I must be the only one who loves the sound of both pickups on full on a PJ bass! Fat, crisp, best of both worlds!
I'm with you there. My PJ controls are vol, tone and pup selector switch, so its full on P, full on J or full on both and nothing in between. Wasn't sure about that at first - but that was couple years ago and now I cant do without
We have one of these, it was our youngest's first bass. At the time (quite a few years ago, now...) it was the least expensive new active fiver I could find. Despite this , it has turned out to be an excellent player (although slightly heavy for my old shoulders; I'm more used to my Verithin..!). The 'stock' p/ups are excellent, the pre-amp does the job well; no complaints whatsoever. An anecdote..? OK, then. Maceo Parker was billed to play at the local festival in which I was involved (3 Elephants; look it up...). We got a call the day before from their manager, asking if we could provide an active five-string. He explained that the bassist (Rodney 'Skeet' Curtis...) had had his Lakland fail on him in Scandinavia, and had no spare. I offered our humble Cort when they arrived; he strung it up with his own strings and used it for the show. By coincidence, the same configuration (1 x MM, 1 x J p/ups...) as his Lakland. No-one noticed the drop in quality, which only goes to prove that it really is 'all in the fingers'. He was complimentary about the bass, and gracious enough to sign the back afterwards, but that's worn off since. Still, we now know that if it doesn't sound right, it's us, not the bass..! Brilliant value for money, but ours was less than £250 new; much less. Hope this helps.
What a fabulous anecdote. Love it Cheers Geoff

Indeed. Early Trace Elliot heads into 20kg cabs loaded with Kappalites is the only way. You will all be thanking me for this sage advice one day. Cheers Geoff
Well I've just ordered 2 BVT4500H heads from Thomann! The amp in my Ampeg BA500 combo (which runs down to 2ohms with a 4ohm extension cab) died on me at a gig a couple of weeks ago. As I plan to use the combo cab (i.e. with the amp section removed) and the extension cab I already have, I needed an amp that could also run down to 2ohms. Unfortunately, the Ampeg b5r head I then bought off here was killed in transit by myHermes so I had to look for an alternative within my very limited budget, remembered this thread and though - why not? I now plan to run these 2 heads together by connecting the preamp out on one to the power amp in on the other andThen running one cab off each head.
Blimey, two of the buggers, eh? Should be an interesting setup. Let us know how it pans out. Cheers Geoff
I had the CB 1024 not seen any photos that show it up as nice as it is in the flesh. More of a honey burst with nice grain showing through
Yeah ive found the same with my CB 1024, in the flesh a stunner. And yes, I think the honey burst idea is quite close. I think the grain pattern on mine is gorgeous.
I have been cutting everything under 100hz for the last year or so and its made such an improvement to my live sound. The whole band sounds better, I never have boom issues, I get more volume out of my rig, there's a clearer balance between all the notes on all the strings and the clarity is unreal.
Ditto this. Sloping the Trace GP12 graphic down from 100hz, with the 30hz slider pretty much at full minus setting. The heat sink on my AH200 is noticeably cooler with less current being sucked through the output transistors. -
I have the exact same amp. Loud, solid, reliable, simple to use and easy to get a range of tones. The EQ balance knob can do most of the work if you want. Not a lightweight, but I wouldn't call it heavyweight either. So, why on earth is this still here especially at this cracking price? Type of bump.

Are there any things about the Jazz you like or don't like? How about the neck profile, for instance? A Jazz has one of the narrower and slimmer (front to back) profiles around. Ibanez SR are slimmer, the Yamaha BB mentioned is thicker and fractionally wider. Best thing is to try as many as you can in a shop. Cheers Geoff
