One for those of you on the move - I am selling an Ibanez GA1B amp. Don't get too excited - here are the specs: 4W @ 4ohm, 4" speaker, volume, bass and treble controls. Basically, it makes an electric bass audible. Where this unit could be useful to someone is in the fact that it's tiny. I used to stash it at my wife's place when we were going out so I could have a noodle every so often when I was staying over. Not my photo, but here's some context: Comes with PSU. I don't even know if they're made any more, there's been none on eBay in the last few months and I found one place via Google shopping selling them at a tickle under £30. Therefore I'd be looking for £15 delivered. If you flit between 2 places and the second place has no space for amps and stuff then maybe this might do a job for you.

A sticky, bass and family related situation

A sticky, bass and family related situation
neepheid replied to neepheid's topic in General Discussion
He has broken cover, it's being sent apparently, but he's pretty angry due to some rather forthright messages my wife left on his Facebook. He gave an explanation but frankly I don't want to go into it, it's messy family crap which'll have to be cleaned up at some point. Gah, families - never involve them in business, it ends up being worse than any bad eBay transaction. This situation keeps getting better and better - if the bass arrives it'll probably be in three bits On the bright side he's not dead, nor seemingly in danger/trouble. I had better bite my tongue and see if the bass turns up next week. -
It's just to cover their backs. Your house goes up in smoke and you weren't using the recommended power supply? Well, there's your problem! I use my PSP's power supply to charge my Tascam bass trainer - same voltage, same polarity, same plug.

Bought a bass to get back into playing after a while. I bought it off a company called Ferris Music. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-STRING-ELECTRIC-BA...Q2em118Q2el1247 Very polite and delivery was quick but boy what a load of rubbish. Action is ridiculous, wiring is wrong (2 volume pots, both do the same thing on or off for all the pickups), truss rod wont turn and to top it off rusty frets! Has anyone an opinoin on the Westfield 'Warwick' look a likes? The guy in the guitar shop has them for £119, he said Warwick were going to confiscate them off Westfield so they sold them all off cheap. Or any other ideas? Looking to spend about £150 to £200?

Pickup: 2 single/1 humbucker
As a rule, I'd never buy someone from someone who doesn't have a clue what they're talking about, like those eBay sellers who quote the entire length of the guitar end to end as an important measurement For £200 you could get a secondhand Warwick Rockbass, if it's a Warwick-a-like you've set your heart on. There's one here that might still be on the go: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=rockbass
Slightly scratchy pots - might be a bit dirty, since everything else was. Is there a simple way I can spray/clean them without unscrewing or undoing anything!?
You need switch cleaner - Servisol Super 10 or some equivalent. Take off the back cover and look at the pots. There should be an opening in the pot casing, usually where the contacts are. Spray a little stuff in there then turn the pot back and forth through its entire range a few times.

Oh dear, his mobile's now appears to be cut off. Looks like he's in bother He's probably stuck his head in the sand in response. I wish he could just talk about stuff instead of hiding away, or pretending everything is OK, making people think he's up to no good. Now I feel a bit bad for getting angry with him. I think I'll have to try and contact him via his work, make sure he's OK. Damn it. -
I live 6 miles from him. I've emailed him to say I'd like to come round for a look at the G&L, because I'm very interested in buying it. What happens if I want it? Don't want to jump a queue, if one is forming. What's the etiquette here? Steve
Fair dos to be honest. Trading at a distance you're always at the risk of someone local doing the deal. No-one here's made a strong declaration of intent regarding the G&L anyway. Go for it. Ultimately it's the seller's prerogative to sell to whoever.

