I trust the BC massive to put the kybosh on frivolity such as this. By the same token, I can sometimes be a meanie and a stickler when I offer my opinion on justifications and I appreciate the moderating force that they represent when I get a bit too "rule-y". The twisting and turning, the "generous" interpretations of the rules are all par for the course, and I find them all amusing. But it's not rocket science, you all know how it works, deep down, and this is as much an exercise in honesty as anything else. Never mind honesty with the BC collective, honesty with yourself. I'm out - I straight up reported it, no point in twisting around the whole "not bass specific" thing regarding the pedal I bought (don't get me wrong, the thought crossed my mind - but it would be supremely hypocritical of me as your opinionated thread watcher/tracker/dogsbody/gofer). I bought a pedal, I did buy it for a useful purpose (and to make my life easier) but I didn't have to buy it, I'm going to use it with basses (as I don't own any other instruments) ergo it's bass gear therefore I'm done. I've since gone wireless and already had huge fun with it at a gig, and I'm already making plans to shuffle my bass pack. It wasn't meant to be this year. Oh well, maybe next year! If someone wants to cheat, no-one can stop them, and maybe the only person who'll ever know is themselves. It's your life, you live it how you want to. As I've said countless times, it's just a bit of fun at the end of the day. The only prize on offer is your own sense of satisfaction that you made a promise and stuck to it, and the cash in your bank account that you didn't spend on gear. You'll have neither of those if you cheat, regardless of whether or not it's reported. You're all adults here, I'm not your mum!

It's probably for the best - I'll be dead but you'll have to fight Mrs. Neepheid for my personal effects and my money's on her

The BC "jury" has spoken. @Geek99, you're back in play. The top of the thread has been edited to reflect this. Normal rules of engagement apply from now on though. For whatever that's worth, it's all a bit of fun! Enjoy your amp and cab, may you annoy many neighbours with it

Bad example, strings are explicitly allowed in the exemptions. Try another analogy?

I'm genuinely pleased for your fortuitous change in circumstances, but gear is gear, this is not an "educational purchase" (the bit you omitted when quoting that sentence) - you know that means books and lessons and stuff. I'm sure your resolve will be bulletproof next year now that your gear is sorted. Hey, I'm not the sole arbiter here. Help me out, I'm not the boss. Opinions, BC massive?

It's not a pass - why TF would you enter a gear abstinence challenge knowing that you had to buy gear? That makes zero sense! Now that you've got all the gear you need, all the best for next year

Yeah, was aware of this, this news isn't grabbing me...

Well, let us know when the working replacement comes in (whatever it is) and I'll sign you off. I think you're in limbo land right now.
-
I dunno, buying something that didn't work and sending it back - does it count? Sounds like you bought a beer but didn't drink it. Is a replacement coming?

Another pic unearthed, with brighter lighting on the bass this time. Pit yer tongue awa', min!

I look like a right tit not playing a keytar

The only band I've ever been in that properly broke up was very anti-climactic but pretty jarring - a band meet up in the pub was arranged, guitarist/songwriter/nominal band leader arrived last, told us he didn't want to do it any more, then left. Me, the drummer and the singer had a pint and absorbed the news (or the news was absorbed by the beer?). Band over.

As an ex-G-3 owner disgusted by the price of second hand Gibson examples, my wallet isn't...

I've been let down before, hence my caution. Please, don't fumble this, Epiphone. I heard they were doing a Grabber that you can't grab (no slidling pickup) so when I hear stories like that it gives me concerns.

Picking a bass to play is the same level of decision to me as picking which shirt to wear. I don't chase tones, I don't feel like I have to play bass X for any particular reason other than I want to. I like how all my basses sound and feel, so what is there left to debate beyond the visual? I enjoy the variety, it's not about having a collection for the sake of having it. In all my bass playing time I have owned 58 basses and sold 49. It's fun, I'm having fun. I'm starting to get a judgy feel about this thread. If you believe in having only one good bass, or pay meticulous attention to the minutiae of bass tone then more power to you, you're not wrong. But neither am I. I'd like to bass the way I want to bass, and you're free to do same.

Not long back from a fun afternoon at Ellon Gala. A truck trailer gig, yes - haven't done one in ages! It was dry, was sunny when we arrived but clouded over a little later. Wasn't super busy but part of the reason was that the bar area was away from the stage a bit and folk weren't allowed to take drinks out of the assigned area (licensing reasons, I presume). We heard later that folk in there really enjoyed our set, so that was good. It was just fun to play outside though and I think we did well. Remarkably it went pretty much to schedule, only started 5 mins late and had to chop one song from the set - I'm gonna call that a win! Bass was my Wunkay, through my trusty tone cubes (Markbass Mini CMD 121P IV and New York 121)

Ha, you've been on the run for a month and a half, you scamp! Nice way to bow out, great score!
-
You're all good. If I may quote the appropriate exclusion in the "rules": "Educational purchases, ie tutorial books, lessons, anything that furthers your playing is permitted." Crack on!

Played it at a couple of gigs so far, went down pretty well.

May has been a quiet month - well done to all. Main news I guess is my own downfall, all over the heads of a £40 pedal, oops. 3 more brave soldiers fell in May leaving 25 still standing. Let's see how June treats us.

Sterling by Music Man… Joe Dart model by stealth?
neepheid replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
I am aware. But I do not believe that SBMM would autonomously go ahead and do this without EBMM telling them to do so, hence my props going to EBMM. -

Right, is that this FOMO charade over for now then? Gotta hand it to them, well played EBMM. -
I'm just happy to get the correct notes in the correct places most of the time. Nor do I have a lot of effects to choose from - just varying degrees of OD and a harmoniser (which does a variety of things, but is mostly used as an auto downtuner, or as an octave doubler - we only have a single guitarist so some songs sound better with me having the octave above) For Wishing Well, it's neck pickup (if there's a choice), tone wound down, OD on, probably at its mildest setting - just want a bit of grit. I dunno how "faithful" that is to the original, but at least it sounds like I paid some attention to it The OD in question is in my Joyo Monomyth, but any appropriately set OD will do the job I reckon. I like OD pedals that have a couple of degrees of severity available at the flick of a switch, punters don't want to see me fiddling with knobs for five minutes between each song. "This is a heavy one" - flick a switch, job done.
