Anyone interrested in a basschat bass competition?
queenofthedepths replied to Oscar South's topic in General Discussion
I say I've posted two cd's of solo material - songs with no instruments other than one bass - here in the past, and found that bass players are no more interested in solo bass than guitar players are.
That's purely inductive reasoning... I enjoy a few solo bassists - what you should have said is that not many bassists on basschat have said they like the solo bass music you've posted on here
I'd lose.. but I'd enter just for the humour factor..
+1! -
Just thought of one... How many I help you by Sikth.... absolute madness... Actually.. anything by Sikth or Primus!!!!!
I was listening to SikTh as I read that, and now I'm determined to give Scent of the Obscene another shot! I reckon learning it on bass has got to be easier than finding the other musicians to cover it! Mine is Only Ash Remains by Necrophagist

Complete Beginner looking for same
queenofthedepths replied to frances_shoal's topic in Musicians Wanted
Damn, got my hopes up for a second... why are there no beginner bassists in Bristol?? Good luck with your search, John! +1 on Tony's advice -
I really enjoyed that - playing any gigs this summer?
My issue with trying new strings is that I hate the sound of all strings for the first few months. Because of this, the three basses that I own all have their original strings on them. The only thing that would make me change would be breaking a string. I might start a second hand string donation thread.
+1 I love the old string sound - in over 3 years of playing, I have never once bought a new set of strings, although I suppose for a couple of my basses I could do with taking the OPs advice, just coz I don't like the strings rather than coz they're worn out

would any of you use a tutor who doesn't even own a bass?
queenofthedepths replied to Inca's topic in General Discussion
In my looooooooooooooooong hunt for a bass tutor i went for a lesson a week ago, tutor takes me through to the room we shall be playing in with only 2 small guitar amps and his 2 cheap (unnamed) guitars and proceeds to try to tutor me bass whilst using his guitar. he knows no modern music, gave me nothing to have acheived by the next lesson and lifted £20 off me Gave me a sob story (i am a sucker) so i rebook a next lesson!! but i have nothing to learn for it, he covered all stuff i already know and all we basically did was i played a bassline (song of his choice) whilst he played guitar and sang over it (felt exactly like a pub jam but without the beer and fun) ok everyone what i want to know - is this the best tutor i am going to find? i have been turned down over the phone by 2 other tutors for being a girl and for being too old (27!!!) apparently my small girls hands will mean its too hard to teach me Help - should i get rid of this tutor and carry on looking or keep forking out £20 a pop?
That's absolutely terrible - if I were you I'd cancel the next lesson because it's a huge waste of your money... I can't believe you're being turned down for those other reasons; sounds plain unprofessional to me - I'm sure you can find a tutor with a better attitude here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=26 Failing that, I think you're better off learning by yourself rather than wasting money or better still, find someone else to jam with! -

Hi Sarah! Welcome to basschat
OLP Traben TB4 4 String - Red with mirrored flame scratchplate
It's an OLP at the same time as being a Traben? Not seen them before! As long as it has the lovely shiny flames though, that's awesome!
£100? Buy a B2.1U!!!!!
+Whatevernumberitisnow - multi-effects are perfect for a first pedal and these are lots of fun! -
I love my Laney combos!

IMO, the fact that you're considering it suggests that you should - you don't seem satisfied with what you have now and you've figured out what you'll sell to make it happen; sounds to me like you want to go for it but just need convincing

Bad Habits for Bass - video series
queenofthedepths replied to Davemarks's topic in Theory and Technique
Look good to me Dave. When I first clicked the link I was expecting to come back and say 'What is bad in a textbook sense might be a perfectly good way to play the bass' or something like that - but I see a lot of the advice there is about making yourself comfortable and not a preachy 'do it like this, everything else is wrong' approach. Cheers ped
+1 Very helpful videos - thanks for them I love your sign-off catchphrase: "It's a bad habit, don't do it, and don't teach it to other people; spread the word - see you next time" -
I bought a combo from Peter - it arrived quickly, no hassle etc etc - lovely guy to deal with!

With the greatest respect of course.
Hmm, mine's 21cm and 15cm (I just had to know) so I don't think it's that weird!

Well, neither of my parents are musicians for a start! And I'm not a work of art - I have a practical function - to produce works of art!
Just wondering...did the word Indie come from Independent, as in the record label/companies???
It certainly came from there, before it came to be associated with a not-very-specific style of music - disgracefully lazy music journalism... as always
But the boundaries between making children and making music are ever so cloudy.
They are?

Iii think they should do away with child benefit (an incentive to over-populate the world!) and invest the money in the arts i.e. support live music venues by not taxing ticket sales and stuff... give me a chance to get paid for some gigs, in other words! More money for bassists all round!
