1. I don't have a problem with the co-existing in one forum, I don't find the commercial builder's stuff that interesting so I tend to gloss over it or not read it at all. However, if it's a design I like (RIM springs to mind with that slotted headstock, mmm), then I'll give it a look. I am more interested in the home build type stuff, the problems and the workarounds, but each to their own. This is probably because I am a hobbyist with the wrong tools and a quarter of the talent of these commercial builders. Otherwise, I'd be one of them. Maybe one day. Have to improve that turnaround time somewhat though I don't think there's a need for a seperate forum for commercial builders. Read what you like, don't read what you don't like.

  3.
Yes, Rondo got some nice-looking basses, Still: **snip**
Please take your crusade elsewhere instead of saying the same thing in 3 different threads. OK, you've got a bee in your bonnet, I get it.
  4.
Yes! Basses looks nice from Rondo! **snip**
Why are you cross posting this?
  5.
Here is how: The shipping and customs and import VAT for items from outside EU makes it expensive even though the USD is low. Example: $100 for guitar and $100 for shipping and 34% on top of the sum (yes on shipping too!) makes it quite expensive. The 34% includes customs, import VAT. And the hidden 1,5% cost VISA gets from trading in another currency.
Can I ask where you're getting the figure of 34%? UK Customs duty (only applicable beyond a certain value) is approx 3.4% and UK VAT is 17.5%.
  6. Isn't every tribute band "the best in the country" if you listen to what they say?
  7.
"I dont except paypal" What a tit, i've reported it again just because i dont like this guy... Maybe then he'll get the picture. And learn to spell...
This person isn't "technically" doing anything wrong: except /ɪkˈsɛpt/ –verb (used with object) 1. to exclude; leave out: present company excepted. So if they DON'T except PayPal, that means they don't exclude it, so they must accept it Take 'em at their word, give 'em enough rope and all that...
  8.
But with B + B where is the contrast? where is the part that jumps out?
It's not B, it's BWB - trust me, that thin strip of white stands out better than most photos show. In the case of my Bronco, the nice shiny lipstick pickup I plan to put in it will certainly jump out
  9. Not a P-bass, but +1 for BWB: Pickup's being replaced soon too, I know the white cover looks naff
  10.
Hiya people, I play a MM 4 string and keep tormenting myself with a MM 5 string in the music shop. I can't afford one (or play one for that matter) but fancy maybe a cheapo copy to tinker with. I notice on the 'bay' that there is a 'Stratavarious' MM5 (type copy) for about £120 new, delivered and wondered if anyone has any views on either those or the Vintage copies. Cheers, Si.
You'll probably find that 5 string Stingray copies have tighter string spacing than an EBMM Stingray 5. That is certainly the case with the OLP MM3. Incidentally, I might be selling an OLP MM3 (Natural//black pickguard/Maple fingerboard). If it's tinkering in the project sense you want, this might be for you - a battery box already installed if you want to add active electronics. It currently has the pickup wired directly to the jack socket after the active circuit I put in it failed, but I can return it to stock V/V/T configuration before sending it away. See here for pics - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=14009 and http://www.ifb.co.uk/~matthew/pics/bass_porn/03_olp_mm3.jpg (pre-alterations) PM me if you're interested.
  11.
I guess the poor chap could be dyslexic
Yeah, I've been in trouble for that before - the whole reason I never post directly in Off Topic any more.
  12. Did you use a linear or a log (audio) taper pot? A linear pot will not seem like a uniform adjustment in volume whereas a log pot will.
  13.
I read an article in one of the mags a few years ago about someone who needed a pickup for a fender mustang bass which is a small bass. He unded up using I think a hot rails pickup where there is a solid bar across the top, as oposed to individual pole pieces. That apparently worked well
That would likely have been a Musicmaster rather than a Mustang - the Mustang used a split pickup.
  14. Welcome to the forum. I guess I'm quite fortunate that I have no regrettable sales yet. Give it time

    Hey all!