Fender HMV String-thru-body bridge as replacement bridge
neepheid replied to 88msDelay's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hello to all, Would anyone know if the newer Fender High Mass Vintage (HMV) string-thru-body bridge installed in the 2008 American Standard P-Bass & J-Bass could be used as drop-in replacement for the older string-thru-body bridge installed in the American Deluxe J-Bass? Bridges in these models all have 3-screws. I have an American Deluxe and would like to make this change. The issues I'm struggling with are: 1) The American Deluxe, though having the same length scale (34" or 863.6 mm), has 22 frets while the American Standard only has 20 frets 2) How will replacing the Deluxe's stock bridge affect the scale and subsequently the intonation? I like the newer HMV bridge for it's heavier mass & presumably more stable qualities - supposedly helps with sustain. The saddles also look more durable & finely adjustable. Greatly appreciate if anyone could offer any help. Thanks to all!
First off, number of frets is irrelevant when considering scale length. As long as it's put in the same place (relative to scale length) as the old bridge and the new bridge provides a similar amount of adjustment then you'll be fine. As to whether it's a direct replacement for the old bridge, I couldn't say for sure. Hopefully someone can confirm or deny this authoratively. -

It's not worth much, but he wouldn't know that. Of course it's a possibility that he's in some sort of bother, which I hope is not the case - hence putting the feelers out around the family. I have asked him if he's OK, and that if he's in some sort of bother suggested that it would be better to get in touch. -

I'm in a bit of a pickle. Basically I asked my brother to bring a bass up from Manchester for me which I had bought off a BCer there. He was coming up for Christmas anyway so I figured that I would save a bit of money on courier costs. That fell through because my brother kept it at his work locked in a cupboard instead of traipsing it all the way home (it was boxed up, no bag). Unfortunately when he went to get it before getting his train up the road he found that the boss had gone home for Xmas and had taken the key with him. Oh well. He said that he told his boss what had happened and the guy was sorry and was willing to pay for it to be shipped up, seeing as it was his mistake and all that. Fair dos. Anyway, New Year comes and goes and my brother surfaces and says that he's sorting out the courier. I give him my work address because I always get stuff of value/large size sent there. He texts me last Thursday to say that DHL were picking it up from his work the next day (Friday 9th) and that he would text me the tracking reference. Fast forward to Tuesday 13th. No sign of bass or text from my brother. I politely ask him by text if he's got that tracking number. No answer. On Thursday 15th I text him again for an update - nothing. I tried phoning him on Thursday night - no answer. I tried phoning him on Friday 16th - no answer, left a voicemail. My wife has texted him asking what's going on and left him a message on his Facebook. I've let the rest of my family know what's going on in case he speaks to any of them. I don't know what to do. He's my brother, so surely he can't have done the dirty on me? But if he's got nothing to hide then why avoid/ignore me? He smokes, you can't tell me he hasn't had an opportunity during a fag break to text me to at least update me? If he's sold it or pawned it - I may never speak to him again. If it's lost somewhere in DHL land then I'll apologise, but why the delay in getting me the info I need to chase it up? If it got stolen from his work or something then why not phone me right away - it's what any normal person would do, isn't it? My mind is whirring with possibilities, some less pleasant than others. This is what happens when you get left in the dark. If I have to organise a BC posse to go round his work then I will ask, but I hope it doesn't have to come to this.

Interesting suggestions all. In the end I have alleviated (but not completely cured) the problem by lining the top half of the inside of the hole with some 0.6mm maple veneer I had lying around followed by bashing them in with a rubber faced hammer. There's still a little lifting on two of them but it is reduced to about a mm. Happy enough for now but will eventually replace them with better tuners with screw in bushings. Epoxy is tempting but I'm not sure I want to be tied down to press in bushings just yet.
Its the offset body logo that you only get on Jazz basses It is a nice looking bass but not genuine - its definitely a Fecker Imprecision
Hmph, I will not have my poor Fecker Imprecision's name used to describe any bitsa fake bass!
-
+1 for Machine heads wrong, headstock logo wrong. The seller is also breaching eBay policy (and being cheeky) by saying "ONCE PAYMENT IS SENT BUYER MUST LEAVE + FEEDBACK" at the end - feedback should only be left upon successful completion of transaction. Sadly I think this is the point eBay will be most bothered with. Reported anyway, for both reasons.
-
Ach, everyone's seen this - my first custom build from 2007: Will take pics of the old Fecker Imprecision (my bitsa bass) later.
I've used masking tape where you've used paper and that has worked before.
Hmm, I was eyeing up the masking tape, I guess it might be more "grippy" than paper. I'll give it a bash.
