  1. I'm only funning with you. It's an odd fish, isn't it? Not sure what to think about it. That 24 fret fingerboard has been kinda jammed in there and compressed everything towards the bridge. Lovely finish tho, I concur.
  2. You've just seen it? Do keep up, they've had it for months!
  3. They're all going to sound utter gash, because they were never meant to be listened to in isolation.
  4. Boo! That is all. (actually, that's not quite all - thanks for rocking up here and being open and transparent about stuff)
  5. They clearly never tested in our rehearsal room then...
  6. The fact that my USA G&Ls had absolutely no attempt at shielding did irk me somewhat - what am I paying for? Then I got over myself and got going with the slug tape. RE: LB-100 > L-1000 - too much like busywork to me for a frankenstein which won't look right - it'll look exactly like what it is - an LB-100 with a regular MFD jammed in there and too many pots. At least an LB-100 has a chance to mostly resemble an SB-1...
  7. I think I've said this before, but if G&L made a Tribute L-1000, I would have bought that over a USA one. Comparing the USA ones to the Tributes, yes, they are "better" as I define it, but they are not the same order of magnitude better as the price premium. I think that USA production will eventually price itself out of contention for all but the most ardent of gear snobs - because most folk will realise that they can get 80% of the quality for 20-25% of the cost. The quality of the basses I have picked up recently at the lower echelons of the price scale have blown me away with their fit/finish, features and all round solid, reliable construction. That you can get a G&L Tribute LB-100 for £300 - which in my estimation is THE Precision bass you never knew you needed - just blows my mind. The only thing I found that they skimped on was shielding. Oh, and a bit of swarf in the nut slots, if you want to be super picky (like it was removed with a fingernail, really the nittiest of nitpicking going on here).
  8. The street address of a police station, perhaps?
  9. Copper tape shielding is not a glamorous job but strangely satisfying and when done right can make your bass almost silent, even in the most death-trappy rehearsal rooms! Outlay - a few quid for the slug tape, perhaps some soldering and some of your precious time. Oh, and 100% learn to do your own setups. Your basses will end up playing better, the way you know you like them to and for no cost other than your time. If I can learn how to do setups, anyone can.
  10. Widnae dream o' it... We should probably let the OP crack on with colour choosing, in English...
  11. Gold. Sparklier the better. Black and gold (in whatever combination) is this season's must have look!
  12. Eh, it's a gig. First one in ages for the 'Spoons, 'cos sax player got a job offshore and trying to work around his shift patterns has been a challenge. I don't take any of these BOTB things seriously, we're too niche to win anyway. It's more a case of reminding the three people who maybe care that we still exist as a going concern...
  13. These days a new set of strings probably costs less than the gas or leccy required to boil the water...
  14. If all you're wanting to do is remove the bass so you can hear yourself during playalong - just play it through your laptop's speakers - they'll soon put paid to that pesky bass being played better by someone with infinitely more talent than you. Take that, Claypool!
  15. Someone's in a fiesty mood tonight! U ok hun, etc...
  16. G&L L-1000 5 string wideboy. To hell with "versatility" - simply give me a bass that just sounds great and doesn't need any added salt and pepper. While you're fiddling with pickup selection, blending and your 4 band EQ, I'm already at the first chorus
  17. The black pickup has been used on several other finishes - white, blue royale and silverburst I'm pretty sure. Your biggest problem is that not many people mod these basses beyond changing tuners and bridge - not a lot of Lo-Z alternatives out there and what with the pickup being specific to this bass, a funny size and it all adds up to too much hassle for most folk to countenance mucking around in there.
  18. Ublock Origin is available for Chrome too, and works just as well, so you don't need to change to Firefox to do this. Firefox fanboi axe grinding, detected...
