They love jazz funk and slap bass really - it's not so much about laughing at yourself but laughing about other people's exaggerated perception of yourself... the joke's on those who think the music really is that dull I love Gary Numan too!

I've got a gig on Tuesday with my new band (The Croft in Bristol if anyone's interested) so I'm frantically rehearsing the bass lines I only wrote today and I'm also auditioning for [url="http://myspace.com/symbiosis666"]these guys[/url] on Wednesday so I'm learning those songs too!

I'm sure I can learn any skills I want to without paying someone else to teach me, but how can I learn how to pass this on to others?

I'm quite satisfied with my '87 but I'd like to de-fret her and also make her active... would I regret these mods? And where could I get a hard case to fit her??

Well, one approach (although by no means THE approach - there are plenty of other ways to write bass lines but I think this is a fairly good one to have under your belt) is to start with an idea (if you've got a song with lyrics written, brilliant - otherwise just think up some random concept you want to write a song about) and think about the sounds which characterise that idea - play a particular run or a scale or a chord and think about the feelings it invokes... once you know what musical components fit together, you should be able to put together a complete song without thinking about it - I should imagine that's how classical composers write vast symphonies without being able to hear what it sounds like As for needing to write stuff for a band, that's not always the case... whilst it's a good thing to write your own bass lines, a lot of musicians (guitarists) would rather you did exactly what they told you and if you spend plenty of time practising learning other people's stuff, you shouldn't have a problem doing that! I certainly appreciate it when guitarists can play my orchestrations exactly the way I want them to... that's not to say I don't value their input though, so it does seem that having some ideas of your own is at least a bonus

I thiiink Billy Fuller would have been playing bass for him at that time? I looked for some pics but couldn't find any... so no idea what he was playing, sorry EDIT: Evidently I was hugely wrong Glad someone else got in there before I had a chance to mislead anyone That certainly is quite a cool looking bass!
