2.
Skips in Prawn Cocktailness
Oh yeah, they're great too... Skips > Quavers
 3.
I find the prawn cocktail quavers the nicest.
Same here, which is odd, coz I don't like any other prawn cocktail crisps! Maybe it's just an insecure reaction against pink packaging
 4.
For F*$k's sake lighten up
Same to you?? Please correct the spelling in the title? It's driving me insane now (I'm autistic) EDIT: possibly change it to "Prawn Cocktail"?
 5. "Thus bad Musick pleases Rusticks who have never heard any better, and the finest Ear is not offended with the tuning of Instruments if it be not too tedious, where no Harmony is expected; and yet much smaller Dissonancy shall offend amidst the Performance, where Harmony is expected" - Francis Hutcheson
 6.
I don't think anyone has suggested that practicing more will make you a worse player, or that complicated/fast techniques will detract from your abilities. That's obviously ludicrous.
Not read the whole thread then?
I actually think that technical ability may hinder creativity. The majority of my favourite musicians are self taught or have little in the way of classical education. Maybe there's a certain magic created by trying to do a lot with the little that you've got? Maybe if you can't impress with technical ability, then you need to think of something else?
7.
I wouldn't wear anything that had a big bass clef
I would! White on a black hoodie anyway How about some bass socks??? I never have enough of them
 8. I want to know who won..!
 9.
1) You questioned Janeks practice regime of 10 hours on a particular thing. He has been on here and told us that it it true so that should be that one done and dusted
Hmm... this suggests to me that he doesn't do that EVERY day...
Sometimes the answers to these questions aren't particularly positive so I might just leave the bass hanging on the wall and go to the park, eat some sushi or whatever until I'm in a place where I think I can do good work. So trying not to force the issue plays a big part in progressing and developing as a player.
So perhaps the original comment in the article was a little misleading, which was part of the point of the OP?
 10. That's how a guitarist told me he does it (except it's much harder to do that with your thumb whilst holding a pick - being a bassist is great!)
 11.
pinch harmonics - you use the right hand only, typically the string is plucked with the thumb while the harmonic is made with the first finger - don't know how Billy does it
I do it the other way around - touch the string with the tip of my thumb at the right spot and just play normally!
 12.
I'm just annoyed that we've lost Janek Gwizdala through a combination of his not being able to handle legitimate criticism and the huge amount of rubbish in this thread that he's had to put up with.
That'd be a fair comment if not for the fact that most of his posts on basschat have been on this thread! Nothing against him (very nice of him to take the time to write), but what precisely have we lost..?
 13. I shall be along too - I really like the stuff on your myspazz, Kev!
 14. Crosstown Traffic?
 15.
I find a long bath and a glass of wine helps. I then use some scented massage oil and music to set the mood. Remember to use plenty of lube, but make sure its water not oil based. Let us all know how you get on.
Any chance of an instructional video?
 16. When I go away, I take my acoustic bass with me!
 17.
And where´s the arrow going from bassists to guitarists?
And since when do instrumentalists not all look down on singers?!
 18. I don't seriously believe that any technically capable musician who can't write inspiring music would be any more creative without the technical ability! Creativity is something you either have or don't have - technical ability is a useful set of tools that allow you to express yourself on bass better; unless there's nothing in your head worth expressing in the first place, improving your ability to play can't actually make you WORSE at writing music However, since a great many players are somewhat lacking in technical ability (nobody's perfect), we can perversely admire those who have the chops we can only aspire to... there's lots of great music that IS technically very difficult, and if you can write that kind of music in your head, what good is it if you can't play it? Sorry if I've not expressed myself too clearly (maybe I need to practise my writing skills) - what I'm trying to say is that there has to be a balance between creativity and technical ability - one is useless without the other! Except that, as has been noted, technically adept players can show off to a small audience of musos, whereas brilliant composers who can't get their ideas from their head to the instrument are completely useless
 19. +1 Playing faster, more complicated technical stuff loosens up my fingers and makes it that much easier to play the simple, cool-sounding grooves that people actually want to listen to...
 20. That's awesome, but I think I prefer Noise Patrol
 21.
Lets try for an altogether better and definitly more musical application of the technique: Adam Nitti I mean, I agree with the point that this technique is largely useless outside of solo playing (read: showing off ) Si
Whilst that solo is, overall, lovely, I think the sweeping is the lowpoint and lets it down a bit
 22. Same place I get everything: 911tabs.com (the Ultimate Guitar Archive links are the best, but there are often alternatives and the search function on 911tabs is better)
 23.
having had a look (as I am looking for 6string stuff too) Necrophagist seems to be tuned down a step which is a pain in the arse (I am already playing around in standard and down 1/2)
Download a guitar pro tab and adjust the tuning! That way you can slow it down too... I actually managed to find one (for Only Ash Remains) which is apparently flawless
 24.
necrophagist can be done on a 5 haha, learn some beethoven stuff good fun tapping ;p
I know - I was horrified to realise that he doesn't use the top C in Only Ash Remains! He certainly uses all the strings in some songs, though
I'm slightly scared by that music
Watch this and it'll scare you no more: http://youtube.com/watch?v=TeSz0sYoYds
 25. If you fancy a challenge, try Necrophagist!
