In line footpedal tuner usually will have a good mute. When gigging regularly I used to have a cheap Samson wireless so I'd just unplug the sender unit after muting, swap instruments, pop the unit back in and undo the mute. I'd iron out variabilities in signals at the instrument end in the sound check just by adjusting volume knobs at the instrument end then leave it all alone.

I'd expect it to be carved from unicorn horn at the very least for those prices...and a free mermaid skin gig bag.

I had a Nordstrand PU & John East pre fitted to my 79 ray as the original parts had been replaced by 2001 EB parts, which I then sold on. There is a slight difference but not massive, as we tested it against a modern ray at the recent Nottm bash (Simon1964 can back me up on this). So don't expect miracles if you start swapping out PU & pre's, at the end of the day it is a ray. If you want it to sound like a jazz, buy a jazz. I go hot and cold with it and usually it trails in 3rd after my jazz and ric as preferred weapon of choice. It does cut through though when I use it for occasional jams. Play it through the passive input usually.

The original might have been from Newell but I think the one in that photo might be the copy that Chris had made, maybe the original was getting a bit past it.

There's another one here, not quite as cheap as the last one I posted (which apparently went for £120 - bargain or what?) but for a Pistols trib it'd do the job; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-SQUIER-BASS-P...A1%7C240%3A1318 -
Chris Slade has played with loads of artists, sometimes he's done tours for some bands without necessarily appearing on the original albums. He's toured with ACDC, Dave Gilmour & Asia as well as those already mentioned.

I've seen some of these players at bassbash gatherings and was astounded by the standard. I immediately downrated my playing from 'slightly amateurish fumblings' to 'go back and start again' immediately. Having said that I don't think it means squat as I've never seen any of them play in a band context which (for me) is all that really counts for bass - it's a band instrument and no amount of soloing at any level has yet convinced me otherwise.
Ahhh, love that stuff. Especially when the late great Tommy Bolin was on guitar.
This reminds me of way back in the days of usenet when I contributed to alt.music.deep_purple and people would rave on about Bolin and that you really needed to get as copy of Spectrum to hear what he was about. So I did. Still couldn't work out what the fuss was about I'm afraid. Half decent blues player when not drugged to the eyeballs but for jazz-rock fusion type stuff I'd still go for Beck or even Moore any day. Each to their own and all that though...

My last band used to rehearse at the seven stars as well, never seemed to be anyone in. That outbuilding is a miserable place in the winter. Upstairs was a bit better but meant lugging gear up the rickety fire escape. Used the White Rooms about 4 or 5 yrs ago and they were awful, damp and rubbish gear. Might have improved. The one round the corner from White Rooms was better but can't recall the name. At least you had decent gear for about £10 per hour so you wouldn't need to take your own and avoids the storage problem.

Nope, I mean 'Blindman' on Ready an Willing, it's also on either Whitesnake or Northwinds, can't remember which. Any way as far as I can tell the main verse seems to be based around F# and E going back and forth, then goes through a run of F#-G#-A to get to the chorus and then the chorus is mainly A-B-F#. Will update if I have time to listen more thoroughly.

There's a Squier here that would probably do the job if it's going to be a one off tour with a bass you're possibly chucking about in a punky sort of way; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Squier-Precis...A1%7C240%3A1318 -
Even worse it was actually recorded twice, first on one of Coverdale's pre-WS solo albums and then later on the proper WS Ready An Willing album. The arrangements are pretty similar though. If I get chance to have a jam to it later when I get home I will.

Fortunately none of me either (one of the least photogenic people on the planet) unless you count the miniscule bit of me appearing over tauzero's left shoulder in one of the group shots. Mind you even that bit could probably frighten horses and small children so best not look...That's definitely my bass LWTAIT's playing (more skilfully than I can) in above pic though.

Amazingly, considering it was a small meeting, there were TWO jetglo ric 4003's. Mine was the one with the PU cover removed, the one with PU cover still in place was GazM's. Mine just seemed to do the rounds a bit more. I had a quick go on Gaz's and they are pretty much indistinguishable but I realised why I had the PU cover off mine within a week of buying it!

Sorry if I was inadvertently responsible for causing ric-gas, was nice to see her being passed around like the ten bob whore she truly is at heart Anyone who missed out can catch up with her tomorrow at the afternoon jam at the Greyhound in Beeston for a turn...Oh and Simon I couldn't get Tube Station out of my head so I've just learned it at home! Well done BB for organising it. Right ratio of basses to bass rigs, meant that it didn't get overblown with too many playing at once, which I thought the last N'hampton full bash suffered from.

Bugger, I was only going to turn up to chat up mrs T anyway  Actually, seriously I've had some work done on the car and don't know if it'll be ready in time. If it is I'll still try to pop in for an hour or two...

One of the first proper rock bands I ever saw, supporting Gillan in 1981. Feeling quite ancient now...

Lee Pomeroy (It Bites, Take That) is a lefty playing a lefty bass but with the strings the wrong way round. I'm assuming he probably first started playing a righty bass upside down but didn't restring so when he's eventually moved onto a proper lefty bass he's kept the odd stringing pattern. There are some photos on the IB website; http://www.itbites.com/

There is a dedicated forum for effects, might be more people able to help on there. Maybe this thread could be moved there by an admin?

Wonder if anyone has tried buying a load of them in, sticking Fender lookalike necks on and passing them off as the real deal yet? Intertesting to keep an eye out for cheap jazzes on ebay over the next few months!

Playing music you dislike, case S. Wonder
KevB replied to nobodysprefect's topic in General Discussion
I never used have a big deal playing MS either but that was in a band that gigged only occasuionally, maybe if I was playing it every weekend it might get tedious. But it's one of those that is so simple it gives you a chance to be imaginitive without giving in to mindless w***ery, no different from a regular 12 bar blues really. -

I'd rather play Summer of 69 than Sweet Home Alabama any day ^_^ -
Hendrix's were like shovels as well by all acounts, I'm sure it helps...
