1. Oh and furthermore, I was delighted to find a complete lack of gear snobbery at the bass bash at the weekend - guys with ACGs, Overwaters and Statii picking up my Epiphone Les Paul Standard and complimenting it, as well as the rest of the rag-tag collection of upgraded tat I brought down with me. I only felt intimidated for the first half hour Dave went from "it looks like a guitar, get it out of my sight" to "actually, I really quite like that" to playing some crazy tapping solo on it. We have a winner!
2. Not quite £100, but I picked up a half functional Hartke 3500 head for 140 notes. Once I got the valve preamp working (burned out resistor in the power rectification stage for the valve) I've been delighted with it. It does happen.
3. Not happening with me. Ever. I can safely say with all certainty I will never smash up an instrument on stage.

5. Not long back in for our road trip. I'd just like to say that I had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend - great to meet new people, try out some rather fancy gear, eat some curry and quaff a few beers. A bit disappointed at the turnout - Moffat's not that far from Glasgow (or Edinburgh) and I really thought that we'd get an infux from these places but nada. Big thanks to Alan for hosting us and organising an excellent venue for us. Also thanks to him for showing us his workshop and talking shop. I honestly feel like I improved as a bass player over the weekend. There's something in not wanting to look like a fool to apply the pressure to step up a gear
6. Right, we're heading down shortly - see you there!
7. I think it's quite naive to think you can practice a full band setup with impunity in a residential setting. We did it twice, the first time next door must have been out but the second time he came to the door. Never done it since. A band playing "baws-out" makes a fair old racket. That's fine if you live on top of hermit hill, but if not then I don't believe it's feasible. These days it's rehearsal room or private, low volume stuff at home. I don't understand the prices people are coming away with in this thread for room hire. At the place we go it's a fiver each for 2 hours when the whole band turns up (or 25 if you're solo ) But seriously, (admittedly this is flats, not detached houses) I had to enter into neighbour mediation once because I was putting my washing machine on too late at night. That was resolved amicably with an undertaking on my part not to start a wash later than 8pm. I get on fine with that neighbour now. So if a washing machine can get you in bother, what can a whole band do?
8.
I've trawled the internet for info on buying a bridge pickup for my EB project. But no joy Can anyone recommend a seller?
Old school traditional style for an EB-3? 9. I can't seem to log into the wiki, I cleared my cookies and cache, logged in and out of the forum successfully. Something up?
10. Bleh - mutated photoshopped Jazz into Precision - why?

12. You might as well try your bridge wire on a pot casing. Perhaps your shielding is not as complete as you think.
How wide is the neck on the Les Paul basses?
44mm at the nut, at least on the Epi it is.

Heh, I'm in the Gibson Little League with my Epiphone Les Paul Standard bass. But I love it, mostly the neck, but also the fact that it is quite unusual to see one out and about. I didn't love the stock pickups though, so I put some EMG-HBs in it I can't leave a bass alone.
15.
Many thanks for this link. I am getting about 33% or so on first try. It can be frustrating at times but great when you get a few correct in a row lol Cheers
The biggest baw-ache is getting the interval right but the major/minor wrong. Finding out what a tritone is might aid my understanding also.

17.
Aha I see. I wish it was a typo. But no, I'm genuinely a '66 vintage.
Aye, 1066
18. Huh, my basses are worth much more than I am, certainly in monetary terms - if only I could stop tweaking and twiddling at them! As for my playing being worth anything - I suspect the only reason I'm in the band is because the guitarist doesn't have 4 arms
19. From what I can see, where you've gone wrong is that (according to the Kent Armstrong pdf you posted up earlier) the black wire from the pickup is hot and the white is earth. Yes, I know this colour scheme makes no logical sense, but according to that reference, you've got the hot output of the pickup going to the volume pot casing and the earth going to the volume control. Read it again and double check, but that's what I've read - several times now. I presume that red wire coming from the jack socket is going to the bridge?
20. It's strange - I am conservative and I'm not. Conservative when it comes to body shapes etc., constant tinkerer when it comes to hardware and internals. Current body shapes - P, LP, Bronco/Musicmaster/Mustang, even my custom build is a modified P type shape (non-offset waist, slightly altered horns). I suppose the LP is radical in the sense that not many famous players use one. When it comes to the hardware/internals, nothing is safe! I've just put EMG-HBs in my Epi Les Paul bass and I'm waiting on the arrival of a BQC Control for 3 band EQ madness
21. Definitely the middle one.
22.
I've got an old Spector Rebop, which is a natural oiled finish. It's just a rather grubby lump of alder, which isn't the most exciting wood visually. I'm wondering about a refin and what to use and sources of material. I know about Reranch in the US, but they can't ship anything flammable. Is there an equivalent here?
Manchester Guitar Tech does cans of nitro lacquer, bit pricey but seems to work well. 23. Just a wee update to say that the rag tag pot I had lying around has been replaced with a nice CTS one, and it now has the correct length strings on it.
24. What he said ^ ^ ^
25. Again, not familiar with alternatives. Yes, great piece of kit, has proven indispensable on many occasions, for headphone practice, slowing down songs, changing pitch, emphasising bass, cutting bass for playing along. Simply a Swiss army knife of a practice tool. Handy hint - if you have a PSP, you can use its power supply, the plug and the voltage/polarity/current supplied are perfect for it. Criticisms - changing key/tempo can sound a bit odd/warbly. If you want a permanent shift, you'd be better loading the MP3 into Audacity and using the tools there to make the change and re-uploading the file to the Tascam.
