People break stuff. They maybe don't mean to, but they still do. There's a 1cm gouge in the top edge of my Ashdown cab and the fact that my Hartke head is no longer in its original case which provides me with ample irksome reminder of this.
I just googled one of my bands and found this. We come out of it ok but the beer comes off better. Neepheid did your Mrs write this by any chance?
Yup, she did. Heh, I remember that night - wasn't long after our wedding and you guys gave us a shout out before "Red Mosquito"
I've had my ibby SR1000 for about 20 years & as of this past couple of years it's been giving me a sore wrist when trying to play chords or octaves (I posted something about this in the general forum). I've checked with the doc & there's nothing there, so I went to my local (music shop) & tried a few different basses just to hold my fretting hand on & spent about 45 mins in the shop doing this with Fender & Cort basses (all he really has in) and I never got any pain in my wrist at all. That leads me to conclude that the very shallow neck is the culprit. So now I'm thinking about getting rid of my bass (which I don't wanna do ) and replacing it with something else with a thicker neck (about 90% of other basses I recon!). Problem is, I've no idea what it's worth to sell & what sort of money I'd be needing to spend to get a bass of similar quality. The bass has quite a few chips in it but plays like the day I bought it & has been ultra reliable, I've never had the need for a backup bass. Any help on pricing what I should sell this for (if I do) & ideas on manufacturers to replace it with would be very much appreciated. Cheers, G
No help on manufacturers here, but just to echo the preference for wider/thicker necks. I've tried tried and got rid of a Jazz and an Epi EB-3 on the grounds that I just didn't get along with the necks. I built a bass which was P width and was instantly at ease. Since then it's been P width all the way. I had a go of an OLP MM3 5 string - got rid of that because the strings were just too damn close together - it's probably my poor technique but I found it very claustrophobic. Funnily enough I have found that either property (width/thickness) seems to make the difference - I have a Warwick Rockbass Corvette which is J width but a lot thicker front to back and it seems comfy enough which surprised me.

Dunno, what's his beef like? Maybe it's there's a little too much dusty end noodly bits, but I wouldn't cut them back too far - I like the way that you move up in pitch during that repetitive bit. If the guitar is doing a similar sounding thing, it's time to go for a walk, no?
If you're in a band with a female singer as far as the majority of the audience are concerned you are her backing band. If you don't get that and live with the fact your probably in the wrong business. At least the blokes aren't a bunch of fat ugly baldies, so they might just have a chance at being treated as equals... ;-)
Suits me - a lady singer takes a lot of attention away from this inexperienced bass player. Only other bass players will notice the fluffed bits
Got a picture? Is it a straight forward swap? How much do you want for it? Thanks.
All the skinny is here (including pics of it installed on my Epi EB-3 which I returned to stock and sold): http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=17555 I'd be looking for £50 for it - I've spied them for £75 (+VAT if you get caught) on eBay from the States and Hipshot direct want $120 + postage (£87). It'll come with all the accessories (mounting bolts, allen keys). PM me if you're up for it.

They're nae too bad. I had one for a while, but in the end it had to go because it just wasn't putting me up or down. BTW: if you're pimping your one, I have a Hipshot Supertone bridge for sale. Meaty bridge which is so much better than the stock 3 point effort. Shameless plug over
I've had this Ibanez SR1000FM Prestige since I gave up playing live, so it's hardly been used. However, it's recently started to become noisy when altering the eq controls (they're two dual concentric controls - Bass and Treble on one, Mid band and Boost/Cut on the other.). I've changed the battery, but no go. Everything looks OK inside, but the seems to be nowhere in the eq pots (which are way smaller than the volume and pan) to squirt switch cleaner. I can see something moving through a cutout in the pot when I'm moving the inner control, so should I treat it there ? It's a mystery to me. It was fine when I bought it, and it's hardly been used. Its kept in it's case in a cupboard which is not damp etc. Any ideas ?
I'd go ahead and spray in there, if you can see a turning piece can you turn it so you can't see it any more? Spray might penetrate better if its moved out of the way.

replacement pickups for pbass?
neepheid replied to civilian_project's topic in Repairs and Technical
What about the Seymour Duncan Antiquity? http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/antiquity/bass/ They look ratty and old too! Maybe the Wizard Trad might be worth a look also? -
Yup, overpriced. It varies with the model (and varies pretty wildly on evilBay too) but I'd concur with the assessment of £150-£200 depending on condition, whether it comes with a gigbag or not etc.

Well done on embarking on this, you'll have a lot of fun, maybe a little frustration but ultimately you'll learn a lot. I'll be keeping an eye on how you're getting on.

The only basschatter I've seen play while I've been sober is Ou7shined. And he's pretty damn good in my book. -