    Welcome to the forum
  17. Welcome to the forum
  18. I recently sold an acrylic transparent P-bass type body to Jon, who is a prompt payer and a thoroughly nice and polite chap. I would not hesitate to do business with him again.
  19. Yeah, that's the one. I might go down the patching up route, either a plate or a few metal strips, probably bolted through, as the stuff the casing is made of looks like fibrous mush which probably wouldn't hold a screw. Or I might just forego it, get a bag for it, lose some of the weight and stop doing Larry's advertising for him
  20. I was picking up my rig from the venue I was playing yesterday and only noticed when I got home that the casing which the head is mounted in is starting to split at the side handle. It's bound to fail in time, where might I go looking for a replacement? It's for a Hartke 3500. Might help if I knew the correct name for it for a start.
  21. +1 for wide, grippy straps. +1 for more weight bridge side - my Epi EB-3 used to neck dive quite severely, even with a grippy strap, and the strap button is already located on the neck heel. However, I changed the 3 point bridge for a much more substantial Hipshot Supertone and it no longer makes a nose dive for the floor, it gracefully descends and then rests about parallel with the ground.
  22. I had my first gig with a full band on Saturday night. We were playing ska covers for a 40th birthday party, so I guess I was quite lucky we had a captive audience who actually wanted to hear the songs we were playing. We arrived at the venue (The Tunnels in Aberdeen - nice little place, you should check it out if you're ever up this way) about 3pm for our third and final practice session. Yes - third. We had terrible trouble finding a drummer, and we only got that sorted a couple of weeks before the gig. Not only that, but Rich (Ou7shined on here) moved from bass to guitar having not played it for years. Yes, I was bricking it. Rehearsal went OK, but it was becoming clear that being recording perfect was out of the question, and I was still simplifying songs over dinner (!) Anyway, we got back to the venue just in time to see the first band (who we borrowed the drummer from ) play - they were really good, mostly originals and they did a Specials song which wasn't on our set - fortunate as they did a right good job of it. Can't really tell you much about the gig. As you can imagine, I spent a lot of it head down looking at my fingerboard, but I did manage to look up/move around a bit during the songs I knew best. I did have some "cheat sheets" on a music stand just off to the side, which I perused feverishly while the singer was having some banter with the crowd in between songs. I think it went well, a few fruity moments for sure but I blustered through it and it was over real quick in the end - one of the quickest hours of my life! The adrenaline certainly kicked in and I found that the songs I most worried about seemed to melt away. We tried to play One Step Beyond as an encore, but we hadn't really practiced it and made a right pig's ear of it I was trying to play as per the recording (as I remembered it), but I'm not sure everyone else was. Or maybe I got it wrong too. Anyway, it was a jumble of sounds that vaguely resembled One Step Beyond, lots of people were dancing, maybe they were all pissed by then and didn't care. I guess I was lucky to have a favourable crowd, a captive audience if you will for my first outing on the big stage. All in all, given the limited preparation time and the rapid transition from talking the talk to walking the walk I think I did quite well. Folk were up dancing, we got cheers, we got applause, we didn't get rotten vegetable matter. Then I got drunk
  23.
HELP! OK guys, I'm now seriously considering this bass. US Ebay is not a prob for me for many reasons, I just wondered if the Kahler bridge will change that musicman tone substantially? Basically, I'm looking for a 2band eq pre-EB ray in natural finish, and the price of this bass is significantly reduced by the tremelo/whammy addition (which I quite like). However, I desperately want that musicman tone. I don't want to compromise on the tone, but this does save money! Thoughts? Just how big a deal is this bridge? Cheers all
I suppose the only change might be a small change in note attack and sustain, but if the Kahler is a quality unit (can't comment, never used one), then this effect should be minimal. It's the same wood, the same pickup, the same electronics, the same strings, the same nut. I noticed a big change when I changed the bridge on my Epi EB-3, but that was going from a 3 point bridge on stilts to a Hipshot Supertone with about twice as much mass and total body contact.
