now await case recommendations. Cheers guys.
12.
Does anyone know where I can get replacement pickups for a Gibson EB-3? I know DiMarzio do a neck replacement (unfortunately in black rather than a bright metal) but I'm completely stuck on the mini humbucker. Any ideas?
I quite like the black of the Model One - it's kinda old school like the early EB pickups: 1962 Gibson EB0 Bass Guitar Looks quite good in my Epi EB-0, imho.
13. Hi there The surround of my Hartke HA3500 is broken - split at the side handle. I was thinking of replacing this with a 2U rack case. Trouble is that I'm not sure where to start. I presume I'll need some kind of brackets - do they come with a rack case? Are the brackets a standard thing or do you need to get ones specific to your amp? Anyone got any recommendations for 2U rack cases - I have no clue as to what's good and what's bad. Also not wanting to spend a heap, so if it can be kept below £100 it would be nice. Sorry for all the questions but I'm pretty green when it comes to all this rack mounting shenanigans.
14.
Back to the abuse now?
Bring it on, you surly curmudgeon!
15. Just bought a set of Hipshot Ultralites from Derek here, got them to me snappily and well packaged. Nice easy sale, no problems here. Would not hesitate to deal with him again in the future.
16.
In the same sense that "Squire" is the new "Squier". I think I'm having an Intolerant Bastard day today - the combined repetition of "Squire" & "origional" in that ad makes me want to buy it just so I can collect in person & then beat his oxygen-thieving, illiterate face in with it. And if that offends anyone, they can expect the same. Have a nice day. J.
Actually, I was making a semi-serious point about the shifting perceptions of "quality" as the Far Eastern production is concerned, but never mind
17.
Squire Precision bass made in korea £280.00 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1989-Squire-by-Fende...bayphotohosting
Korea is the new Japan?
18.
That's it. I had my other warmoth wired direct to jack and it was very bassy with little treble. That's why I thought that should be wiring a cap in doing it this way. I am looking for full teble
The cap eats high frequencies. If you want full treble - no cap.
19. I've always thought that the Traben Chaos 4 seems like a lot of bass for the money: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/76237 And it looks normal too, bonus!
20. It's just radically changed as I think I've taken care of one of my New Year resolutions and joined a band. Before it was maybe a couple of hours a week - now it's cranked up to about 10 (learning songs before first practice), and might be more in the run up to my first gig with them at the end of February.
