Sorry to pick one of the big hits but Message In A Bottle is a modern classic bassline for me. Always had a soft spot for SynchronicityII where he just drives it along allowing Summers to do the more finicky stuff.

Last band I was in was usually a midweek, previous one to that was always Saturday morning (unless we had a gig). The current one never seem to rehearse as a full unit, everyone too busy with other bands and stuff. However, we haven't gigged for nearly 6 weeks and have 5 coming up close together from this Sat so amazingly we are actually getting together tonight. Now I've just found out one of the band is bringing in a singer with them so we'll get naff all done expect!

E.L.O - Eldorado. Now this really is a criminally overlooked album. Made before they made it mega big, think it's a lost classic personally.

I'd definitely go see BCC if they played reasonably close to me when they finally tour. Probably catch Glenn's solo tour next month.

I think Peavey used to put maximum power output at 2ohms bridged or something on their gear and it always sounded more impressive than it really was.

First heard DP in Tull then worked my way back to his FC stuff. Saw his son play with Tull once also and with Francis Dunnery, Pegg jnr seemed a decent player too.

Bought a jetglo 4003 in 2002 which was barely used (serial number is from 2000, home recording use only according to seller) without trying it first and fortunately it turned out very playable with a decent set up. First thing I did was remove the pick up cover and last year I had a push-pull retro pot fitted so it's the same as a current model. It's had reasonable use since but in the last 5 yrs or so the sound hasn't suited the bands I've been in so it's not my main gigging bass. One noticable thing is if I take it to an open jam session *everyone* wants to play it, they still have that allure. One guy I loaned it to for a set was practically in tears, he'd always, always wanted to play one and had never had the opportunity and I'd just made his dream come true. There's no way on earth I'd pay what they are going for at the moment though.

Yep, just move on. The band I recently joined was like that. They gave me the impression that their current bass player (who had been with them some time) was voluntarily leaving due to personal reasons. So I went to see them at a gig to get a feel of the band and it was obvious the bass player didn't even know he was on his way out at that stage! When it's my turn I fully expect that they will tell me the band is folding, get someone else in and carry on again. For adults, most musicians can be a ridiculosly childish and spineless lot.

One of those chosen on Friday was Moondance and the presenter spent ages after playing it extolling it's virtues, I immediately thought of you ranting at the radio of course

Agree with you Rich, there are plenty of players in genres I don't really listen much to or have styles that isn't to my personal taste but that's a long long way from 'awful'. In truth there are probably very few genuinely bad players that have got well known enough to merit mention or who stayed long enough as professionals to produce enought material to actually discuss rationally. Now that Flea fellow...nah, just joking. They're all light years ahead of anything I'll ever do (except Sid V I guess).

Just to echo the thoughts of many before. I have been busy over the weekend and this morning was the first time I'd really got to look at the site fpr a couple of days. This is terrible news. I only met Simon once at one of the Northampton bassbashes though I've exchanged Pm's and recently had a pedal off him, always seemed a thouroughly straight and helpful guy. My sincere condolences to his family.

Ah, but he's using a pick so will get an automatic thumbs down from all the 'proper' bassists on here...
