1. Pete Academy better keep an eye on the crowd at the next Nearly Dan gig, lest some beardy jazzer leaps on stage yelling 'You bastard you stole my venue'...
2. Didn't see him on this programme but caught him on Later. He clearly loves the music and is rich enough to indulge his whim and make an album. From what I've heard so far it doesn't sound particulalry credible though and I'd mark it down to end up in supermarket bargain bins pretty sharpish.
3. Thought the MSP's were the best thing on the show by a mile. Someone posted earlier that they were like a rough pub band. I'm clearly going to the wrong pubs. Not a big fan of theirs but I think their latest single is their best one for ages (though the big single off the 'tigers' album was good too). Genuine anthemic stadium rock stuff, should transfer to big arena gigs no problem. Ronson has the type of face you just want to throw a punch at involuntarily I'm afraid.
4. Usually followed or preceded with Alright Now
5. I always got the impression that JI, a little like Judie Tzuke over here, was somewhat underappreciated as a singer songwriter. I've had her 'best of' CD in my collection for years. Not in particulalry heavy rotation but I always enjoy it when I do play it.
6. Dave's post made me think of this...
7. I thought Rickenbacker were pretty hot on this kind of thing, if they try to sell them outside of China I'd imagine John Hall's minions will be on it like a shot.
8. Last night's pub gig was a bit weird as a lot of local muso's turned up so you tend to feel a bit of peer pressure. As it happened I was so exhausted from a late Sat night out that I was too knackered to feel much of anything at all. Still folks came up to us at the end of the gig to say how much they enjoyed it. Then the obligatory whinge from band leader that I should 'smile a lot and move around on stage'. This is a middle aged blues rock band playing pubs where my available space 'on stage' typically runs to about 3 square feet. If he wants a combination of grinning fool and performing monkey he can put an advert in 'circus weekly' or something ffs. Counting the days before I'm sacked at this rate. One very experienced local bass player was in to see us and at half time told me he liked the way I commanded my part of the stage and looked like I was supposed to be in a band whereas the other 3 looked like they'd wandered in off the street. Naturally I passed this on to our glorious band leader
9.
The art is in the doing of the thing and not in the thing that is done.
Ahh, that'll explain Yoko standing in the middle of the room wailing tunelessly then...
10. Surely it's the Ampeg SVT's that make this place great?
11. Mr hedgehog, did you come to a decision about this? I have a b'scotch jazz and this would make a nice partner for it, though ideally I'd like a more standard P. Would be a straight sale though, don't have any basses up for grabs in the £400 region at the moment.
12. Thanks for putting this up, I might give it a whirl later. I just about mastered Pump It Up a while ago but forgotten most of it now, another cracking Bruce Thomas line.
13.
Most of Cliff Williams' career has been spent following the root. Boring? Nah. Same goes for Alan Lancaster & a fair swedge of Roger Glover. The rest of the band can rock, but only we can make it roll. P.
Roger Glover mainly root notes? you're kidding right?
14. Buy an Ampeg?
15. Other information that might also give a prospective buyer a 'feel' of the item being sold is the context which the amp is being used. For instance if I'm in a 4 piece rock band that mainly plays pubs and I'm looking for a replacement combo and someone put something like 'I use this in a 4 piece rock band for pub gigs and I've never needed to have it above volume 3 to be heard' I'd have more confidence about buying it that just raw output specs alone. Not suggesting anectdotal evidence should replace specs but that kind of additional info (assuming accurate) could also help.

One bass only

I haven't seriously gigged with anything but the jazz in my avatar for the last couple of bands I've been in. The S1 switch gives it plenty of presence for the rockier numbers and I can squeeze other tones from it too, plus it has one of the nicest necks (for me) on any bass I've played. It doesn't have any pre amp or battery to go wrong and I've never broken a string in my life. I sometimes take a cheap Squier P bass special as a back up but it invariably just sits in the car unused.
17. Also worth checking out is his soundtrack to the movie Mike's Murder. Not conventioally poppy but some great tunes on it. Took me ages to find it but then I got a copy of a 3 disk compilation of JJ and the third disk had the whole soundtrack on it!
18. Not wishing to sound picky but isn't that a replacement bridge? Hipshot maybe?
19. If you think the new singer really has potential you could investigate starting a band with her and hire new guys around that project then you get to play the stuff you want. You say there aren't many band opportunities in your area but this might mean there are actually a lot of potential musicians waiting to be auditioned!

The Fog

The band I am still settling in with are doing a few in Sep so come on down and have a laugh if you are near any of these venues: 04/09/10 Royal Oak 29 Palmerston Street, Westwood. Notts, NG16 5HY 10/09/10 The Fox & Crown 4 Appletongate, Newark, Nottinghamshire, NG24 1JY (part of Newark Blues Festival) 12/09/10 Air Hostess Stanstead Avenue, Tollerton, Notts, NG12 4EA 26/09/10 Melbourne Hotel 2 Derby Road, Melbourne, Derby, DE73 8FE Times vary so check venue in advance, I recall in particular the Air Hostess always have bands on very early, usually 5:30 or so. If the venue says 'Misfits' on a board instead of The Fog don't worry it's still the same band, some venues haven't caught up with the name change yet. 21. After an astonshingly awful (but very short) 'rehearsal' (I use the term loosely) last Thursday my latest employers finally got back to gigging after a 6 week hiatus last Sat, standard pub gig. Amazingly we probably put in one of our best performances since I've been with the band. Shame there weren't more folks around but with it being bank holiday I think a lot of people were away for the weekend. Still, them that were there seemed to enjoy it. Then I did a whole afternoon's filling in at a jam session the next day. More gigs in the coming month so we will hopefully get some fresh material worked up in sound checks. Or I'll get sacked, I can never quite tell with my current lot!
22. These aren't the Chris Squier Ltd edition models though, they are different again! The 'proper' CS ones have signed scratchplate and the TRC goes the other way, these are more like the C64's.
23. Just a typo in the description, the heading actually says 1972 which it could be, photos don't really help. A proper scammer probably wouldn't do a cash on collection either.
24. I scaled down my rig so I think it's time for the 4x10 to go. It's the old style black vinyl 'sharkskin' effect covering. One of the drivers has been replaced, other three are all original TE units. Limit 200W @ 8ohms (4 X 50W drivers), However I was using it in rehearsals with a Behringer 450H and it was fine. I'll sort some pics out at the weekend if there is interest in this, looking for around £150. Would have to be pick up or meet reasonably close to Nottm, too heavy to realistically post.
25. I'd like some pics too. I tried an Epi a long time ago and thought it was a bit of a stretch too (short arsed bloke) but may be worth a punt.
