1.
And also get out and listen to a few bands, when you hear a tone you like investigate said bassists amp - what you hear in a band context gives a great idea of whether it`s right or wrong for you.
Definitely this too.
2. I had a Vintage Jaco fretless - fabulous instrument with a delightful neck. I've also had a couple of their V4 P copies and both were on the button build-wise. The Wilkinson hardware is quality.
3.
Ta folks. Prefer to buy amps new. Amps are probably the only bit of bass gear (as well as strings) that I insist on owning from new.
In which case get yerself to a few shops and try some different gear out, based on the suggestions above, but also try different things too - just in case.
4.
sorry guys, the amp has already been sold
Any chance you could mark the thread subject as 'SOLD'? Saves us from keeping looking and drooling and wondering whether we could afford it...
5.
I have the Bass White Pages. Very thick, loads of bass tabs. It's very good. http://www.amazon.co...n/dp/0634033263
I've never seen that before. I like the idea of TAB and notation together (I'm trying to move away from TAB slowly).
6. Ped - is your new profile pic a subtle hint to us mere mortals?
7.
BC's dysfunctional kids are unusual in that most of them are middle-aged.
Aye and I fall firmly in that category.
8. I love the comparison of the BC community to dysfunctional kids.
9. Don't overlook any of the Trace 15" combos. Even the 130w GP7SM combos are very loud, and have great tone shaping. And they are built to last. Cheers Geoff
10. I just wish I could have afforded to spend £1.5k on a bass when I was a student. Mind you, I'd hazard a guess a lot more than that was spent on beer during my 'studies'.
11.
Can I laugh at this or is it racist, or speaking ill of the dead, or something?
It's all of the above. Bloody hilarious though, either way
12. By using pre, the sound engineer can't replicate any effects that you might have in the effects loop (assuming 'post' is post effects loop). So although you might hear your effects on stage through your own amp/cab monitoring, they won't out front. Obviously if you are using effects very early on on the signal chain then this is moot.
13. Should I 'Report' this thread for the objectionable mis-use of the word 'weather' in the opening post? Or is it a seasonal thing? Coat got, once again.... Cheers Geoff
14. Well after a delightfully windswept and rainy drive, I dropped a Barefaced S12 off to Justin. Jolly good chap to deal with - quick and friendly communications. Enjoy! Cheers Geoff
15. Welcome aboard. My only advice is not to go near the Market Place on here, it will bankrupt you Mind you, it's fun on the way.... Cheers Geoff
16. The LB30 is def all valve and the CTM30 is the same thing in a different box.
17. Thanks TraceAmp. Naughty Ashdown - their site advertises the CTM15 as 'all tube', with an 'ECC83 driven preamp' and 'Dual EL84 power tubes'. Quite misleading of them, considering their reply to you.
18.
I'd expect some sort of SS stuff to drive the meter, but there just aren't enough preamp valves in there for a push-pull amp with a tone stack if it's going to have enough gain. Having said that, well designed SS stages aren't necessarily a deal-breaker. It could be single ended (i.e. no phase inverter needed), but then the 15 watt rating would be rather fanciful. I wonder if the unused valve space on the board is there because it shares a board with one of the Hayden guitar amps and they just populate them differently for the two models? Certainly the tick boxes at the top of the picture would suggest this, since I think they have one built in the same size chassis.
Very good point about the Hayden connection, well spotted Sir. They have a 'Mofo' range - and that word can be clearly seen on the tickbox at the top of the picture. EDIT: And having had a quick Google, the Hayden Mofo 15W clearly shows another valve between the two EL84s, which would explain the spare location in the pictures above. Also, the Mofo 15 can be switched to 2W mode - perhaps this additional valve does this, taking the EL84s out of circuit.
19. Hi Is this actually for sale on here, or not? If it is, any pictures? EDIT: £1.00 suits me, how much is postage? Cheers Geoff
20. I borrowed a pair of these for a flight recently, they are brilliant. Seriously. Good price for a new set too.
21. If I could learn to play guitar at the same time as playing bass, I could get rid of our guitarist and double my money per gig. On the other hand......
22. And there are at least four transistors in there, around the input stage area, near those ICs. Intriguing. Must find me a schematic....
23.
Looks as though there is no option here according to the TH500 manual. Post eq; Gain and master sent to DI output meaning that it will affect the front.
Oh dear, that's a design fail in my book. Why post-master? It is unnecessary and limiting in the real world. Shame really, because the TH500 is a highly regarded amp sound wise. EDIT: I see the pre setting is also pre gain - which is also bonkers. IMO, of course. And Everyone's Mileage Does Vary etc.
