1. "Sold the same guitar 3 times, and doesn't reply to e-mails or answer his phone. Buyer: stagbag ( 17 [Feedback score is 10 to 49] ) Mar-22-05 06:42" According to his feedback, not the first time this has happened...
2.
*drums fingers *
Heh, sorry, holidays! I was in Cyprus for my sister's wedding.
3. If you're willing to get the router out then you can put in anything you like. If you're not happy with the position and you're going to refinish the body a solid colour, rout it out square and glue a filler of wood in the hole, plane/sand flush then rout wherever you like. As for stripping, I've only ever sanded. Hard work, time consuming, but strangely theraputic...
4. Pristine or p*** off. Or serious money off. I equate basses with cars.
5. With performers in their advanced years, you have a moment where you wonder if you should be checking the news when you see an unqualified thread about them. Gave me a bad half moment there!
6. I don't like seeing threads in here with many views and no replies. Welcome (back) to the forum
7.
probably a stupid question with an obvious answer... but why not glue the neck to the soundboard, so then you can just cut the shape of the neck out of the quality street tin and the neck is right at the very edge of the tin, being supported by the soundboard rather than the tin... if that makes any sense? (i know what i mean... its just difficult to explain) anyway, its looking really good at the moment! this is a really interesting thread
The soundboard needs to be free to vibrate in order to generate acoustic sound. It's not going to be terribly loud given the lack of surface area, but it'll be louder acoustically than a solid body bass unplugged.
8. Having fitted the Hipshot bridge to my Epi EB-3, I can vouch for its improvement in sustain, articulation and ease of use. The 3 point bridge is dead!
9.
Isn't it a stupidly low BIN? I would've thought these'd go for £500+..? I don't know much about vintage Fenders, but it just seemed too good to be true!
One UK one failed to sell at £300 recently. One sold for £430, but to be fair it did have a rather hefty looking flight case with it. A recent US one sold for £240. Seems fair according to recent history.
10. What's your beef with it? Lots of photos, 100% positive over 968 feedbacks, account in regular use. Some non-original parts. Not asking for crazy bank transfers.
11.
Do Schaller M4's fit a Warwick? as it looks like they have listed some Schaller machineheads.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=250267878716 Without wishing to pour cold water on the operation, Thomann have Schaller M4 machines for less than the starting price of their auctions, never mind where the final price might end up. http://www.thomann.de/gb/schaller_m4a_ebassmechanik.htm That's nothing compared to what they'd like to get for them: http://www.bassguitarpartsdirect.co.uk/sho...2+Bass+Machines I appreciate that it's tough to get started, and even tougher to compete against the buying power of a large, well established company.
12. Pics as promised: Which you can see is much closer to the top of the body than before: It should come together quite quickly now.
13. Welcome to the forum
14. Well last night I bit the bullet and made a new body. I managed to get my soundboard off the old body with some minor damage at the sides (one layer of ply came away along the grain on the underside). The neck is now as close to the top of the tin as I dare. Pictures later. Started to make the "tailpiece" by shaping one side of it to the side of the tin. I also received some piezo transducers from Maplin. Despite 2 attempts to get them through my local store (they arrived with the central part torn at the solder joint) I ordered 6 (to make sure - they're like 50p each) in the hope that one or two came through the post unscathed, I received 7 for some reason and all are intact. Would you believe it? That's despite being "cushioned" by a can of Servisol Super 10 which acquired a crack in the lid during its journey! It's a funny old world.
15. Practice plugged in. You use the thing plugged in. Even when I use my Tascam bass trainer, it's still technically plugged in. Of course you could get an acoustic bass guitar. They'll show up all your finger squeaks and sloppy technique without an amp quite happily
16. /me shrugs Each individual case should be decided upon its own merit. Personally I think that eBay's got well cut-throat over the past wee while (had to leave my first neg this month and i'm on the cusp of having to go through claim #2 in my eBay life) and anything which can be done to help people make an informed choice regarding the items on offer is helpful. It goes without saying that such emails should be worded carefully. Present facts, not opinions.
17.
I dont know if the winning bidder will appreciate someone e-mailing him saying "oh by the way, the amp youve just bought is probably stolen, have a nice day" I say leave it be and enjoy your amp when it comes through! I was lucky enough to buy a LM2 a few weeks ago brand new at the old price (£450 W/postage) so im pretty pleased the prices have gone up!!
What do you think we do when we spot fake Fenders on eBay? It's up to them what they do with the advice, but I think you'll find that a few people have been extremely grateful for our "oh by the way, the bass you've just bought is probably fake, this is why (important part), have a nice day". Turning a blind eye to these kind of shenanigans is as good as condoning it.
